It's great...Worth it...Great for portraits and low light...Image quality is only marginally better than the f/1.8, and while it uses a USM motor (not ring-type) to focus, it really doesn't focus that much faster and isn't terribly quiet while doing so.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Standard Lens: This Canon 50mm lens has an unusually large maximum aperture so you can get detailed pictures even in low light without needing a flash. It's excellent for basic portraits and scenic shots, especially at night.

Go for it....Sharp lens....Great for portraits and low light situations....The hood, however, keeps the lens out of harms way quite effectively, and it increases contrast and reduces flare at the same time by preventing light from entering the lens at high angles of attack.

Great Lens....Best lens...Great lens for low light...I was searching for a replacement to my Nikon camera/lens combo- I love the clarity of this lens- however, I am slightly disappointed in the range- My Nikon 70-300 was able to take much better pictures of the players on the baseball field- I cannot get on the field and the reach of the 70-200 lens is just not enough.

Love it...Awesome Lens...Great for low lighting!...Also, this dates from the film days and not the high reflectivity digital image sensors, so if you stop it down to about f/2.8 you get horrendous veiling and aperture-shaped reflections from the sensor if you have light sources striking the front element on a digital body.
