This is a really, really good phone. I upgraded from the XA1 when this guy launched and have been very pleased. The most-notable improvements have been to battery life and screen resolution. The 1080p screen is much better than the previous generation's 720p. It also has a built in options for saturation, so you can have a bit more contrast in your colors without having an OLED screen (which, I will say I still miss from my Lumia 928). The battery life saw a pretty major improvement, as I can still go a full day plus without having to charge even after 8 months. The phone is fast and has plenty of RAM to do everything I need it to (granted, I don't play pubg mobile). The camera is just as good as the previous generation and the added options to it help out. I will say that low-light perfromance on the front camera is lacking. The sound is a bit quieter on my device (though that just might be my model) which does bug me a bit. I used 2 different launchers upon first using this phone. The stock sony launcher doesn't have too much different from stock android, but has support for live wallpapers natively (always a nice touch). It's also lightweight and feels good to use. I still stick with my mainstay of the Microsoft Launcher now, but the default UI is good. Overall, my complaints for this phone (mostly the lack of an OLED display and the quieter sound) are either out of the realm of the price-point or could be a slight error in manufacturing and don't really effect the overall experience. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any other questions about my personal experience with this phone.

    Good so far

I had extremely high expectations for the camera considering Sony has some very nice DSLR's out. So far, I am a tiny bit let down on just the camera for SOME of its abilities (again, super high expectations). I feel like the "build quality" is probably superb on every part of this phone however as far as the camera's ability to "focus" (the lens) I did expect more. My last Blu phone took incredibly sharp extreme close-up images at a lower resolution yet they look like higher resolution. Yes, this Sony can take better looking overall pictures especially for mid-range focal distances but for close-ups and extreme distances, I feel like it falls just a little short. Remember though, its a phone, not a DSLR. As for everything else, so far it seems to be wonderful. I can forgive them on the extreme close-ups (Macro Lens Capability) as long as this phone is still working in 2 years from now (hopefully 3). I would say I would rather have this phone than an iphone and most Samsungs. I just may end up needing to buy a really nice camera. Overall: yes worth it. Definitely worth it. Its a solid phone that does NOT feel cheap. It has very clear audio and an amazing screen. I dropped it on pavement and the paint on the corners chipped.. so I immediately wrapped it in full armor and 9H glass. The scratches are not visible and this phone is looking amazing again with a perfect screen. I have many very good experiences with Sony products - particularly when it comes to their reliability.

    Excellent phone for the price

I switched from another brand's flagship to this mid-range because of issues. Calls are very clear on both ends. I was concerned that the snapdragon 630 and 3gb ram would feel sluggish compared to the 820 with 4gb ram I had previously. However, everything that I have done on this phone as fast, if not faster than on my previous phone. I went from a 4k display to this one (HD), and I don't notice the difference. Note that I do not play games on the phone. I'm sure it would handle all games except for the most graphic/cpu intensive ones. This phone is thicker than others, but it doesn't impact use, and feels sturdy in your hand. I actually prefer it to some thinner phones. The camera is great in bright-light situations, but let's face it, no phone is going to be excellent in low-light. The dedicated camera button can be half-pressed to focus, a feature very appreciated. For the price, you cannot beat this phone. NFC and headphone jack are a nice bonus. I am very happy some Sony phones can now be used on Verizon. I am under 30 and work in IT, this is an excellent product.

    Bang for buck

I got this phone on Verizon, switched from a iPhone 6s, and I don't regret it at all. This phone is extremely well built (I expect nothing less from Sony.) Overall this feels like a $500+ phone that costs around $300. The features are great with the main draw back being the finger print scanner. The screen and touches respond extremely quick and the 1080 HD screen is the best I've seen on a phone. The battery life is actually amazing. Can go all day long and probably longer on a single charge. The looks and build materials make me think this is not just any ordinary $300 phone but a expensive luxury phone. The Verizon service works like a dream although you have to wait for all the updates when you unbox the phone, but really worth the wait. Sony continues to provide great quality products and I really wish their phones we're more popular.

    Great (for the price point)

It was originally worse than expected, until I realized that I was coming from a high-end smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S8 - which had ended up breaking). Once I really realized that factor, I lowered my standards... but luckily I didn't need to lower them too much. Regarding the main selling point of this phone: the camera. While sounded amazing at 23MP, it is noticeably blurry when up close or zoomed in. However, the picture is still HUGE in terms of pixels. So, I guess it is still an amazing camera for a low/mid-range device. The battery is one thing I will definitely commend, it lasts more than all day, even after about a month of heavy daily use. Also, the speed on some of the heavier apps can definitely lag (one example being the photo editing app, PicsArt, which I use frequently). Overall, just a good, respectable phone for the price.

Too bad not a reliable phone

Overall this is a very nice looking phone, a little thick but a good trade off for the battery life. Specs, camera, screen are all great for the price. For the price point not going to find a nicer looking or spec'd phone, however it is unreliable for receiving phone calls. Every few days I would have a call that never rings or shows up in the dialer. Only way I knew had a call is people calling me let me know or just by getting a voicemail. Thought this might be a carrier issue, took to Tmobile, all settings correct yet they got me a new SIM anyway. STill issues. Ok, thought had to be the phone and I really liked so exchanged it for another. This time did not install any other launchers etc to make sure that was not an issue. After a week had 2 more calls not come through, had SMS app lock on me a few times so I just gave up on it. Same sim card works fine in an Iphone SE and a cheapo MotoG5plus. Too bad as I liked the "not" phone.

    Another great Sony product

Dont think I will ever buy another phone that is not Sony. Bought this after my Sony z3v battery was dying(had that for 6 years w no issues). Easy to use, little bit of a set up issue w Bestbuy as not all phones are carrier capable(Verizon, at&t, sprint) etc. I had to show them that on Sony site, that this one is Verizon certified. I would give this a 4 1/2 rating if I could. A few things missing from last phone that I liked(signature in text setting missing, ps4 screen capable and waterproof). All not major things but the little things in a lack of options for phones available makes a difference. Other than that...this phone is great just like my last one.

    Solid phone for the money.

There are three things I must have in a cell phone (besides being able to make phone calls, of course). Good battery life, a good camera, and speaker loudness. All three are a plus on this phone. Battery lasts more than a day (compared to a couple of hours on my LG G5). Camera wasn't all that impressive at first -- read some reviews, downloaded the Open Camera app and I am well pleased with the pics now. Finally, the speaker is loud enough to hear in my car. No issues with phone call quality or sending/receiving/texts. I have noticed a occasional lag in some apps, but not a deal killer. Wish it had Wi-Fi calling on T-Mobile, though. Limited cases and screen protectors, though the case BB sells is good.
