Synopsis

Shrek
In this fully computer-animated fantasy from the creators of Antz, we follow the travails of Shrek (Mike Myers), a green ogre who enjoys a life of solitude. Living in a far away swamp, he is suddenly invaded by a hoard of fairy tale characters, such as the Big Bad Wolf, the Three Little Pigs, and Three Blind Mice, all refugees of their homes who have been shunned by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). They want to save their homes from ruin, and enlist the help of Shrek, who is in the same situation. Shrek decides to offer Lord Farquaad a deal; he will rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), who is intended to be Farquaad's bride. Accompanying Shrek on his adventure is the faithful but loquacious Donkey (Eddie Murphy), who has a penchant for crooning pop songs. The two must face various obstacles in order to locate the Princess, but they find their world challenged when she reveals a dark secret that will affect the group. Shrek is based on the children's book by William Steig, and features additional voice-work by Vincent Cassel, Cody Cameron, and Kathleen Freeman. ~ Jason Clark, Rovi

Shrek might have been one of those computer animated films that really raised and set the bar for the genre. Between its smart writing and entertaining story, hilarious voice acting (Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, need I say more?), appeal to both adults and kids, and superb animation, it's no wonder it won the first Oscar for best animated feature. I had never watched it in 3D, and only had the DVD before, so this was the perfect way for me to upgrade to hi-def, as the 3D disc also plays in 2D. A fantastic movie in 2D, Shrek plays outstanding in 3D. The depth really adds extra definition to the already stellar picture quality, and the sound has plenty of oomph, along with the music that fills the room appropriately. Dialogue is crystal clear and never lost in the mix. For anyone who enjoys 3D movies even half as much as I do, and loves Shrek, this is a worthy addition to your 3D collection, and a must have at least on 2D bluray.

Before Despicable Me, The Lego Movie & Dreamworks' successful franchises, Shrek has remained a household name in animated filmmaking and popular culture. Shrek (2001) is one of the most original animated films to ever exist as a simple journey of a scary, yet friendly ogre and his sidekick, Donkey to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona remains a satirical twist to the Disney formula that has cultivated from our childhood once upon a time. While the movie still succeeds in its fun characters, witty and funny storytelling and well-executed animation, the movie will engage adults as it does with kids as the BluRay edition provides beautiful, pristine picture and immersive soundtrack. If the movie's not enough, there are extras including an HBO: making of featurette and other behind the scene features and as for the kids, Sing Alongs are always open for viewing. Shrek and Shrek 2

Shrek is a funny and good movie too watch, but is it better thank Shrek 2? First lets start of with the problem, Shrek likes princess Fiona. But there are also other competetors trying to get her love. In shrek 1 Shrek has to rescue and find a way for the princess to love him. In Shrek 2 the prince is trying to get Shrek off the radar so he can marry her instead. In both movies there are funny lovable charecters. But if i have to recommend which one is it better, i would have to say the first Shrek. Both are really funny movies, but Shrek is a classic. Go out and get this movie now!

The Best CGI film since Toy STory

Yeah there were a few in between that were pretty OK, but until Shrek came along the CGI movies were just a little surprise that came along once in a while mostly from Disney/Pixar now every company that makes movies has seems to feel they need to make at least one of this sort. MOst of them aren't very good, but Shrek managed to bridge the gap between young and old and it's pretty watchable for everybody. That can't be said about a lot of these.

Regardless of how many times I watch this movie it just gets better. It was great the first time I saw it and hasn't diminished since the last time I saw it. Kids adore it while adults are treated to hidden little jokes which go way over a kid's head. The 3D effect are terrific also.

In my opinion, this is the movie that set off the whole computer animated movie craze. The cast includes numerous well-known's, and their voices match each of their respective characters perfectly. This movie is loaded with tons of humor througout the movie, with just a touch of adult humor added in. And, no matter what the aspect ratio of the movie is, I highly recommend this movie.

Shrek is an amazing movie, everyone should own a copy. It gets better and better with each viewing! The movie is great for all ages, there is embedded humor that keeps the adults laughing along with the kids! The dragon scene is too scary for my 2 year old son -- he adores the rest of the movie as long as we skip the dragon scene. I highly recommend owning Shrek on DVD!

The blu ray quality in this one blew me away i was expecting more like DVD quality copied onto a blu ray disk like many of the re-made movies we buy today but it was more like the movie was filmed in hi def to begin with. Great Buy
