Customers have good things to say about the gameplay, charming characters, and humor in Yooka-Laylee, describing it as a fun and nostalgic experience reminiscent of classic platformers. However, some customers point to occasional camera issues, somewhat slippery controls, and aspects of the level design as areas needing improvement. The game's difficulty was also cited as a potential drawback for younger players. While generally well-received for its charming qualities, some technical and design elements received criticism.

Yooka-Laylee does what it sets out to do-- create a 3D platformer that hearkens back to the era of collect-a-thon-style games like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. Though the camera disappoints and some sections of the game aggravate, overall, Yooka-Laylee is an enjoyable romp, though it might be too old school for kids (mostly in the challenge department).

This game follows the traditional 3D platformer standards of the late 90s-early 2000s almost to a fault. If you want more Banjo-Kazooie though, this is the closest thing you'll get.

i grew up playing banjo-kazooie, and when the brand suddenly disappeared my whole family was bummed. Finally after years they have come out with a game that has the same feeling from when i was a kid. I waited for it to come out on switch, but finally broke down and bought it for the ps4.

Fun game, was hoping for more banjo kazooie through all the slow annoying repetetive sound and gameplay.

If you can find this game on discount, its not that bad. Yes it is buggy and has random slow downs. However the gameplay is fun call back to the late 90s 3D platformers genre created by greats like Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie or Spiro the Dragon.

This game is a platformer similar to the Banjo-Kazooie series on the N64. Really fun game made by those same developers.

I read reviews before and the game didn't have a great reception but for 12 bucks I thought why not. I'm not a big fan of platformers but I do enjoy some of them and this one is a mix of two things I am not a huge fan of (open world and platforming) and it does nothing to make it exciting (like having a decent combat system).

Passable Game, but Not What I Was Hoping For

I grew up playing and loving Banjo-Kazooie so I was really excited when Yooka-Laylee was made. My excitement quickly faded when I started to play the actual game, as there are significant issues with the camera, the level design is pretty weak, and tedious additions like having to take timed quizzes to encounter the next area. It feels like the question of whether or not these aspects make the game fun was never considered during development. After playing though the awesome Ratchet & Clank reboot on PS4 last year, I had high hopes for this game as I love the genre, but this was a huge letdown.

It's basically everything you could ask from a character platformer, with it comes everything you loved about the Banjo Kazooie/Tooie games on the N64 and everything you may not like as well. The game does NOT hold your hand but has a very good challenge level.

I love it so much that I got the platinum for it, but it's truly a shame that so many people hated it. Yes, it had some minor issues that unfortunately do take away from the experience, if only slightly. Namely in the minigames, but they weren't THAT bad.
I hadn't been that addicted to a game in a long time, and it rekindled my love for 3D platformers. ;-; I hope we get another one.
It was a true Banjo-Kazooie-esque experience but with modern everything: controls, graphics, you name it. And I LOVED the quiz sections!

Warning: If you were not a gamer in the days of Banjo Kazooie then you may want to rent first. This brings back all the gameplay from that era of gaming, both good and bad. Couldn't resist picking it up on a deal of the day for a steal of a price.

A great successor to the classic Banjo-Kazooie back from the N64 days. For anyone who has played Banjo-Kazooie will definitely enjoy this game. Even for those who hasn't, it is still a good open world platformer game that's worth looking into.

If you loved Banjo Kazooie then I dont see how you wouldn't love this game as well. Its a true spiritual successor to the game and and plays just like it right down to the gibberish language. I loved it and it put a smile right on my face.

This game takes me back to when games were simple. Run and jump around huge levels mindlessly collecting things. The graphics and controls are both great. A new camera patch just released that cleaned things up a bit. Overall a fun game.

A nice fun game to play a kill time. Personally the completely open world with no real direction doesn't appeal to me as much as a game with some slight path but still a very fun game apart from that. Similar in feel to banjo kazooie.
