I very much enjoyed this movie. Both from a subject matter and for the quality. The premise of the film is quite good - killing and resurrection of Christ, as told by a non-believing Roman solider. As a believer, I very much enjoyed the film. The UHD presentation was great. I thought the use of HDR was well done here, especially with the number of outdoor/bright scenes. The WCG use was also quite good, even though the tone was slightly muted (they are in a desert after all). The audio was pretty good too. There's no need really for a lot of special effects in this film, so the surround was effective for what was needed.

This film moves at an incredibly, almost unbearable slow pace. However, the ending makes it all worthwhile. By the time the viewers reach the end of the film, even the unbelievers will start to doubt their unbelief. This story gives the observer a first hand look at the journey of a Roman Tribune from unbelief in the Messiah, to forsaking his Roman citizenship and all the earthly riches that come with it, in pursuit of his new found belief in a "Risen" savior. I can truthfully say this film had a positive effect on my faith in Jesus Christ as my savior. A faith based movie with high production values worthy of the subject.

While a fictional story set in biblical times, this is a well-done and respectful movie. The acting is very good and the story moves at a great pace. Both people watching from a religious or non-religious viewpoint will enjoy this film. Joseph Fiennes is an excellent lead as a Roman officer tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus' body after the crucifixion so as to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah. Whatever your religious affiliation, this movie will have you thinking and pondering the questions it raises. This is a great new Easter movie to add to your collection.

I’ve read and seen many stories about the mesiah but Risen tops most. Other than the movie “Ben Hur” Risen is pretty close to being my favorite. It tells a story of a soldier in the Roman army who has to find out about the “Mesiah” Hebrews are worshipping as the son of God. Through his search he discovers uncomprehendable events so he leaves the army in persuit of the truth. A very good tale or nonfiction story about Jesus ... cleverly done. It’s a good movie for all.

This movie was one that I did not know if it would be good or even worth my attention. It turns out, it is a very interesting perspective of the events of Jesus' death and the following days. It is something that will not be considered Biblical, but it is something to get the mind going. This was good overall movie. The acting was well done. The soundtrack was good. The only reason it lost a star was that it was sometimes chaotic in how it showed events. It would have been nice to have a slightly more solidified chronology.

Risen is a refreshing retelling of the story of the crucifixion and resurrection. Seen through the eyes of a war and world weary Roman officer, it is never irreverent and always interesting. Joseph Fiennes is excellent as Clavius, the Roman tribune who sees things that he cannot, at first, understand or accept but whose journey with the Disciples leads him to question all that he believes. The supporting cast is very good as well. This is a movie that holds up on repeat viewing and I highly recommend it.

Firstly, Joseph Fiennes (as Tribune Clavius) is terrific in this. The story, which follows a Roman tribune as he tries to track down Jesus' body & followers after the resurrection, is well thought out and plays like a (good) police procedural at the beginning. The acting is pretty solid for the most part, though some of the disciples are jarringly hokey. The final conversation between Jesus and Clavius felt a bit short and unsatisfying. Overall a strong film, however, and worthy of watching.

This movie tells the story of the Roman soldier, Clavius which was excellently portrayed by Joseph Fiennes. It shows the perspective of Jesus' death on a Roman perspective and the journey he went through until finally realizing who Jesus is. It isn't focused on the story of Jesus, and that is what gave it an interesting perspective. It also is visually stunning and absolutely well acted. It is a movie that both believers of Christianity and those who doesn't believe will appreciate and enjoy watching.
