Very Impressed!

We purchased this washer and the matching dryer to replace a four year old Kenmore Elite set.
Also, before my very positive review, I find a few of the other reviews very strange. A few of the reviews, which are very negative, claim they've had this washer for three and four years and that it is terrible. I'm not sure how that is possible since this specific model only recently came out. There were older, lesser versions of this washer which may not have performed well, but don't try and mislead anybody by claiming you have this EXACT washer and that it performs poorly because you have a SIMILAR model from "three" or "four" years ago which you are not pleased with. Go find that model and write a review on its page. Ok, now to business!
Overall, the difference in upgrading to a High-Efficency (HE) washer and dryer from the old standard models is analogous to upgrading from standard-definition TV to HDTV. The difference really is extraordinary. Although she's been wanting to get a new set for quite some time, I've been hesitant in buying in to the belief that these new HE models could really do much better, or save any more money, than what I've been used to. But here is what I have noticed:
First, this new washer uses significantly less water than than our old washer. We are allegedly saving approximately 25 gallons of water on EACH load as compared to the old model. I was skeptical about this estimate when I first learned of it, but after running several loads through the machine, I agree that the water savings is significant. Although I can't corroborate exactly how much water is being saved, 25 gallons wouldn't surprise me!
Second, we immediately noticed how dry our clothes are after finishing a cycle. The clothes are more dry due to the amazing 1100 RPM spin cycle speed, which allows more water to be extracted from the clothes. This results in significantly less drying time, which in turn uses less electricity, which in turn saves more money! And who doesn't want a lower electricity bill?
Third, this washer is noticeably quieter than our old conventional washer, although I must admit it sounds differently. Not in a bad way, just different that what I was used to. It's not usually a constant washing sound like I was used to, but rather a rhythmic sound of changing cycles, all of which are quieter than our previous Kenmore Elite model. Another plus.
Fourth, this new HE washer operates differently than the old model, and in a good way. My old model had the big white agitator in the middle of the drum which would aggressively pull the clothes down through the pool of water. This new HE model has no large main agitator sticking up out of the drum. Rather, it uses a much smaller center agitator in concert with a second 'floor-agitator.' They move in opposite directions to help cycle the clothes through the water. Ultimately, this new process appears to be much more gentle on the clothes than the aggressive method used in the old model. This leads me to believe that my clothes will likely last longer in a machine that operates more effectively, as this one does.
Finally, this washer is just cool! After getting it hooked up, we both just watched through the glass lid as our first load washed! Although these new HE washers look different, sound different, and operate differently, they do a much better job.
I truly am impressed. In fact, I was so impressed that I took time out of my day to stop and write this review.
If I could change anything, I would now re-consider upgrading to the next model (WTW8800YW) for one reason: the LED light! The next model up includes a blue LED light inside the drum. Of course it has additional steam and washer settings, but I wouldn't use those. But I do like that light! Our parents have the upgraded model with the LED light, which you can turn on while the clothes are washing, and it's just cool!
In summation, this is a great washer that performs well. Now that its finally come down in price, I highly recommend it.
P.S.... the see-through lid has this really cool feature which lets it down very slowly. For instance, if you raise the lid half way then just let it fall, it slowly lowers itself into place! I'm not sure why I love that, but I like that Whirlpool thought of some quality-control measures which will prevent damage to the unit. It probably also helps if you have kids using the machine since they aren't always conscious of protecting your washer.

The Washer and Dryer are both excellent for the Value..Best Buy made purchasing this product easy for me and also when they delivered the purchase took their time made sure they did not damage the merchandise nor the walls..they were perfect in every possible way. The Dryer has a sanitation steam cycle that actually makes your underwear so soft..and your clothes come out fresh and non wrinkled..it has a fluff dry mode..that will constantly fluff if you go to bed and leave it on..that way you dont have to refluff when you wake up in the morning..your clothes are warm and clean when you wake up. I highly reccommend these items..I had absolutely no trouble..oh yeah when it becomes unbalanced it slows up and rebalances itself and if you have to reset the clothes it pauses itself and beeps so that you know.

I really like all settings this machine has. I did my homework and after 6 months of looking a decided on this washer. On the day I went in to look one more time, I found that Best Buy was selling the floor model...the dryer too! I quickly bought the machines, washer and dryer, and the 5 year protection plan. Right now, the door is not working correctly but I am confident that the Geek Squad will be able to fix it. The first week I got it, I washed everything. Including a full sized king comforter. It did an amazing job.

By being patient I got a good deal. The machine was on sale as an open box. When I examined it I pointed out problems [like the lid would not stay in open position]. The store reduced the price significantly which also reduced the cost of the warranty package. I took delivery and then called the Geek Squad, the repairs were done and I have a high priced machine for a lower cost.

Whirlpool sells a variety of Cabrio washers, pick one that suits your specific needs. You will not be disappointed. These models use less power, & less water, yet get your wash items exceptionally clean. Also Consumer Reports scored Whirlpool washers at the top for durability, efficeincy, value for your dollar, longevity, & minible repiar cost.

This was a floor model at a greatly reduced price. Great features and energy saving - with $50 PG&E rebate as well. We've only had it for a month, so I can't comment on the long term durability of this washer yet.

I had the Cabrio from 2007 and when it finally gave out, i replaced it with the newer model. I have found it to be just as good in washing. only thing is the features have changed, I will have to adjust to these.

Great machine! Laundry day is a breeze now, Compared to our old machine we can wash 2 loads at a time now. The washer is very quiet and my clothes come out really clean but not beaten up, like they were with my old aggitator washer.

This washer has so many settings that you can wash almost anything. I normally have to take my bulky bed covers to the laundry and pay $8 to $10 dollars a piece to have them cleaned. I can now put them in the washer on gentle and they come out as clean as they do at the laundry.

I'm EXTREMELY picky so of course I did extensive research before deciding on a washer. It took me about a month to decide. I had a hard time choosing as I received conflicting opinions. My appliance repair guy said to ONLY buy Whirlpool products. In his 30 years of experience he stated that Whirlpool was the most reliable brand and had the least amount of repair needed. He also advised me to stay away from LG and Samsung due to the fact that they are made in Korea. If repair is needed on these brands, the parts take longer to order and also cost more than Whirlpool parts which are American made. Sales people confirmed this info regarding the parts.
However, many reviews online for LG products were positive and seemed to have good ratings. Also, the sales people at the stores had good things to say about LG and it seems to have a good track record. Samsung also had good reviews but it is very new to the laundry industry (laundry line created to try to keep up with LG) therefore personally I do not trust it as much since it's still a fairly new brand as far as washers go.
I based my final decision on a side to side comparison. Based on my laundry area size, I had to purchase a top load washer but I was fine with that as I read many complaints about front loading odor problems. I compared the LG, Samsung & Whirlpool (I didn't care for GE or Maytag) and the Whirlpool 4.6 Cabrio Platinum had the most features and the best price. The other brands cost relatively more yet had less features so this was a no brainer. I really wanted the LG as it has a hot clean cycle to clean the washer but Whirlpool has a clean cycle as well but you have to add a cleaning product which is fine because you really don't need to clean your washer often. Also, a portion of the LG panel seemed small to read and looked a bit cluttery. Simplistic and clean designs appeal to me.
The only thing that kept me from purchasing this product was the ONE bad review on this product. It's so new that there were NO reviews AT ALL except for the one bad one. However, I took the chance based on my EXTENSIVE research and hoped that the customer with the bad review simply got a fluke bad washer. I will have to check back in about a month since I've only had this washer for one day but trust me, I did TONS of laundry last night and this washer holds A LOT of laundry and did a great job of cleaning. I watched the cycles and found that the clothes were fully submersed in water and were cleaned very well. I was skeptical as I read many reviews on HE washers saying they only moved a little back and forth and portions were still dry. This is NOT the case with this Whirlpool. So far I am ecstatic and pleased. I now need to purchase a new dryer because this washer holds so much laundry that I need a bigger dryer to keep up with it! I LOVE THIS WASHER SO FAR! I will be back for an update.
I forgot to mention that I really like that you don't have to pull out a tray every time to put your detergent and softener in. I feel like that tray will break over time because they feel really flimsy.
P.S. - I often continue to research products even after the purchase to make sure I got the best deal and didn't miss anything. I told you I'm really picky!! LOL I hope it works out for you if you make this purchase.

Excellent Washer

I must say that this washer is very cool. We were looking a the lower Whirpool Cabrio models with no glass lid top but we got a great price with more options. The glass lid lets one see how these new efficiency washers work, and being the engineering geek I had to look whenever I could hear a new cycle in the wash. Not that this is really functional but is cool to see the first time. For a lower price than the other solid top, this was a no brainer and kind of fun!
Ok, onto the review. I must say that when I read most of these reviews, people are very negative on these new machines. They do a lot of things different than the conventional washers and some things do get a little wrinkled but heck its a washer! So, after looking at the cycles and the numerous settings to change and modify, I have something that must be said to all the folks that give this bad marks - Read the Manual...
Yeah, that seems pretty basic and insulting but these days just RTM and most of the concerns and confusion are answered. This washer handles the large comforter and does a lot of large loads. Really amazing how good this thing washes and for so little water. Check out the cyle, it is an amazing feat of engineering.
Yeah, so for those folks that say this gets off balance, well pull out the manual and see what it says to load this thing. Since it spins so fast, you need to lay clothes out in a fashion to essentially prebalance the washer vs doing what I did in college and dump all my stuff into the bin. This washer wrings out water which in the end makes the dryer operate a lot more efficiently since so much water is taken out during the cycle. Seriously, the clothes are nearly dry when they come out at the end. The cycle takes a lot longer but heck so does the high efficiency dishwasher but with the longer time is more savings in energy and water. I will make that trade every day of the week.
This fits the bill in all respects. Could not be happier!

I was a little concerned about buying this washer but so glad I did. It is a huge (4.5 cf) top loader that doesnt have an agitator. It hardly uses any water and gets big loads very clean. The instructions will tell you that you cant cover the center of the washer with clothes when you fill it. This was a concern as I like to just through my clothes in and go. Turns out the design of the tub allows you to pretty much toss the clothes in without them piling up in the center anyway. With 3 kids, this washer handles the big loads we need easily.

Great Top loading Washer

I've had this machine for a little over a month. At first, I was concerned with the low water level and whether it would really clean the clothes. I was pleasantly surprised that the clothes are coming out perfectly clean. The only thing I have noticed is sometimes the clothes do have some lint and pet hair still on them after the wash. But once they are put through the dryer, it is all gone, so it is not a big issue. (this also happened with my old washer) Even when drying the clothes on the line, I always fluff them in the dryer anyway to soften, so again it is not an issue. I am able to put my very large comforter in the washer and it cleans it really well. I do use a mesh laundry bag for delicate items and it works great. My husband's greasy work clothes are coming out really clean without using alot of pre-treatments. It did not take long to get used to loading this washer and trusting the low water level, and it is performing really well. Read the manual to select the right cleaning cycle for your items. It really makes a big difference! This washer sounds totally different than old washers, but it is still fairly quiet. As other reviews mentioned, it does sometimes twist items up, but I found that if I load the items as instructed in the manual (droping them/piling them in and not wrapping them around the middle) it is usually not an issue. Other reviews said that the clothing stayed un-moved in the tub and it didnt wash them...I have never had it happen with this machine. If loaded correctly and watched thru the entire cycle the clothing is agitated and cleaned. I have never found a load unmoved and still arranged as I loaded it. (although in the beginning of the cycle it appears that way until it continues washing) My husband and I also love the glass lid. We found ourselves watching this machine work often. It is much more efficient than our 20 year old traditional tub washer. If you are a very short person, be sure to check out the top load models in the store before buying one....they are deep and may be hard to reach into if you are short. I am glad we chose the top load model, as there is no issue with any mildew/mold smell as reported with the front loading machines. So far, I have no complaints. I am very happy with how well this washer is working for me. If I have any issues with this machine in the future, I will update this review. Read all reviews carefully, as some of the negative reviews were for an older model. This model, 8600YM, is performing as advertised and we are competely satisfied so far. I would recommend this washer.

Unfortunately my experience with this washer didn't start so well. I had to have it replaced within 5 days of buying it and putting it to use. The washer stopped filling with water and the repair company indicated that it was likely the mother board and that it was likely a manufacturing defect. I had a new one delivered and it has been wonderful. We love the size, great for comforters, and it is easy to use. It also is great on water savings. I do recommend it but the first few days were disappointing to say the least. However, BestBuy took care of us so that made up for it.
