A Blast From The Past
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember watching this movie when it first came out, and let me tell you it's just as hilarious now as it was back then. The 4K ULTRA HD does show the age of some of the effects more, but it's a comedy so it shouldn't matter. It's a def must buy for fans Simon Pegg movies.

An original celebration of the zombie genre
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shaun of the Dead is the first installment of the Cornetto Trilogy, aka the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy, followed by Hot Fuzz, then The World's End, all written By Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg. Said trilogy is a must for anyone with a good sense of humor, and a wonderful introduction to the joy of British humor, even for those who don't usually like British anything. What's not to like? There's plenty of gore, a love story, the brand of humor that comes with the story of a grown man working a dead-end job and clinging to his youthful freedom, action, a great soundtrack, endless quotability, and astounding replay value due to recurring jokes you might not catch until the seventh time you see it. It's never dull or boring, and has sweet references to many zombie horror favorites without ripping anything off. This version is well fortified with special features that are actually entertaining, and don't spoil the movie. In fact, seeing many of the special features helps you realize how well the whole troupe works together as far as writing and acting. Buy now!

In the tradition of the late George A Romero
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You know the type of movie. The main character is just moving along in life, happy, drinking beer, playing video games, and not cleaning up his place. Suddenly BANG, the zombie apocalypse happens. One of the funniest films of the past few years, Shaun of the Dead manages to skewer and lovingly address the zombie genre made popular by George Romero and other horror directors. The entire cast is great, especially the two main characters played by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The HD is great quality and The surround is very active, with the zombies growls coming from every direction during key scenes. This film is pretty much an aural and visual assault on the senses. The extras are the same ones you can find on the regular DVD release but they're entertaining at the least. I'd recommend this disc whole heatedly to comedy fans and horror fans alike. The Steele book looks awesome.

Well Edited and Very Well Paced
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not an Edgar Wright or Nick Frost or Simon Pegg fanatic; and sure, there is a bit of nostalgia around this movie for how many times it was watched as a group during my freshman year of college ... but I do find that it was just a well-edited, straight-forward, mish-mash of fun and heartfelt sillyness and seriousness. I haven't really liked any of the follow-ons, they all veered into adding more, stretching out the pacing to a breaking point, and messing up the mish-mash so badly that it just become a total mess of tones that leave me feeling like "what is this movie even trying to be?!?". But this one I think is that reigned in first, but not really first ("Spaced" was already there), effort that is just that right amount without trying to oversell its thin premise. Neat steelbook and it comes with the UltraViolet copy -- all good.

The All Time Greatest Zomcom!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Shaun of the Dead on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray! I was at a loss for words and only $17.99! I had to get it. This is by far one of the greatest cult classics of my lifetime. This has to be up there with Rocky Horror Picture Show, Anna and the Apocalypse, Wolfcop, Bubba the Redneck Werewolf, Bubb-Ho-Tep, Evil Dead Trilogy, Slither, Repo The Genetic Opera, The Devil's Carnival and Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival. Anyway back to the 4K it has a brilliant picture and exquisite sound Shaun of the Dead has never better. You could say it is almost UNDEAD!

Great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Blu-Ray edition simply offers the movie in better clarity than DVD. That is the only advantage of this over the DVD Special Edition release, which was loaded with behind-the-scenes bits. I know a lot of people don't bother with home video disc extra features, and I usually only watch those once, but this does not even have a menu or chapters. Most Mill Creek Direct produced discs are cheaply produced, without proper menus and with poor packaging. Still, if this is priced really low and you want to watch the movie with better clarity, it serves that purpose.

Terrific Zombie Satire
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Zombies have become serious subjects in recent years, what with the phenomenal run of "The Walking Dead" and its super-serious approach to the zombie apocalypse. This satire/parody created by the English team of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright is a perfect antidote for anybody tired of the whole allegory spawned fifty years ago by horror maestro George Romero. This is the movie that Monty Python might have made had they stayed together. The edition I bought on sale comes in a steelbook case--even better! This makes for a perfect Halloween night at the movies.

Feature packed discs and come with a neat case!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm definitely picking up the Steelbook editions of the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy! Great packaging and displays nicely. Great features and extras, and the digital copy is just gravy. Shaun of the Dead is certainly one of my favorite movies. Director Edgar Wright did a phenomenal job with creating this film that is not only funny, heartwarming and cool, but also is packed with great homages to the zombie genre and his other bodies of work (i.e. Spaced). Simon Pegg and Nick Frost careers have certainly catapulted since this movie.
