First and foremost the bright blue light concern. I read numerous reviews indicating that the blue light that come on when charging was so bright that people had difficulty sleeping in a dark room and even others talking about being able to make shadow puppets on the wall. The light is simply not as bright as indicated. Also, if you slide the back down to the flat position, when you place your phone on it to charge, the bottom of your phone will cover the light even more. I have a new iPhone X, it is on the smaller side when you compare to the Samsung phone, so those larger or rather longer phones when placed flat will cover the light even more. With regard to the quality and design, this wireless charger is made well. The materials look high grade, the top itself with the leather look and grain are especially nice. The movement of the unit from the reclined back to a flat position is smooth and yet does not feel flimsy as you change from one position to the other. The USB C cable is in fact on the shorter side as many other reviews mentioned. If your outlet is close by, you’ll be fine, if not, I might recommend in advance to purchase a longer cable to be prepared to get as far as needed to your outlet. Now, the actual performance of the charger itself is just short of the spec. This unit indicates that it can charge a dead phone up to 50% in 30 minutes. I have tried this five different ways. With my wireless charging friendly case on and off and using the Samsung power plug and directly to my outlet USB 2.5 watt charger without the Samsung power plug and last, just using a plugged in lightning cable. With and without the case made no difference. With the Samsung power plug it charged the phone from 1% to 39% in 30 minutes. Without the Samsung power plug and plugged directly into the USB outlet it charged from 1% to 46% in 30 minutes. The lightning cable charged from 1% to 34% in 30 minutes. Overall this says a lot how wireless charging is a very viable option today. I would personally rather not plug a cable into my phone anymore if it is no longer needed. I never got the 50% in 30 minutes no matter what I tried, but I can live with it. I would prefer that the manufacturing specs meet a realistic number. For now they fall short. Obviously, this isn’t a comparison of others in this same category but for the Samsung unit, it is definitely a good unit and perhaps I might get the RavPower down the road for an office charger to compare given that it was the only other contender that I considered.

We have multiple Samsung phones in our household, with my spouse & myself owning the Galaxy S8+. Although we have solid wi-fi throughout the house and my spouse being able to work from home, our usage varies so much that we can go through a solid charge in no time if we are using our phones to do a lot of things. Having the ability to have this charger available in the middle of our main room, for either one of us to place on the charger without looking for regular, wired chargers is not just a convenience, but a must. Since purchasing this charger I am very rarely ever catching myself below 50% for any reason at any time. When I am watching TV or just doing something else around the house I leave my phone on the charger and it just stays charged. I have no issues with the phone overheating. My spouse says that when they are working they leave the phone on the charger awaiting that next phone call. In the upright position, they can see all of there notifications pop-up when necessary, without having to remove the phone. I read before I purchased mine that the charger can be a little funny when standing the phone upright, but I have had no issues when carefully placing it as close to the middle of the pad as I possible can. The fast charge is exact and charges just as fast as the regular, fast charging cable they provide with the phone. My only negative is that the price is high compared to other charging pads by Samsung, and really high compared to the off-brand pads. That is the only reason I have it 4 out of 5 stars. I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket so I purchased this for much less than the regular price and that is ultimately why I went for this product. If you can afford it I would highly recommend this item.

Finally, FINALLY it takes less than two days to charge a phone using wireless charging. I'll give Samsung a huge thumbs up for the quick-charging version of their wireless chargers. It only takes a small amount longer than the adaptive fast-charger that comes with their newer phones, and previous Qi solutions were only about as fast as regular, 1A USB at best. This particular charger is pretty handy and is a pretty good solution compared to their previous solutions, a standard flat base and a stood-up fast charger. It lets you use the charger as you see fit. I usually keep it propped up so I can still see my phone, but there are occasions where I lay it down so my phone will lay flat and out of the way. It offers a single product for multiple kinds of users. I don't have a particular option on the materials used for building it, but the faux-leather is kinda nice. The base is pretty solid once in place, with a non-slip pad on the bottom. It doesn't move during any normal use. One of my favorite parts is that when propped, the phone-stop at the bottom will allow the phone to sit in just the right spot (it was reported with older models that you only got quick-charging if the phone was juuuuust right, but as I never purchased those, I could not tell you if that is true or not) for fast charging even with a case on. I use an Otterbox Commute, not the thickest case but certainly not the thinnest either. Overall, it's just really convenient to just set my phone down. BONUS: The power source is a regular Adaptive Fast-Charger with a USB-C cable, not a special kind of charger and plug. Well, no more special than the samsung-limited AFC chargers.

    What is all the fuss?

Ok... I'm a tech junkie, and I have had many phones....just this year alone. But wireless charging isn't something I've ever considered a big deal. So, I just want to make sure I understand "wireless" charging and why so many people rave about it. Bought this yesterday with a Gift Card, so not my money and I'm trying to be objective here. I have an S8, so figured, why not give it a try. Ok, you plug the charging cable into the wall, then into this wireless pad, set your phone on top and it begins "fast-charging" the S8. Only, my phone was at 7% and it said it was gonna take 2 hours and 33 mins to fully charge. I had a Speck clear case on at first, then I took it off to see if there was a difference in charge time. Same charging time popped up. I plugged in the charging cable directly into my phone, it said 2 hrs 5 mins until fully charged. Now, I'm no genius by any stretch... but that isn't fast charging, and it certainly isn't a reason to spend $68.99 just to have a leather stand to put your phone on, when the charging cable is a mere 5mm away. What a gimmick....I don't see what all the fuss is!!!! I have seen reviews of phones where people won't consider buying a particular phone, if it doesn't come with wireless charging. What on earth am I missing? Now, since I have, and it was purchased with a gift card, it I will use it which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. If, I had used my own money for this garbage...I'd be very unhappy.

In today's society phones have become an extension of ourselves and its commonplace to be on your phone multiple hours throughout the day. With the advancement in technology and the proliferation of phablets like the Samsung Note 8, these mini computers and their big, bright screens utilize increasing amounts of battery draining power to operate, requiring daily charging to avoid being stuck with a paper weight. While USB cords can be bought for a few bucks and are a dependable way to charge your phone my last phone was the victim of a damaged charging port due to being loosened by the repeated motion of insertion/removal. This is where this simple, attractive and unobtrusive device comes into play. You place your phone centered on the charging pad and it immediately begins to charge at the rate of most fast chargers. If you want to watch a movie while charging the base can be manipulated to charge in an upright position. Either way the phone is easily accessible to answer when a call comes in or to grab and go as you head out the door. With the cost of phones today it doesn't make sense to be tethered to a cord and I think the look of the device, its fast charging capability and the convenience it affords makes it well worth the purchase price.

***Disclaimer*** I received this item as a free gift when purchasing my new Galaxy S8 through a promotion provided by BestBuy. This is by far my favorite wireless charging pad that I have, for reference I purchased some cheap Qi charging pads off Ebay that are very small and can be difficult to ensure proper charging as well as the Quirky Ohm. The features that I like about this charging pad are that the material that it is covered with has a good amount of grip (the Ohm in comparison is very smooth and I have had my previous phone slide off of the charging pad due to it also being angled). This charger can also function to prop the phone up or lay flat which is novel and when it is propped up there is a clear indent for the phone to rest safely. Finally, this does support some degree of fast charging. This fast charging as not as quick as providing a direct connection to a fast charger (I tested this while on the pad the estimated time to full charge was 1 hour 40 minutes, when plugging it in directly to the samsung provided charger this dropped to right around 1 hour). Overall I am very happy with this charger, having received it for free, however, I do not think that I would buy this if not on sale due to the high cost in comparison to other brands.

The Samsung - Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible Stand is pretty cool, in theory. I mean it does work exactly as described. You set your phone on it and it starts to charge. There is no need to plug a wire into your phone. There does, however need to be a wire from the wall to the device, making the charger itself not easily mobile (you can just take a wall plug which is smaller and lighter). It does slide up so you can charge your phone with it either lying flat or leaning up against it which is nice if you have on, say a desk. You can't, however, use the phone while charging. The other drawback is the phone has to be directly on the charger. So, if you use a cell phone case to protect your phone, as many of us do, you will need to take it out of the case every time you want to charge it and put in back in to the case when your done. For me, it's just easier to plug the wire directly into my phone....no fuss, no muss. Plus, then i can use the phone while it's charging. Like I said...cool in theory, but hasn't turned out to be very practical. For me, at least. Absolutely no problems with the product itself though.

I thought having this wireless charger would be fun. At best, its problematic. If I just had the phone and no cover on it, this might be better. However, I have a leather cover. It does work, but problematic at situating it just right to keep it charging. If its off one iota, it bounces back and forth and then, when I don't notice, it loses the connection and I come back to a phone that was losing its charge when I thought it was charging. Sometimes the only way to know, is open up the phone and look to see if a charge sign is showing in the charger icon. So, I have to keep fiddling with it to make sure it is actually charging and not discharging. So 3 stars is best I could do. In my mind 2-1/2 stars would be more accurate now that I've been using it for awhile. Yes, it was free, but some people are actually paying a lot of money for something that, if you have a cover on your phone, may not always be charging when you think it is..... Just a heads-up.
