"The attachment takes up less room than a foot processor/slicer appliance and I actually use it. My previous processor/ slicer was such a pain to get out of the cabinet, setup and use and then clean....Even if I had to turn it on and off manually I would still prefer that to having to purchase a whole new Vitamix OR just a Food processor from a different company which is most likely what I am now going to do as I refuse fail to see why it absolutely has to have a auto detect feature to function.
