I didn't set out to get a higher end microwave/convection unit. I was replacing a very old (30 years?) microwave. If you have a wall on the hinge side of an OTR unit the door might not open wide enough to get things in and out (the hinge design evidently has changed over the years). This was the least expensive unit of two that appeared to fit my kitchen with no hinge issues. The microwave is quite powerful and has a number of useful menus. They explain, in a series of steps, how to cook a number of foods. So far I’ve steamed corn, cooked perfect rice, made French toast, grilled bratwurst and made oatmeal using the menus with good results. The convection preheat takes a while, but so does an oven in a range and this uses less power. If you know how you want to cook something the manual settings are also straight forward. The timer works independent of the microwave settings which allows multitasking. It will take a little time to tweak some recipes, but that is a minor incontinence. Overall I’m happy with the purchase. I had Best Buy install the unit. The job was subcontracted to a local company. The installer was on time, explained what he was doing, and made very little mess (which he cleaned up). He had the microwave installed in less than an hour despite the challenge of removing the ancient OTR. He even set the clock and talked to the cat watching him work.
