I bought 5 of these drives with a Thermaltake dual drive docking station and Dynex eSATA PCI card to run as backup devices on Server 2008. After 2 weeks of use, I can only say that everything is working quite well. It's nice to eject a drive in Windows, pop it out of the dock and plug the next one it. I picked the Black (no spin down) over the Green (spin down after 10 min of idle) because the start times on the greens are too long. All in all, it turned into a nice little backup solution.

    BEST HARD DRIVE!

I purchased this hard drive and replaced old Hitachi 750 GB hard drive with 16 MB cache. Western Digital confused that retail box say 32 MB cache, when I open box, I read hard drive label that label say 64 MB cache. WD 2 TB hard drive (64 NB cache) is very faster than old Hitachi 750 GB hard drive (16 MB cache)! I tested WD 2 TB hard drive write at 100 MB/s and Hitachi 750 GB hard drive write at 60 MB/s.

I have to type stuff, so let me tell you my hard drive story: I decided that hard drives were cheap enough that I should RAID 1 my boot drive. Because this is my gaming system, I bought the fast drive instead of the quiet drive. I got home and found out that the single new hard drive I bought was 6 Mbps compared to my old drive's 3Mbps. I figured it wouldn't work, but I tried to build the RAID 1 anyway (after backing up my data to a different computer). It worked for 3 days and then the RAID desyncronized and wouldn't resync. Not the drive's fault. I went out and bought another and will install it as soon as I have 8 hours of spare time to rebuild the array.

I installed this drive in the second slot of my Netgear Stora to mirror the primary back-up drive (Seagate 1 TB) that came inside the Netgear Stora. No problems. I purchased the 2 TB to be ready when I upgrade the primary to a 2 TB drive.

    Great drive

I used this in my late 2009 Imac 27". It was no easy task to open up the imac but once I did I had no problem installing this drive. Examining the power consumption of the OEM Seagate drive I noticed this drive actually consumes slightly less power, a plus given the imac's tight enclosure. I did have to download and pay seperately for software to control the fan speed as this HDD does not have a built in temp sensor that the Imac can use. However, overall this was still a great bargain compared to having it serviced at a Mac store and better yet the HDD was 20% cheaper in store then online at another e-retailer.

Great drive as is typical of WD Black drives. Also typical is that the price is a little high. Price is good for the drive but not great.

This drive seems to be a very fast, responsive drive, but I've only had it a short time, so it remains to be seen how long-lasting it is.

I bought the first of these about six months ago.Thye hard drive worked great up until yesterday. Yesterday I bought a second drive and the first one has stopped working. No noises no loss in performance the drive is just dead. I have tried three different data cables and four different power connectors and adaptors and the drive will not show up in the bios or in disk management. I am not happy. I most definitely will NOT be buying another of these.
