Upgraded to this model when my current Yamaha started to experience issues. For me this unit has enough inputs I am able to hook up my turntable (which I had hooked up to my desktop) as well as my dual cassette deck which was not possible on the old unit because there wasn't enough inputs. Had the Geek Squad come out and set everything up and this new unit sounds great.

It’s a great 2 zone system, but limited user guide and difficult to navigate. Not happy that the sales Dept failed to explain tharcwhile its a two zone , still needed additional equipment ( about $150) to tie into the whole house system. Sound and is fat as tic and powerful reliever for the price point. If you’re not a techno geek, there is a lot to this system and only phone support can get you past it.

Replaced a Sony reciever with the Yamaha 880 along with the Klipsch reference speakers and 2 polk 400 watt subs. I really like the difference of the power output with crystal clear clarity. It was easy to setup. I dont like the remote it is heavy and bulky, but that is the only downside to this setup. If you have a decent sized room this is the reciever to get.

I treated myself to this for my birthday. It replaced an older model Yamaha receiver. It has so many bells and whistles it will take me some time to sort it all out. I really like Yamaha equipment. It is more difficult to set up, but well worth the effort.

First of all, make no mistake this is a great reciever. I bought this to add some umph to my music listening and provide a hub for xbox, roku, blu ray, and tv apps. I'm currently in an apartment so I wasnt looking to do much here, just wanted a reciever that sounded decent for movies/music and could do 4k. so I was trolling the recievers when Larry at Bestbuy #1436 offered to demo some options in the magnolia section. I've always had pioneer recievers so we started there but at his suggestion he really stretched the legs on all of them and was like 'now, check out the yamaha' and with apples to apples comparisons of others in its class with the exact same high end speaker configs this reciever sounded amazing. I didnt purchase new speakers, just added a some existing (read: old) speakers/sub from a previous build and movies and music sound terrific. I use an old harmony one to handle input switching so no issues there either. only been a couple of weeks but I've seen no issues.

Great Receiver

My biggest annoyance with this receiver, the amount of time it takes it to switch signals (turning it on, waiting for it to go from HDR back to Dolby Vision). The "AI" part is pretty useless, and not artificially intelligent, at all.
That said, it's an incredibly powerful receiver with great sound. I can hear stuff, without resorting to increasing the volume so high, my neighbors hear it.

Lots of features that are great for different functions.
Huge setback is that you need the remote to access most of the features, or it's just incredibly confusing on how to access them without it.
Worth the buy, just don't lose the remote

Bought this as upgrade from Denon 791 because of ATMOS. This is Yamahas middle of the road receiver and it blows away the Denon. Paired with B&W speakers, now sounds just like the movie theater. well worth the money

This unit is easy to install and set up with the TV screen menu. The power level is a perfect match for speakers rated in the 100 to 150 watt RMS range. The sound quality is superb with the 0.09 TDH distortion rating. I am very satisfied with the Yamaha after owning several Sony receivers, most recent of which I blew the power transformer trying to get the sound level I wanted. My advice, spend a little more and get Yamaha fidelity. You won't be disappointed.

Recently upgraded to a 4K TV and my old Yamaha receiver only supported 1080p passthrough. So I upgraded to this baby and so far I am loving it. I was very worried about HDMI 4K passthrough with my Xbox one X, but it works flawlessly and all features including HDR10 work great as passthrough. The dedicated HDMI 3 input is designed for gaming (it even says it on the HDMI port) does a nice job of minimizing HDMI lag. Lastly, the Yamaha iOS app was super useful for the initial install. Yamaha does a great job of explaining what each feature does in this neat little app. Anyway, now that its all setup I cant wait to play Red Dead Redemption 2 in sweet sweet 4K HDR with Dolby Atoms!!!

Excellent sound quality. Could not get zone 2 pre amp and amplifier to work with second set of speakers even with help from Yamaha customer support. This function worked well with the older Yamaha HTR-5990 AV Receiver.

I originally bought a Yamaha model lower in the range and didn’t realize that lower end receiver didn’t have atoms support so after more diligent research I decided on this one. So glad I did. It’s more powerful and sounds much better too. Lots of speaker options and I’m looking forward to using ATMOS.
The set up is pretty easy to get it going. Tweaking it and understanding all the option takes time and experiementing. Download the Yamaha app, it super easy to use and simplifies some functions with immediate results.
The sounds are full and powerful, music is great but movies are spectacular.
