    Yooka-Laylee - A Spiritual Successor

I've rented this game a few months back and was able to beat this game. I went into this game with an open mind. Yes, I've seen a few reviews of this game, but I wanted to share my own thoughts and experiences with this game. **PROS** ~ Yooka-Laylee is filled with quirky and memorable characters. Such as Capital B (main antagonist), Dr. Quack, Trowzers, and featturing a special guest - Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games. ~ Collect Pagies (equivalent to Jiggies): You collect them to open up more new worlds or expand the world that adds more stuff to do in it. ~ Collect Quills: Collect Quills to unlock new moves for Yooka-Laylee to help progress to places you couldn't traverse before. ~ There's a Hub World to explore from Yooka-Laylee's home to Hivory Towers. It's all connected. ~ The soundtrack to Yooka-Laylee was fun, memorable, and enjoyable to listen to. The ones that stood out to be was Tribalstack Tropics, Hivory Towers theme, Capital Casino Boss theme, Galleon Galaxy Minecart ride theme, etc. ~ Transformations - Like in Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee can transform into different things. With the help of Dr. Puzz's transformation ray. With these transformations, they can gain access to areas that they couldn't before. **CONS** ~ Rextro's Arcade Games: they were not as fun as I would have hoped. There were like one or two that I actually did enjoy playing, but the rest were not that great. ~ Kartos' Minecart Sections: It was cool to see some side-scrolling minecart levels that are inspired by DKC minecart sections. But... I didn't have as much fun as I would have liked. There's a slight delay on the jump. I wish you could kill enemies if you jumped on top of them. There were a couple of minecart levels that I did enjoy. One from the MoodyMaze Marsh and one from the Galleon Galaxy. I remember there were issues that people had with the game when it first came out, but those issues have been patched out. Luckily, the Switch version had the updated patches already in the game. I wasn't too crazy about the $50 price tag since the PS4 and Xbox One versions costs less. Luckily, I had a $10 gift card to use to reduce the price. Inside the case comes a small instruction manual, [man, I miss those days when games had physical manuals]. and a Limited Run pamphlet advertisement. There's also a reversible cover that shows the whole cast of characters from the game. If you don't like the front cover, you could just switch it over to the reverse side. Overall, despite its flaws, Yooka-Laylee is a decent game to play. I hope that Playtonic will take the feedback and improve the formula in the next Yooka-Laylee game. I am looking forward to playing Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. I've heard good things about that game.

Game itself (storyline, characters, worlds) is great. However, I just finished playing Super Mario Odyssey which had incredible controls, camera toggling, etc. In comparison, this game is really tough to keep up with camera angles and controlling the characters movements as much. I love the Banjo Kazooie game from N64 so wanted this game despite the warnings about gameplay issues; am still happy I got it.

This is a very good platformer game for the switch. It's a limited run game too. Which means it will become super rare. This game has some camera glitches, but tolerablem. Some platforms/ puzzles are tedious/thoughtful. Good graphics and decent music. I would give this game a solid 8.

It's exactly what I was hoping for in a Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor. The camera can be a little rough, and there are certain elements to terrain and controls that are frustrating, but overall if you were a fan of those N64 Rare games, this is a modern version you will enjoy!

Beautiful game and the gameplay is easy to get used to. The world's are kind of large in comparison to what you have to do in them and how far each thing is to each other. Bit of unnecessary space. Wished the world was either more compact or there was more stuff to do to really fill up the space. Overall pretty great game so far.

This game came out for the PS4 and Xbox One a couple years ago and the company, Limited Run just published it for the Nintendo Switch, which I think is really cool. The one thing that is not cool is the $50 price tag that they are asking for. It's a little hard to recommend only because you can go ahead and get the same game for the PS4 or Xbox for $20. Other than that this is a direct successor of Banjo-Kazooie or other Nintendo 64 games. It's cute, and fun, but if you plan on getting it for the Nintendo Switch, wait and see if it drops in price.

Yooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer in the style of classic Nintendo 64 games like Banjo Kazooie. The reviews were lukewarm, but the game is a solid title although a bit disappointing based on what we were shown during development. Still it's worth your time, and this is the physical version of the game, published by Limited Run Games. Purchased this in hopes that the Best Buy/Limited Run partnership produces more quality physical releases of great games.

From what I've played, I can see why people think this is the best port for the game. It still has some issues here and there, but it shows that Playtonic Games made sure this was good to go themselves. The camera works alright, the platforming is neat, but my only real gripes are that the mini-games can be rough, and swimming is controlled a bit poorly. I dare say it's kinda a bit worse than with Banjo-Kazooie, the game that this is a spiritual successor of. I guess they couldn't really fix that, but they did give the ability to be able to move underwater like you're on land, even if only for a short time. So, yeah, I think you guys should check this out. Also, a lot of the humor is the classic Banjo-Kazooie goodness, and the bird that resides in Blasto must be protected at all costs.

If you are already sold on going digital and filling-up a ton of memory cards, you might want to buy this off the eshop and ignore this review. If you do not see yourself going back to play your old games or not wanting to be able to trade it in when you are done, go with the eshop. If you like having a physical copy that you can play a few years down the line or trade-in toward something else, this is the only place to get Yooka-Laylee at a reasonable price. It is easily one of the best platformers in recent years. I am a big fan of Team 17, and it is great seeing this game come to the Switch!

If you're a fan of classics like Banjo-Kazooie and other 32/64-bit era games, or if you're looking for something to share with the kids, you've found the right game. Having played it on both Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X, I can say that both versions are equally great and provide hours of jumping and collecting. It gets docked a star for a rather high price tag compared to the disc versions (XB1/PS4) but otherwise its a great game.

A limited print, Best Buy exclusive variant, physical copy of Yooka-Laylee for the Nintendo Switch. This game is a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series and is suitable for kids and will be a fun experience for adults who played the original series as a kid. Being a physical product means that you can enjoy this for years to come without having to worry about the digital marketplace closing down or it being removed from the marketplace.

Being a exclusive release by bestbuy caught me by surprise. Noticing this I seized the opportunity to purchase this. Holding out on a Switch physical release was the main reason. Yes, the other platforms are much cheaper in price. Part of me wanted to have this on a Nintendo platform since it’s a spiritual successor to the Banjo games of the Nintendo 64.

Created by the team responsible for the games most of us remember as kids on the Nintendo 64. Even though it received a multi-platform release. I feel like this game was always meant to be played on a Nintendo console. Many people held out for this specific version release and never really gave it a chance. This game is very fun and a major call back to the classics we enjoyed in the late 90s.

    Good game, but coded wrong

The way this game is coded, it launches first and then asks for which profile to use, because of this your total hours of play aren’t listed under your profile. The game is treated as a profileless game because it doesn’t ask for the profile befor e launching. However the game itself is pretty good. But for people that like knowing how much time they’ve put into a game, this one will disappoint you.

    The Evolution of Banjo Kazooie

This game is exactly what it was meant to be, an old school collect-a-thon. It definitely has some issues and just doesnt seem as polished as something these days should be. It is still a lot of fun and will remind you of the old days of collecting everything and learning new moves to traverse levels in new ways. I had fun with it, but just don't expect it to revive/reinvent the genre.

Initially I bought this game for my kids (8 & 5 year old boys) but I find myself playing it often! It’s a great platform game, comparable to Spyro, where you meet a bunch of cute characters, have to collect items and earn abilities, leading to HOURS of gameplay. Very happy with this purchase.

This game is similar to Banjo Kazooie, instead of collecting musical notes you have to collect pagies. There are five worlds to explore and lots of items to collect along with new moves to learn as the game progresses. I wish someone would publish a strategy guide to help with the game.
