Hi Everyone. We just bought this yesterday and spent the good part of the evening playing with it and because of my pleasant experience i felt compelled to write a review. My first impressions of this new speaker were, "Wow! This is some really rich, full, clear sound" and it doesn't distort at higher levels. First off the speaker has very good clean sound and is very easy to setup. The bass is very good. It hits all but the lowest of bass notes and sounds very good doing it. When describing the sound coming out of this speaker I think you really need to compare it to a wedding dj or something to that effect. This speaker has a wall of sound that can fill an entire house or a large banquet hall room. This speaker is overkill for a bedroom size room . But don't let that stop you from buying it because it's still gonna sound incredible. The volume level out of this speaker we've experienced changes based on the bluetooth phone you use to play music on. My daughter has a Samsung J7 and it will sound very very loud but not painful to the ears at the highest setting but my nexus 6 will provide it with a ton more volume. Even at half way on my nexus 6 the speaker is incredibly loud and about 65% on my nexus is about 100% on my daughters Samsung J7. I'm not sure why that is but I guess each phone has it's quirks. Once you are connected via Bluetooth your phone controls the volume of the device. It's not like it has two levels and you can turn it full blast on your phone and then raise it more using the remote it came with. It took a bit to figure out how to change the input to a line in but it's very easy, you just hit the pairing button and it will cycle the inputs between bluetooth, usb and line in. It does not come with a line in cable. Overall this speaker is amazing. My brother in law has one of those more expensive branded speakers and I've always wanted to get that quality of sound but without spending $500 +. We bought my daughter a Monster Rocking Roller a few years back so she could take it outside when she hangs with her friends and while that was a decent speaker it doesn't hold a candle to the Sony. The Sony is in the same league as $500 speakers of that other brand but with way more bass. I believe anyone that spends the $200 on this speaker will be more than impressed. The light feature are neat, my daughter likes them. But after syncing with the app we wish they had more options for different patterns. I just leave it on the Chill setting all the time. One really neat feature is after your initial setup If your phone has NFC like my nexus 6 you can pretty much just touch it to the NFC area and it will configure the bluetooth for you. Why that is important is both my daughter and i use the speaker so when she walks away I can easily sync my phone without ever accessing the bluetooth settings. It's so cool. The only issues we had were getting the Songpal app to recognize the speaker. You see I synced my phone before I had the app installed and for some reason you will have to disconnect the bluetooth and sync it through the app. After that it will detect the speaker and you will have access to the equalizer and the illumination settings. The other issue was in certain songs I would hear a buzzing vibration in a deeper bass area of the song. At first i thought we had a defective speaker but after further review it was vibrating not only my tv but decoration on the wall. So the bass is pretty darn good if you ask me to do that. That's pretty much it, if you came here looking to buy this speaker don't wait another second and go and do it. It's worth it and then some. Buy two if you can afford it. The sound will blow you away!

    From an Audiophile/Entertainer Perspective

I've been living with these speakers (I have two) for about 2 months at this point, and they're just okay. Yes, every time I have my friends over, they're amazed with how insanely loud they can get and love watching the cool lighting effects, but as an audiophile, I'm not impressed. There's no way to fine tune the sound. The app (that you must download in order to use bluetooth with the speaker) offers little help. There's a bass boosting option that comes as the default for the speakers out of the box, but without the "bass boost" the speakers sound shallow and bland. So basically, you have to keep their bass boosting option on. There's a few other presets they have in the app for different types of music, but they offer minimal help. As I mentioned, I have two of these speakers, and I was more impressed with them when I only had one. When you connect another speaker to your original one using their party chain feature, it no longer allows you to connect the new speaker to you phone, which means that you can't control it from the app. The only way to control your second speaker is through the remote they give you. The only time this really becomes a problem is when you play around with the lighting features (which are pretty cool). There's only two different lighting presets on the remote, but within the app, there are many more. Another thing to note. The second speaker will occasionally go out of sync with the first one, which means you'll have to reset the party chain function and re connect them. Not hard, just annoying. Now for the good: They are incredibly loud. If you host parties in your home, even one of these speakers will light up your entire house with noise. Even while staying at a high volume, they still sound very nice. They also have built in lighting features that you can change within your app that can really enhance the mood that you are trying to convey. Overall: Originally, I was very pleased with my purchase of my first speaker. For $350, it's a pretty nifty speaker that will definitely impress your friends. If I still had just one, I probably would've given this speaker 4 stars. However, if you're looking at buying more than one, you might want to look elsewhere. The functionality of more than one just causes too many problems for me to give both of them 4 stars. Luckily, I got both of these on sale for only $279 each. If I had spent $700 on them, I would be quite upset. But for around $550, I guess they're not too bad. Definitely a cool edition to your man cave. Would still recommend to a friend, but ONLY IF they're only buying one.

When I recently went to Best Buy I was looking for a somewhat portable speaker that I could take outside or bring with and use at parties. The customer service kept try to push me for smaller speakers with good sound and battery backup in order to use even when no electrical outlets were available. The problem is the smaller speakers were very limited in how loud they could get making them not very ideal for large gatherings. I would be able to hear them when outside mowing lawn either. As it was I almost bought a harmon kardon portable speaker that had a five hour battery life and very nice sound along with surprisingly deep bass for a small speaker. As I was walking up to the checkout line to pay for this speaker I walked by something else that caught my eye immediately. It was a large Sony boombox speaker surrounded by really cool lights. After checking this speaker out I was very impressed. It has two sub-woofers, four tweeters, great sound, Bluetooth or auxiliary connections, amazing party lights built in that change color along with strobe lights on handles, and while speaker is fairly large it is not too heavy and has two handle on either end for lifting and carrying it easily. This speaker can also accept a USB or flash-drive to play music. I also like that the top of speaker has a long recessed slot with rubber bumper to hold phone, iPod, or tablets secure. Another cool find was the app you can upload to device Song-pal. Song-pal makes it easy to select which music app on your phone you want to play and allows you to have complete remote control over speaker from phone. And if the Fiestable app by Sony is also uploaded from playstore it has an illumination function to the Songpal app so that you can change the light settings to fit your mood, music, or just to amaze your party quests. Two Cons are this speakers lack of batttery meaning it only works plugged in and it does not have the newest Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. I also find the music quality fluctuates when running on Bluetooth depending on the quality of original song upload on your device. Of course hooking up via auxiliary cable, RCA jack, or USB will eliminate all of that. Despite this I absolutely have no complaints. This speaker is more that I was expecting to find and absolutely love it. Everyone who sees it tells me they want one. Thank you Sony for another cool product and thanks to Best Buy sales associate for helping me find just what I needed to make my party perfect.

Purchased the speaker last night after a brief demo at the store. Speaker sounds good for what it does (semi portable) and is rather flexible as to what you plug into it. Bluetooth for (smart) phones, tablets and the like, line inputs for hooking up to an audio device (in my case, a USB DJ controller), or audio form a TV. And a usb input for hooking up to a USB stick (manual says MP3 and WMA only with the stick. If the speaker supported FLAC, that would be awesome. Another thing I wish Sony would have done was to allow a custom EQ curve instead of pre set choices. Sound level wise, this thing can get pretty loud. If you have close neighbors, you will get complaints if you crank it up (esp. if the neighbors don't like your music, lol). The manual states 130 watts RMS per channel @3 ohms with 1% THD at 130 watts. I'm guessing the amp is class D or something similar. Even without "extra bass" switched on, it puts out decent bass. Switching on extra bass seems to boost the low end around 45-60 Hz. I only have one speaker so I cannot test the "party chain" feature which allows you to daisy chain the speaker. There is an app called "Songpal" that allows additional features not found on the remote, like the sound presets. Two of these speakers hooked to a DJ controller would make for a nice house party. If you want louder, get some big PA speakers. :) It would be a treat if Sony would make a 12" subwoofer that looks and behaves like this speaker and it would make a killer setup! As for the "portability" of this speaker, it's rather heavy and it does require AC power so it's not truly portable. A truly portable powered speaker would contain batteries. I rated this 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one star because of the lack of ability to set a custom EQ curve.

I purchased this product on recommendation from one of the employees at Best Buy. I had done some research before I bought it, and was fairly confident as I was leaving the store with it. When I got home, I got it up and running and it was definitely one of the coolest speakers I've seen. The changing colors were pretty mesmerizing and looked slick in the process. Unfortunately, it didn't distract from the fact the sound quality was sub-par. I had previously dabbled in other home audio systems like the Bose Soundtouch and Sonos PLAY series. In comparison, the sound quality on the Sony was clearly no match for either system, with myself having owned both. I also consider myself an Audiophile, and wouldn't play anything other than Lossless FLAC files on these devices. With that being said, I'd definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a party-pleaser. It definitely has the sound output, and the color show is really nice. But don't buy this is if you want quality sound. It does sound good, but as I stated earlier, it's not nearly as good a quality as a Soundtouch or PLAY. If you haven't heard either, I recommend you check them out in your local Best Buy store. You can definitely hear the difference. Overall, I'll give this speaker a 4 out of 5. It does everything very well with the exception of the quality you get, but again, I purchased this for listening and not parties. And if I did have a party, this would definitely be my go-to.

I purchased the Sony - XB7 Extra Bass Audio System after looking at it carefully in the store. It looked really nice and had many great features that I liked such as: fully controllable strobe lights and color-changing LED lights, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. However, when I brought it home and turned it on, I began to fully-understand that this was an exceptional-sounding speaker with unusual versatility. This is a powerful speaker with huge sound! It looks great, sounds great, and has plenty of power to fill large indoor or outdoor areas with rich sound and lots of bass. In fact, after listening and understanding that these speakers can be wirelessly connected to a second speaker to REALLY fill any area with sound, I went back to Best Buy and bought the second speaker. They can be connected in any way you might want, such as left and right channels, or both channels coming from each speaker, all very easily with the simple push of a button on the back of the master speaker. If you might want even more that two speakers they can also be chained together in multiple combinations with RCA cables. Needless to say, I am very pleased with my purchase(s) and highly recommend them to anyone wanting beautiful, room-filling, full-range sound. These speakers are really powerful so they must be plugged-in, as they would exhaust a battery too quickly. Buy one (or two) and they will create at party every time you turn them on...

An Odd Piece of Equipment, Perfect for Me

I purchased this solely for use when my family is using our Epson HD 2045 LCD Projector outside for moving night in the backyard. I'm using a Roku streaming stick in the HDMI port of the projector, and needed something with minimal cords to play movie soundtracks for a group of folks in lawn chairs. This thing has 450 watts of outdoor home theatre pumping sound! The Bose Soundlink 30 was taken back due to price for value, not loud enough, not enough bass as well as it didn't work with Windows 10 PC's. My setup is a 3.5 mm audio cable, 20' coiled from Best Buy, out from the LCD projector into the RCA plugs on the Sony speaker, and we should be set. Plan to have an entire weekend of Clint Eastwood films on a 120" screen while a campfire is burning on the shores of Table Rock Lake. For those above 40, don't be scared of the flashing LED's and strobe features of this speaker system, it can be switched off with the free smart phone Sony app.

This particular boombox in my opinion is quite impressive, especially considering the price at the time of purchase ($199.99). I went to Best Buy originally to just browse around for something I could listen to at work when I noticed this beast. I stood there for a minute looking it over until a sales associate walked over, he started to explain all the features but I just wanted to hear this behemoth. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or just by accident but when he connected his phone via Bluetooth this thing came ALIVE.....everyone in the store was looking at us......it was LOUD and at the same time impressive. Had great clarity and good bass, I had to have it !!!!! The playstore app. is ok but I added Bass EQ Pro from there also and you can get ALL the low end you'll ever need. The lighting was just a bonus for me, I loved the sound and the power behind it.....and for the price I couldn't leave without it.
