I have always trusted WD for quality drives. I have used WD for many years with no failures. The drive is extremely fast with my thunderbolt port attached to my iMac. I use it with Final Cut Pro. I can load a project in about three seconds. As I do sometimes need to take my computer on location, this drive will be perfect. My iMac only has one thunderbolt port so this drive not having a pass through port is a negative for me. However, other brands of portable drives do not seem to have one either. This is the reason for a four star rating. If you do not need the pass thru then it would be a five star for you. The enclosure has two, one terabyte drives that are Raid 0. I believe all will be pleased with this device.

Works Great on Windows 8.1 Too!

To get it to work with Windows (as long as you have a thunderbolt port in your system), diskpart/clean the device, then format it to make it operational on Windows. If the RAID configuration is important to you, Windows 8/8.1 has software called Storage Spaces, which I think is better than software RAID and I was able to very easily setup my mirrored (i.e.: RAID 1) backup device. Yes, I know I sacrificed storage space, but I'm more interested in the reliability feature, rather than having space I won't know what to do with. The fan does get a bit noisy though, but it's nothing I can't live with, and the transfer rate on mirrored setup is slightly slower than expected (213GB took approx. 6 hours), but it just goes to show that you don't need a Mac to enjoy this great device.

I'm not a Computer Wiz, I just needed a way to back up all the photos I have saved on my MacBook Pro. I wasn't sure of what I might need, this was recommended by the Best Buy sales associate. It not only fulfilled my immediate need, it has more capabilities that I am just beginning to explore and appreciate.
