You are a dung beetle that takes up the job as a the sole postal carrier on an island on the brink of collapse. Will you be able to solve the mysteries of this place while still delivering the mail?
Strange I know. Anyway Yoku's Island has your little dung beetle use a ball tied with string to make use of the island's bumpers, flippers, and launchers. See the entire Metroidvania inspired island is like one massive sprawling pinball table. When you are on level ground you can roll the ball left or right but you'll need to use the environment to really get around.
And unlike pinball with it's fail states (like running out of balls or tilting) and score keeping, Yoku is all about the adventure of solving puzzles and completing quests. This makes for a relaxing experience. I only got frustrated a couple of times with trying to hit flippers just right to complete a task.
The game has a water color story book like aesthetic with music inspired by the music you might hear in Hawaii or the Caribbean. It's just a very chill game even in its more stressful environments.
The story is actually quite good too. I don't want to spoil anything though! Lots of funny characters to meet which makes the island feel alive. Most Metroidvania games are quiet between big plot moments but Yoku is more like a JRPG town spread out over the whole game. There's interesting characters in every environment.
If you don't manage to do everything before the credits roll there's side quests you can finish after, like delivering mail to all the boxes on the island.
Overall Yoku's Island is such an enjoyable and unique experience that I strongly feel it is worth the time of any pinball or platforming or adventure game fan. Or just any gamer really!

I was not sure if I was going to buy this game at first, but I decided to get it due to high reviews. I really like 2D platformers and on top of that I really love pinball so I decided to give the game a chance. I am really glad that I did because this game is beautiful and so fun to play. The art style reminds me of Ori and the Blind Forest and the game play and characters are really charming! You never run out of things to do due to all of the quests that you pick up along the way to help you further your exploration and story. Overall if you like 2D platformers and/ or pinball please give this game a chance!

Pinball meets Open World

When I think of the genres open world and pinball, these are the last 2 genres that I'd ever imagine being combined. However, somehow, the developers have successfully married the 2 genres in one of the most unique and brilliant experiences I've ever played. The game is cute, charming, and a total blast to play. One of those experiences that comes along every now and then as a sleeper hit that few know of but is an absolute must have. I highly recommend checking this one out.

This game really took me by surprise. I read about it and was intrigued by the pinball aspect of the game. And man is this game a real hidden gem. Not only is the pinball aspect cool... but it's just a fun adventure game with cool characters, unique locations and additive gameplay. Would love to see a sequel!

If I had to choose one game as THE hidden gem on the Switch, it would be Yoku's Island Express. This game is a mashup of pinball and Metroidvania, two genres which I love, and I can't say enough good things about it. Great gameplay, charming world and characters, excellent music, and very relaxing to play. Stop reading reviews and buy this game now.

Yoku's Island express is a 2D platformer title based around pinball physics. Yes, you read that correctly. Admittedly enough this concept works really well. That and the game has a great story and a fun soundtrack to boot. Give Yoku's Island a try, it's unexpectedly fun and enjoyable.

I actually bought this game for my fiancé, because I'm trying to get her into gaming...well...into more games than just Donkey Kong Country. She loves platforms with a little dash of puzzles, and really doesn't like to fight baddies. This game combines all of those things into a super cute, upbeat look as you literally pinball yourself around the large world map. You explore all of kind of different areas from jungles to snowy peaks, and collect fruit to unlock more bumpers to knock you around to other areas.
I highly recommend this if you're looking for something different. It can be frustrating at times, and it's annoying that there isn't any fast traveling, but I think the creative pinball/platforming mechanics make up it on their own.

This game is just a delight. Totally came outta nowhere. I did not expect it to be this fun, the characters are cool, art style is great, the pinball and platforming game mechanics are a sweet combination here. Not sure I have met anyone who does not enjoy this game.

You might not think a platformer centered around pinball mechanics would work, but Yoku is an amazing and unique title. Tons of fun, lots to explore and collect, and great price!

A beautiful platforming adventure with a twist on how you control your character. You are Yoku, a mailman beetle, you will explore a big and gorgeous world without the ability to even jump. How can this be done? Pinball mechanics. Can it possibly be done well? Somehow the developers made controlling Yoku by launching him around with pinball flippers work perfectly. I was skeptical it could be done well, but the controls are seamless. Fantastic game, highly recommended.

Short, fun, quirky experience. I can't say I've ever played a game quite like this one. Half pinball, half metroidvania. Overall a fun game, especially for the cheap price.

This game is super fun and really enjoyable. I love the mix of exploration and pinball mechanics. I didn't think this would be as great as it is!
I enjoyed it all the way through but once the game opened up after I beat the last boss and was freely allowed to explore the whole map, I realized how much of a pain it was to use the pinball mechanics to simply get from point A to point B.
Don't get me wrong, this game is fun but if you're just running around it can be really annoying if you just want to platform up one a bit. Maybe for those who are pinball wizards this will be a walk in the park?

Yuki's Island Express is worth you money and your time! One of the better and more creative platformers in years, you play as a beetle making his way as a postmaster... Through a world of pinball! That's right, this is a platforming pinball adventure game and it's amazing!

At first I thought this would just be pinball with a twist, like Sonic Spinball or Kirby's Dream Course, but it is actually a mix of pinball and an adventure game. The atmosphere is intriguing, the plot simple but fun and the game play simply excellent. At the end of the day though, I still recommend this to people who like pinball and people who like adventure games.

This is a platforming pinball game... sounds weird right? Well it is, but somehow it really works! The game is a bit slow at times but it was a genuine joy to explore the island, find the collectibles, and unravel mysteries all while mixing in some pinball/puzzle mechanics. Highly recommended!

This game is beautiful and colorful with enough challenge to test battle-hardened gamers, but enough leniency for the whole family to enjoy playing. Why would you want to play a pinball game where you stare at the same board the whole game when you can play pinball mixed in with an adventure platformer?

I had this title digitally on my Switch and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to have a physical copy. It is a fun mix of pinball and a side scrolling adventure. If you want to try before you buy then I recommend the demo that should still be available on the Nintendo eShop.
