This receiver was the best purchase for my surroundsound, the dual HDMI out is the greatest for controlling two TVs. I love the dual zone for music while hanging out in the backyard and especially when having family over for parties. After hooking it up to my Speakercraft ceiling speakers, it was a night and day difference in sound quality. I didn't know there was a Yamaha app for it, I downloaded it and WOW I could control everything in the receiver from my phone. A++

This receiver sounded better right out of the box than the Onkyo it substituted did after hours of setup. I am not an advanced user, but I can work my work around the settings. What I like the most is the ease of use of the on-screen interface and of the smartphone app. In terms of sound, it is very clean and crisp with plenty of power.

Best upscaling to 1080p I have ever used! The dsp options are numerous and having two subs along with my 7 other speakers has put my home entertainment into the next level. Just watched some of my Transformer, Dark Knight and Matrix through this Yamaha into an hidef projector onto 10' screen and the WoW factor is a 10. Also watched the new RUSH Time Machine dvd and concert level sound is easily achieved without making the sound muddy. Use the 'Enhancer' on any of the dsp settings to add a bit more 'depth' to the experience. I replaced a 15y/o Yamaha HTR5750 and this RXA850 still has that sweet transition from speaker to speaker during serious surround action. I haven't used the UHD upscaling yet, but from my experience with Yamaha, they will have nailed it and I will be wowed by this receiver once again!

Good product from a 15 year old Sony. The modern features like Bluetooth, wifi, and video upgrades are nice. Also seems to output a good signal to my speakers. Wish that there was a way to 1) watch the tv signal while listening to the Internet or cd, and 2) listen to digital signals on zone 2. Also would be nice to have a visual light or display symbol for DTS when watching cable to make sure my xfinity box is working properly like my old Sony.

I mainly bought this for Atmos and multiple sub support. Best receiver for the sound quality at this price point. Can be controlled via iOS app.

I used this for a party and ran 6 sets of speakers, indoor and out, and it was spectacular!

very good sound. dose a great job on records. has great sound on movies and on tv shows. only draw back is that it dose not have an ac plug on back.

I decided on the 850 model because it's the mid model that includes the phono input and was a good price compared to upper units. I've spent more time setting g it up than I thought, but now all seems to work harmoniously. I paired this with a now rare set of Acoustic Research M2 sonic holography fronts, sub, surround so far. I can hear things I never have before. Yamaha's Aventage series, to my ears, produces a very clean, tight and stirring sound. My home theatre is now almost what I've wanted. I need to fine tune the speakers with the ypao microphone. The remote is really the worst part. Buttons way too small and need a magnifying glass to read much of it. It also will get the receiver to respond one press per 15 seconds or so, making setup a pain. I don't think it's normal and will check with Yamaha about that. The manual is more disappointing because it's so schizophrenic, see page 87 which says see page 34, etc. Put it in logical, useful order Yamaha! Overall a fine amplifier with the necessary pro reviews to back me up. I think it will be appreciated for years to come.

I've always liked Yamaha amps and I got this one on a great deal that I couldn't pass up. Nice set of features with good power. Hs the latest audio codec in Dolby Atmos, but doesn't have DTS X. Regardless of the last omission, this amp will give you years of satisfaction.

Definitely buy -- very powerful and has ultimate connectivity across analog, digital, computer and home theatre inputs. Interface is a little confusing -- some settings can only be done via the remote. Also, sound output is geared towards digital home theatre -- if you want a better sound on phono analog you will have to jigger settings to push the middle range.

I am continually impressed with this receiver the more I use it and play with the settings. This receiver has so many options that I find more and more the more I play with it. I wish I had upgraded to this receiver sooner. I can't rave about this unit enough. The app is fantastic. What a great setup.

My last receiver lost the zone 2 channel sometime ago. I needed zone 2 because the house has speakers that I wanted playing music all the time, so that I can just turn on speakers in each room using external volume switches. This receiver is much more advanced then my last one and I spend a lot of time playing with it on the cell phone, too cool. Yamaha really has the best quality of sound and features, I am very happy with this unit

Very powerful amp drives two zones with ease. Tuner sensitivity is very good. Sound is clean as it should be.

This Reciever will meet all your needs, great price for all the added features. Love the added atmos option.

This unit works really well. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars is the input 1 slot seems to have issues. The picture along with the sound cut out when the cord is in the input 1 slot, it works great with the input 2 slot.

I love how this receiver uses Airplay with iOS devices. Bluetooth works great and it has great features.

Very good sound/picture with TV/Blu-Ray pass-through connections.

The sound on the receiver is awesome. Also with internet hookup the amount of stations is endless

This years model as to be the best one I have gotten it makes my sound just that more powerful

My biggest complaint is the owner's manual. It needs to be a printed copy enclosed with the item.
