Synopsis

Originally telecast on the Fox network, season one of Slidersopens as college student Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell) develops a device resembling a TV remote-control which enables him to open a portal to what seems to be a different universe. Entering the portal, he is disappointed to find that he is right back where he started, in the San Francisco of 1995. And yet, there are subtle differences: Elvis Presley still lives, the colors of traffic lights are reversed (green now means stop), and so on. Clearly he has stepped into some sort of parallel San Francisco, and upon this discovery, Quinn summons his grumpy psychic professor Arturo (John Rhys-Davies) and his computer-store co-worker (and erstwhile girlfriend) Wade Wells (Sabrina Lloyd) to test out the device again. Inadvertently swept into the trio's next foray into an alternate world is Rembrandt "Crying Man" Brown (Cleavant Derricks), a has-been pop singer en route to a gig that might have enabled him to make a comeback. In rapid succession, the four sliders end up in a contemporary San Francisco still mired in the Ice Age, then emerge in the same city at the same time -- only now San Francisco is a satellite of the old Soviet Union! For the rest of the series' first season, the protagonists hopscotch through a variety of alternate worlds in their efforts to return to their own world. In the process, they foment a second American Revolution (seems the British won the first one back in 1776); they save a parallel San Francisco from destruction by an asteroid; they enter a realm in which the '60s hippie movement is still alive and well; they show up in a Frisco where women hold all the big jobs and men are subservient; and, in the series finale, Wade is targeted for extermination when, in a utopian San Francisco, she draws a winning lottery ticket that doubles as her death warrant (shades of Shirley Jackson!). ~ Hal Erickson

Sliders was an excellent sci-fi show with an interesting premise for it's time -- parallel dimensions and universes. This enabled the show to be different every week, exploring different Earths and considering different underlying questions/concepts every week as the cast tried to get back to their Earth. I remember watching this show originally on broadcast TV for 3 seasons and then lost track of it, as the ratings slipped and it was picked up by "cable tv". Later, as dvds were originally released I purchased the first 3 seasons and then the 4th and 5th season releases seemed to "vaporize" and were not generally available in stores. So it was great to see this rerelease of the entire series on dvd. I will enjoy revisiting Sliders and seeing what I missed from the final season. This dvd release of Sliders is a phenomenal value as you get the complete series for essentially the price of a single season release. However, there is a tradeoff in that the packaging is horrible. The cardboard slipcase is so thin that when you grab the package it bends and collapses. After removing the shrink wrap, be careful not to grab this box set from the top as you will see the cover slide (just like the Sliders) and all your discs fall on the floor. Due to the packaging, I rated this set at 4 stars instead of 5.

One of the better made for TV Sci-Fi series that always kept you guessing where the team of Sliders would wide up next! The first three Seasons kept the core group together until they started to kill off and replace certain members of the cast. ( Spoiler Alert ) Ever though there were always a lot of references to the other gone characters and even imply on chances of bringing them back, none of that materialized. The Final episode was very disappointing and seemed to have left it open to another season which never came!

"What if you found a portal to a parallel universe? What if you could Slide into a thousand different worlds? Where it's the same year, and you're the same person, but everything else is different. And what if you can't find your way home?" That Monologue had me glued to my seat since 1995 I the adventures in the show really make you think and you can't imagine all of the early career guest roles

I saw it on release for 19.99. Yes I wanted it, but once i got it home I realized why. Just a fair warning, love the show.....but, The discs aren't in dvd cases. You get a bunch of cardboard slips with 1-2 discs in them, barely less flimsy then the box their in, which you'll notice when you pick it up. Good deal but should have had at least the thin disc cases....so fair warning, in case you want to have something ready to put the discs in for their protection.

A very good and interesting “what if” sci-fi tv series that lasted for five seasons. I feel it had a very strong start but somewhere in the third season it started falling apart. Brought this compilation for series continuality (there were some good episodes in the last three seasons). It’s worth the viewing.

I grew up in the 90's and loved the television show Sliders which featured Jerry O'Connell (previously of the Stephen King movie Stand By Me) and always considered owning the series one day. Well, when Best Buy offered this set at a reduced sale price I jumped on it. Now I can relive some of those awesome moments of the show anytime I like.

Honestly, I bought because I had seen the first episode somewhere and thought I’d like to see the rest, for 20 bucks really a no-brainer! The dvd itself is fine, no special features, no special packaging just the series and nothing more. The price makes it an easy decision to buy

I will start off with the fact that it was only $20 for the whole series so that alone is awesome. The only reason why this doesn't get 5 stars is because of the packaging. I might just be a little picky with TV Dvd sets, but I don't like all the discs being in paper holders. It kind of annoys me more than it should so only 3 stars for the set.
