Customers have good things to say about the gameplay, charming characters, and humor in Yooka-Laylee, describing it as a fun and nostalgic experience reminiscent of classic platformers. However, some customers point to occasional camera issues, somewhat slippery controls, and aspects of the level design as areas needing improvement. The game's difficulty was also cited as a potential drawback for younger players. While generally well-received for its charming qualities, some technical and design elements received criticism.

Great throwback to 90s 3D platformers

This was a good, though somewhat flawed throwback to the 3D platformers of the N64 era. Though the game looks beautiful and has solid controls, sometimes level design will lead to some really frustrating moments. The final boss took maybe 20 tries for me to pass. The "voice acting" gets old quick too. But some flaws aside, I had a pretty good time with the game

My husband and I enjoyed taking turns throughout playing this game. It's a great modern collectathon with the occassional camera problem. Most of the issues have been fixed by updates - and there is supposed to be another update soon to address the camera. If you enjoy collectathons and platformers, I would highly recommend this game.

This is an old school throwback to 90's collectathon platformers like Banjo Kazooie. You play as a lizard with a bat on its back, which allows you to perform various abilities like rolling around on the ground or flying.
There are 5 levels: a tropical island, a snow/ice level, a swamp, a casino, and a futuristic space themed level. There is also a hub overworld. Each stage contains hundreds of quills and pages to collect, as well as bosses and various retro-style arcade challenges to conquer.
I would say the first 80-90% of Yooka-Laylee is decent fun. The controls are a bit wonky, but there is a certain charm and the worlds themselves are interesting to explore (they can get quite expansive). The last 10%, however, is where the game becomes a slog as the janky controls start interfering with the pixel perfect precision the game unfairly demands of you in some of the harder challenges. As long as you're OK with not 100%ing the game and can recognize when to quit as the game starts to turn unfun, I would recommend this.

This is an awesome game for anyone who played banjo kazooie or games like it. It's a lot of fun, basically you just go around finding collectibles and solving puzzles. I find it nice to play games like these to have a wide variety of stuff to play.

If you played and loved Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on the N64, then you will love this game. It is made by several of the same developers. It so closely follows the Banjo formula, that it is almost trademark infringement, but that is a good thing.
The controls could be just a bit more tight, especially when you are rolling around, but otherwise it is a solid experience. It has the same humor and charm that Banjo did, but in a modern package.
All-in-all a great game, and one of the best platformers on the PS4, well worth it's price.

This game is geared towards Banjo Kazooie fans. It has similar controls and characters. The game has some graphic issues but those will be addressed with future patches. I personally feel the game is still good enough to purchase and enjoy

The spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie, Yooka Laylee is a well-done and fun platformer throwback. The various worlds look beautiful and the gameplay is fun. Sometimes the camera can be a problem, but overall it's an enjoyable game.

This game is banjo kazooie reincarnated. If you enjoyed banjo, you should like this. The biggest problem is the camera angles. They are terrible and make it very difficult to complete certain tasks. It's fun but requires patience.

This is pretty much what the third banjo game should have been. Not that atrocity known as Nuts and Bolts. Granted it still feels like a game that was made for the N64 at times its still a solid platformer.

Yooka-Laylee feels right at home next to Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64, having been made by much of the same team as those games, and using he same sort of formula as those. The presentation is pretty much perfectly in line with those games, which is exactly what people were hoping for. The gameplay feels like those classic games, though there could have been more improvements made to camera control and such, it's still a marked improvement over those older games. I think if you're looking for another taste of a Banjo style experience, you'll be happy with this game. If you were hoping for a more significant and meaningful evolution of the collectathon platformer genre, this isn't really that game, but it could be the foundation of that sort of advancement in the future.

Then you will enjoy this game. It's a call back to all the older 3D platformers on N64. There's some camera angle problems and the levels aren't that amazing, but it's the closest you will get to nostalgia these days!

When the news came out that members of the original Rareware team, who made Nintendo classics such as Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, and Banjo Kazooie, were reuniting to bring a new Banjo-esque games to the current world of gaming, gamers everywhere rejoiced. This game delivers exactly what it promises and takes you back to the 90s. Complete with silly dialogue, and personified object and animals. The lovable duo Yooka and Laylee are just as great as the bear and bird from our childhoods and are not hard to welcome into the Rareware family. If you are a fan of 90s 3D platformers, or want to learn about a lost genre from the past, Yooka-Laylee is a must have.
