If you're looking for a fast gaming drive, this isn't it. The Western Digital Red series was developed for use as a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive. The drives run at 5,400 RPM and last for a very long time. For the price, this is the best bang for your buck. Sure, there are faster NAS drives, but for home use, it's not necessary. I purchased these to replace my old 2TB drives which were full.

Legit WD red, on Amazon they sell a lot of non-retail, broken, and used hard drives.

I got this hard drive because it is pretty much exactly what I needed to build my first NAS. Configuration was dead simple with Open Media Vault. Just format the drive, create a volume and add some shares and I was up and running. No complaints, it’s decently fast and holds the advertised amount of data. As for longevity, it’s been running non stop since I installed it on July 26th 2021.

Good for NAS use cases. Standard drives will work for most consumer based NAS devices but upping the budget a bit for a red class drive will get you a little more longevity.

Pros: Very good initial and long term quality. Good range of capcitites at a competitive price. Compatability with nearly all NAS products. Low noise in operation. Cons: Price can vary a lot. Almost always priced higher than competing brands. Overall a great product just do your research to get the lowest price.

Purchased two of these to install in a Synology 2-disk NAS unit with RAID. Didn't really need all the space, but they are dirt cheap these days. Bought with the Reds for the additional reliability/warranty even though it is just for home use. I've copied about 1TB to them thus far without issue.
