Bad NAS, can store fine, but cannot stream at all!
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to store pictures or files then this is the drive for you. But you cannot stream Plex at all on it. I tried using the App in WD NAS and it freezes and buffers after 4 minutes. I tried to use plex on my server and just streamed the movies from the NAS as storage only, and the same thing! When I put all the movies on my PC Hard Drive, and install Plex it runs great!! And the PC is upstairs on a USB wifi adapter. The NAS was plugged directly into my 1GB Switch, and the TV I was trying to stream from was 10 feet away from a 5GHz Wifi...so the drive just can't process fast enough. Very upset and don't even need this thing. I can store crap on my USB I don't need a $300 unit that can't even stream.

Junk Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Drive failed after 6 months. Replacement drive dead on arrival. 2nd replacement had one of two hard drives fail after 2 days. 3rd replacement on the way. Told getting my money back wasn't an option. Lesson learned: Don't buy WD!

didn't set up properly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set it up via instructions from WD, nas just looped the registration and wouldn't let me access the drive. Returned it to store, not worth the headache for the price.

Not user friendly and bad customer service.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking forward to getting a NAS drive for a very long time and after a lot of research I bought the WD EX2 when it went on sale. Although, I am very tech savvy the initial EX2 Cloud setup was frustrating, so I called customer service hoping they could assist me in setting up the product, but the person on the phone was rude and wanted to remote in too my computer instead of helping understand the setup process. I have sent a compliant to WD about my experience and I have returned the product back to Bestbuy.

Read this review carefully
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an external drive that was full so I bought this one so that I can back up more data and have access on it through the app. First, its not as plug and play as they say. If you want more control over this you're going to need to call Tech support (who is very helpful btw) to help you set it up. Now to the problems. I made 3 phone calls to tech support. The drive continues to disconnect itself from the network. Also if you try to send files over the network, it will take an eternity. For example 5 gigs takes 30 min. Thats just lame! If you plug in an external drive to the my cloud and transfer directly then its fast but thats pointless. I want to be able to access and deliver files through the network. The app works great, but getting your data on the my cloud is a pain especially since it keeps disconnecting from the network. Overall, don't waste your money. Its not what you're looking for. I think if your a IT "pro" then maybe you can configure this to work the way you want it to work. But its def. not for the average user.

Problems Began Day One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The WD MyCloud EX Ultra is the easiest NAS drive I've setup and the options for accessing it are numerous. The downfall for me is that an hour after setting up the drive I got a critical notification from the unit stating the drive one volume had been degraded. After reading through a few forums regarding the drive I was able to determine that I needed to run a rebuild on it. It seemed to be running OK so I then began moving files to the drive but the more files I moved the slower they transferred. Now three days after the initial setup there was another critical notification that the fan was not working. With three issues happening in three days the drive is being returned tomorrow.
