Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the deep gameplay, touching story, and immersive world of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, often praising the game's music as well. However, some find the voice acting and battle system to be challenging, while others point to occasional performance and resolution issues, particularly in handheld mode. The map's usability is also a source of some frustration for players.

A very excellent game with an intriguing story. Game-play is quite fun, and the cut-scenes are very in-depth. That being said, the cut-scenes may run on the long side for some folks and this game definitely has its roots in Anime. The women are scantily clad with rather ridiculous proportions, but if you can get past that, the character development is very solid. Not a game for everyone, but definitely hits the nail on the head for its target audience.

A worthy (but flawed) successor to Chronicles

Rather than return to the foundation that X laid out, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 follows more closely in the steps of the original game with mostly great results. The gameplay is as engaging as ever, the world and characters are interesting, the music once again is amazing, and the story (while not amazing) keeps you hooked throughout the lengthy main quest. However, there are some odd design choices and areas that really lack polish which leads me to believe that the game was rushed to meet the end of the year. The interface can be a pain to navigate, there are some bugs and optimization problems (had a softlock in the menus that lead to some lost progress), and the map and compass aren't always helpful leading to some "where the heck do I go?" moments. One of the most annoying aspects of the game (and my second biggest complaint, first being that if the player character gets KO'd when the party gauge isn't filled enough you automatically lose the battle) is that the field skills that you need to advance in some of the sidequests are locked behind irritating RNG and grinding where you need the right blades with the right level skills to advance. Dragging your butt all the way to where you need to go for a sidequest only to discover that you can't advance because one of your skills happens to be one level off is insanely frustrating. These drawbacks are disappointing, but Xenoblade 2 it's still very much worth playing if you're into JRPGs or enjoy the Xeno series. Plus the developers are working to patch out the map and interface problems and technical issues that I mentioned. Hopefully they'll do something about the field skill system too.

As far as JRPGs go, this game hits a lot of familiar notes. I was worried the combat would be overwhelming, but ended up being very fun to learn and master. This is a LONG game and well worth the journey. Plenty of memorable characters and moments with a fantastic story to contain it all.

Purchased for son at Christmas. He loves this game better than the original. I love that it is digital instead of a cartridge that can get lost or damaged.

If you're a fan of classic japanese RPG games then you'll definitely enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Great story, great characters, a deep combat system and great open areas. You'll easily get up to a minimum of 80 hours of gameplay from this game if you intend to finish it.

If you've played any of the Xenoblade titles (not to be confused with the Xenogears or Xenoblade games), you've pretty much played this one. But for those of you who haven't, here you go: A single player MMO-tinged JRPG with tons of anime style, moderately open world exploration, and a fun, crazy storyline that has as many twists and turns as the JRPGs of old. This game's style in particular relies on the "Blades" in combat, which are not swords but humanoid (and occasionally beastly) monsters that have various powers used to fight off baddies. Think of them as sentient pokemon that wield strong magic and weaponry meant to take down armies. Story is pretty standard, even with the twists and turns. Boy meets girl, girl turns out to be a magic weapon, and they try to save the world. Just like how our parents met, right? Music is 10/10, A+, superlative, as to be expected by Mitsuda at this point. A genius at his craft, possibly the medium's best at this moment. Graphics, on the other hand, are a mixed bag of Switch-y goodness, with most everything resembling a very nice PS3 game, with some occasional pixelation when too much happens at once. If you've played Vita games on a PSTV you have basically played XC2. All in all, a very good game and a lovely little JRPG-- which are few and far between nowadays. If you even remotely like the genre, go get it. You won't be disappointed.

This is more of a spiritual successor to Xenoblade Cronicles than a sequel. However, the game is still fantastic. The game starts off a little slow but within no time you are exploring and fighting monsters. This is a must buy for any and all Switch players.

I had never played an entry in this series before this one. I picked this up because I used to be a fan of the Final Fantasy series back in the day. I just had an itch to play an rpg and figured I’d give this one a shot. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. The story is convoluted but engaging. The combat is confusing at first but stick with it and it opens up into something much more interesting than it first appears. My only knock against this game is the voice acting. It’s horrid. Not bad enough to detract from the overall experience. I highly recommend this title.

Great JRPG with a worthy follow up to the previous titles. Titles like this show why the switch has so much momentum, this is a great experience and you can play anywhere! Please buy, please support the developers. The more we do, the more support the switch will get and the gamers will win.

Great game. Good game mechanics that add more items as the game goes on. You literally get new skills and mechanics added to gameplay 5 minutes in and 60 hours later. Great story and awesome sound track. Definitely not a short game.

A Great Entry in the Xenoblade Series

Truthfully, this is my first Xenoblade game and even first Monolith game. The combat here is reminiscent of older MMO games with special moves that can be performed to combo with other characters in the party. This game is Waifu-Pokemon since you use "Blades" which each have different movesets and skills, and are plenty of pretty girls to collect (GOTTA CATCH EM ALL). A long compelling story with mixed delivery of dialogue from the characters, but overall a great experience.

I've been a fan of the Xenoblade Chronicles series for quite some time and enjoyed both the original on the Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U, and the 3DS version of the first game. I was excited to play the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 since its announcement and I'm glad that the feel of the original is well captured in this sequel more than it was with X, despite the more fully anime character designs. The visuals and gameplay are pretty solid and like the other games in the franchise, there's a bunch to do along with a variety of Blades to gather as you make up any party you please along with how to level grind. I'd totally recommend this for Switch owners, especially those looking for an RPG or JRPG.

I think you need to have an expectation of what a JRPG is before buying this game. If you go into Xenoblade 2 aware of the grindy nature, the sub par voice acting, and the 'wacky' anime mannerisms you'll enjoy the game. It's actually interesting because I could buy many games that are more fun, but not nearly as addictive. I have found myself glued to my switch for hours on end loving the combat system. Almost all RPGs have a meta game, and Xenoblade 2 is no different. That being said I think the rewards are substantial and have associated side missions that are enjoyable. Story is cliche but enjoyable. I honestly wasn't too into the story until 15 hours in. But once it gets going, it's a lot of fun. I have to knock it one star due to the grindy nature and the VERY repetitive voice lines during exploration. There is no need for the protagonist and his entourage to say the same stuff over and over and over and over again.

So, I have not had the opportunity to play games in a while, since I was in my late 20s, close to 40 now, and I got my switch. Got this game and it is the best decision ever!!! Love the movies, love the action, even though I feel stuck, and wish there was a strategy guide. You play as Rex, a salvager that dives into the cloud sea to get old relics and stuff to send money back to his family. You become a driver with a blade. Basically you are hunting monsters gaining exp and trying to get back to the old world where there was peace and not war. Totally fun game with great graphics and not to hard to control the controls of the switch.

Deep combat, good story, likeable characters, beautiful soundtrack, and promised new content to come throughout the next year (mainly for expansion pass holders). Having a wonderful time with it so far, even with the less-than-optimal performance in undocked mode.
