You need this to actually watch any 4K content. It comes with movies preloaded and space for more. Two are free that you have to activate via the MGO app. You must always have an Internet connection to use this device. That is the only bummer.

Purchased a new Samsung SUHD 4K TV that came with $100 credit for MGO movies. Unfortunately in order to watch 4K MGO movies smoothly some of the content has to be buffered to a fast local hard drive that's also licensed for this online service. There are only 2 drives that support this service. This Western Digital is the more affordable one of the two and does the job just fine. Watching 4K with HDR on an SUHD TV is awesome, you can definitely tell the difference between regular 4K and HDR 4K.

Just by buying this drive, you will not get a free movie, which is a shame. Yes 4K movies are around $30, but a similar non-cinema drive is cheap these days. However, if you do have one of the high-end TV sets, you will get 2 free movies. In my case, I was not given the choice which ones, so that was a major letdown. In case you didn't know. the drive comes preloaded with a series of movies, you can then unlock them through your M-GO account (which you need to set up on your computer). You can of course remove the ones you do not like, and purchase new ones to be downloaded to the drive itself for watching them later. If you like 4K, and don't have a super fast internet connection, this really is the way to go !

It was a free item with the purchase of the Samsung tv the instructions are bad, you have to register with Mgo to download the 2 free 4k movies. Not the greatest movies but what do you expect for free. 4k movies to purchase are like $30 . The hard drive you can have about 10 4k movies on it at one time. Would I have purchased this most likely not.

Very good responsive drive for playing uhd files. Holds a pretty good number of them. Comes with about 8 of them downloaded, but they are locked and need to be purchased from m-go for $29.99 to view them. It just saves the time of the download, if these movies are of interest to you. If you have a Samsung JS8500 or above, two of the movies are free.

This hard drive was bundled with the Samsung JS8500 TV we purchased recently. It came with two pre-loaded free 4K movies. The clarity of the images is unbelievable. I found myself standing 12 inches from the screen looking for the pixals which are incredibly tiny. At our 10 foot viewing distance it seems as if we are looking out of a window. This 4K hard drive deserves 5 stars - I gave it 4 stars because it was difficult to find the correct registering directions requiring several phone calls and a visit to the store.

I am in technolgy in the entertainment industry and I can attest to the line of portable / external drives from Western Digital. I have owned other drives that have crashed on me. I have been fortunate that the drives I have bought from Western Digital have stood the test of time and not crashed, knock on wood. I will continue to purchase WD drives. I also like the small size.

I actually have 2 of these - one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The Samsung in the living room is a 2014 model, not a high end model. The uhd-hdr movies will not play back in uhd. In my bedroom, I have an 2015 curved screen - not high end. But it plays the uhd-hdr movies and they are beautiful! Be warned, if you purchase one of the higher rez movies that are not pre-installed, the files are enormous! Still worth it, IMHO

There are minimal instructions for setting this up. It requires guess work for both the setup and operation. It came with the TV and contained two movies, so we appreciate having it. I doubt if we would purchase it independently from the TV. We have not done any recording, so I can't comment on how it works for that purpose.

Good HD and can store more 4K movies and easy to use

This was super simple to install and then easy to use with my 2014 Samsung UHD TV. I only wish I had read the packaging better and noticed the movies were pre-installed, but you have to actually pay to watch unlock them. This is really just to bide time until actual UHD Disc Players come out.

Works as advertised, downloaded life of pi and exodus God and Kings and played great in 4k. Paired with a 2014 curved Samsung 4k TV and Samsung 3500 evolution kit

I got this free with the purchase of the Samsung UN55JS9000. This external hard drive runs off of USB 3.0 and uses the same plug as a Samsung Galaxy S5. Comes preloaded with 4K movies and you got the Maze Runner and Exodus: Gods and Kings for free too upon enrollment. The only trouble I had initially is that the directions didn't really say HOW to play them on the TV. With the USB, you would think to just plug it in and the TV will autopopulate the box and allow you to select the movies on the drive. With this, I had to actually look online and see how to actually access the movies. In the Samsung TVs, you have to go to the M-GO app and actually register for an account, and upon enrollment, you will be able to access the movies on the drive. Just leave it plugged in of course :)

You need it if you are planning to buy 4K movies and download them. It is simple to install and fast

Works as advertised. I am a novice to downloading movies for viewing and this appears to meet everyone's needs to enjoy them. The drive connects easily into the smart hub and could not be any easier.

I love this drive offering vidity UHD with HDR movies on MGO. I've bought several...the only downside is they should offer variety over what movies they have available to open on the drive.

Well not sure if I like it or not. I was told it really doesn't come with the Movies they said it had by the Best Buy Installers and you had to wait for it to be downloaded. But as of now I can't even figure out how to use it or how to find the movies even if they were downloaded. So I am going to say I won't recommend it for now. But it might just be something that I haven't learned how to use.

This was a freebie as it came with my TV purchase, it had 3 movies in it when I received it. A good drive to put some movies on if you want to take them with you to watch.

When this item was included w/ the purchase of my 55" curved Samsung tv I was enthusiastically told it had almost a dozen current release UHDTV movies preinstalled. No mention was made of the fact it was necessary to go online, create an account, & PAY for the pre-installed movies. Mostly , it's a scam!

I haven't used this yet. It came free with the TV and looks interesting. I doubt I'll use it for it's intended purpose (buying movies), but might try it out. I'll probably end up using it as an external storage device on my in-home network. Even if I had paid for it, &80 for a terabyte of storage if decent! And if you're into downloading movies it sure makes it easy.
