I had a Yamaha receiver before that worked excellent (and still does after 10+ years) just didn't have HDMI or 4k. When I finally decided to upgrade my TV and receiver, I wanted dual zones so the kids could watch TV while I listened to music in the kitchen or on the deck so I went with Onkyo. It died 3 mos after being 2yrs old. So this time (after much research on line) I went back to Yamaha and glad I did. The sound is incredible! (I have it pushing thru a Bose Acoustimass 10 system) The picture thru the HDMI is amazing and the dual zone usage is way easier than the Onkyo. It has WI-FI and many pre-loaded music apps (Pandora, Spotify, etc.) including internet. So if you live in an area that is not close to your favorite radio station that streams (like myself), you can dial it in that way. It also has MusicCast (Yamaha's less pricey version of SONOS) which I have not purchased yet, but am considering for other rooms in the home. The set up was simple and the user interface is easy to understand. It has quite a few different listening categories for movies and music which is nice. While selecting these different listening types, it shows up on the TV screen what you've selected. So if you have the receiver in a console (like me) you can still see what type of "sound" you've selected (e.g. Sci-Fi, Adventure, Standard, etc). My great room is 22' x 24' and it fills it with clear, clean sound no problem! Since this is a 7.2 receiver, it also has Dolby ATMOS for anyone looking for that feature. Another feature it has that I was looking for was the analog phono input. So anyone looking to listen to your old school vinyl collection the way it was intended, this gets the job done nicely! Overall I had this for about 2 mos now and am extremely happy! If you're a novice audiophile like myself, you should not be disappointed!

I purchased this receiver to upgrade the Yamaha Home-Theater-In-A-Box system that I had purchased several years ago. My main objectives were to improve the sound quality in the room, enable 4K playback, and utilize the Zone 2 function for our outdoor speakers. This receiver met and even surpassed all of those objectives. The best reason I can give for anyone looking to purchase this unit is the sound quality. It provides a nice, rich sound even using the small, cheap satellite speakers that came with the old system. The detail is the sound is the most remarkable improvement. The built-in Bluetooth is a very handy feature over the older Yamahas that required an adapter. The menus are very easy to navigate and fairly intuitive. The YPAO system allows you to get a nice baseline configuration for your room right from the start so that you can begin enjoying your new receiver. Additionally, this receiver does come equipped with Party Mode, which allows you to listen to the same source in the Main Zone and Zone 2. Overall, it's a great receiver, and I highly recommend it.

Technology changes and other upgrades over last 10 years caused a need to upgrade the receiver. Significantly better sound! 2-channel stereo converted to full 5.1 fills the sound holes. Ready for prescence and surround backs when I am. Nice bluetooth. Venice and Munich sound halls interesting. Need to print the manual or you may regret it if problems come up. Overall very clean sound, pretty close to live performance when it is set up. If the zone 2 works, I'll be a happy camper!

Bought this with a lot of debating. I've had Yamaha's for over 12 years and have loved their DSP programs and they are a just great work horses to anchor a Home Theater system around. Also if you are a serious music listener then this works for that also. For serious listening you can switch up to 2 channel listening. With it's low THD of 0.06% it is clean and wonderful. So all in all, if your on a budget this is the receiver for you. Dependable, Quality and a workhorse at a great price.

The good: Great sound, lots of features. Easy to set up.
The bad: I bought an open box unit, and it died after a month of very light use. It would power off completely even if it was in standby. Had to pull the plug from the power strip and wait 30 seconds or so. Then it would work for days, or minutes. Very random. Buy a new one!

I have been without a receiver for my surround sound system with Bose speakers for a few years. I finally had some extra cash and bought this. The sales people were very helpful and I am very pleased with the receiver. It was very easy to hook up all of my older components, and satalite dish system.
It took two tries because I misread the instructions. I highly recommend this receiver the sound is awesome. My speakers have never sounded better!

This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver over many years and once again I am definitely happy. The sound is great. Being able to control the receiver via a web browser and from an Android app is a nice add-on and it's much easier than using the panel. You can easily tune the sound as you sit across the room. I was disappointed that I can't feed a second main amp to feed other parts of the house. Overall quite satisfied.

The setup and cable attachment was very easily accomplished. I am very pleased with the sound I am receiving with my 4K Samsung Smart TV I also purchased from BestBuy. This is my 3rd Yamaha receiver I have purchased. It seems that 4k brought about this latest... and it will not be my last, You can count on it... The one I replaced is being used for my 1080I Sharp TV. The first one is For Sale...

Love this receiver. Had an earlier version but it does not compare to this one. Works beautifully with my home theater projector and the surround sound is great. Changes smoothly between HDMI inputs with little to no delay. So happy I purchased this as a replacement for the one fried by a lightening strike. Bad for the receiver, but good for me.

I had to upgrade my receiver because I needed 6 HDMI hook-ups. The set-up is super easy using the on screen menu and the big bonus the Yamaha MusicCast app. It allow you to play music straight from your phone to the receiver through your home Wi-Fi, and I couldn't be happier about this feature. I'd highly recommend this product!

My last Yamaha receiver broke during our move and after looking at Denons and other receivers, I went with another Yamaha. The receiver has great power and it is currently hooked up to 7.1 B&W speakers and I am planning to add 2 more speakers for presence with a single zone in our theatre room. Sounds great and the iPad app works great. My only gripe with the receiver is the documentation which needs to be downloaded as opposed to being on paper.

Let me start by saying this unit replaced my Pioneer VSX-1021 which somehow got the UE33 bug.
To all those people who think this is just "plug-n-play", let me just say
READ THE MANUAL and run the YPAO setup before condemning it.
I Don't need a new cartridge for my turntable, Don't need new speakers,
and no longer hate listening to some music because it sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard. I can even use the analog out on my Onkyo CD player and it sounds fine as does the DJ cartridge that came on my Audio Technica turntable. The Atmos surround seems to function as advertised, although I may eventually move my front height speakers to an overhead position. The app seems to work well on my Insignia tablet..

Bought this as an upgrade to my previous system, and I'm very happy with it! Comes with Bluetooth built in, so no more plugging devices into the Aux port! The wifi feature is cool, allows you to stream from music services without device casting. The surround sound is better than ever!

Replaced my 30 year old Yamaha receiver with this one at about 20% cost of the original. Easy setup. Outstanding features. Even has "phono" input so my B&O turntable is still functional, too!

Good set up for the price. Good sound quality and power. I returned it since I did have the two extra channels and got a Yamaha 5.1 system. Very pleased with it. Only issue of improvement would be when powering up it always goe to the blu ray player and overrides anything that you already have on (cable)
