This WD 2TB external drive is perfect. It's small, lightweight, packed with power and storage space and so reliable. I use it for my Mac Time Machine and it's literally plug and play. My passport holds tons of data and updates. My love is genealogy and the Passport makes it possible for me to carry it with me and know that it is constantly current. I have also saved the contents of two computers' hard drives on it and it handles it beautifully. A great investment to back-up your data!

Bought it for my windows computer and after I reformatted it, it has worked great. Would recommend! Very compact and quick upload speeds.

I used the drive to back up my 1 TB MacBook Air using Apple's Time Machine backup software. I attached the drive and then opened the backup software. The software recognized the drive and then I selected it as my backup destination. The software immediately started using the drive to back up about 500 GB of data. I drive worked flawlessly.

A little more complicated to set up than its predecessor but great storage for a small price. There are 2 for my computer and I alternate using them for back up, keeping one in the bank box so I am not paying for cloud storage. Light weight and small enough for travel

Recently purchased a new Macbook pro with only 128 gigs of solid-state memory and didn't feel like spending 1000 dollars to upgrade it to something that would make sense for today's computers. found this on sale for about 80 dollars and has been a great alternative. This comes with a USB C cord which is what the MacBook pros have built-in and have the software ready to go for Macs. Plug and play. Keep in mind this is not a solid-state drive like most new MacBooks so it's not as fast and you can actually hear the disc spinning inside of it. They sell externals that use solid-state drive if you want faster read/write speeds but I had no problem with my usage. to give you an idea it took about 3 hours to back up my MacBook for the first time, that's with 62 gigs of information. If speed is not an issue then I would absolutely recommend this as you get plenty of storage for under 100 dollars. If speed is something important to you I would search for solid-state drive alternatives.

I bought this to back up my Mac mini before I updated to the new OS. When I attempted to back it up, I could not without changing the format of the hard drive to match the old OS. I didn't want to do that since I also wanted to use it after I updated. So I saved my most important files to a flash drive first, then updated. One last step before I could perform the backup, it told me I needed to erase the back up drive before it could do the back up. Thankfully someone else had addressed this online and I was able to read how to proceed. It was a convoluted process, but I finally got there. The back up was quick and painless once I finally got it done. I like the look of the hard drive. It is thin and doesn't take up much room beside my mini.

I’m using this with my MacBook Pro as the Time Machine drive and it works great. Runs quiet and cool. Very portable.

For reference, I have a macOS Mojave, version 10.14.6, and this works perfectly with it. Backing up thousands of pictures and videos. It wants you to save your current version of your computer, in its entirety, and if you don't utilize this feature it's a one-by-one transfer process so that's the only downside but I admittedly don't know squat about computers so maybe clicking and dragging over pix and video I highlight is the idiot's way of doing it. This little thing is the size of an old fashioned cell phone and it's very quiet. I like these two features very much.

Got this as to make more storage for my new 24" iMac , love it because it will keep all my files stored and not slow down my machine. Nice compact size, fits perfect under my iMac, easy transporting files to it.
