Great case for protecting my phone

So, I must start with that I have used Speck cases for my iPhone so that they are protected from drops since the iPhone 3. I really love the colors on the Speck cases and was a bit sad that there were so few options at Best Buy on release day but I guess that should be accepted since the Apple store had NO covers on release day. Honestly, I never pay full price for my Speck cases, I always get them with a coupon or on sale but with the phone being brand new and no one having cases, I conceded. I will say that although I do not like to pay full price, I am more than willing to as it protects my phone. On to the review, I ended up getting the white and charcoal grey cover which looks amazing on my black iPhone, it really fits it well. The cover is a perfect fit for it and with the new design of the phone, it fits awesome in my hand. I saw that on the Speck site there were more colors available but in Best Buy store not quite yet. I LOVE the Speck cases and how well they protect the phone if a drop happens. They also have a great silicone lip on the top which makes it so that your phone screen does not touch surfaces and helps safe it from scratches (I also have a Zagg smudge proof screen cover on it). Another thing that I really like about the white cover is that it will show scratches much less than the other colors I have had. So you should know if you have any other color besides white, it will start showing scratches on the back cover almost immediately but it will protect your iPhone phenomenally. In regards to Speck products and this cover, I do really love them and think they are worth the money even full price. I will continue to buy them and have them protect my phone from damage.

This case after tax is close to $40 and for that price you could spend a little bit more and get an Otterbox case or something much better than this. I bought the case on September 21st, the day the iPhone 5 came out and after two weeks it was already showing extensive scratching and discoloration to the sides and back of the case, as just about everyone else has stated. The worst part is that the rubber that is used on the side trim and top and side buttons was already starting to peel away and I have not dropped the case or mistreated it in any way as I take care of my possessions. I figure that if I'm spending $40 for a case that it would at least hold up for longer than 2 weeks. I'm not exactly sure what the others are talking about in terms of the lightning port not working when the case is on the phone or the earbuds not plugging in either because mine never had an issue like that. All in all the case is a snug fit, almost too tight, that's what she said! But in all seriousness the phone is actually somewhat difficult to get out of the case because it is such a tight fit. The case looks nice when brand new and like it's going to be a quality product but after taking the phone in and out of your pocket a couple dozen times it already shows a good amount of wear and tear. They should do away with the cheap rubber that they use on the buttons and sides and use something a little nicer with better longevity, especially after paying $40 for the case. I wouldn't recommend buying the case after the experience I had, I took mine back and bought the same version of the case that I had for my iPhone 4 for $17.50, which fits the iPhone 5. It's the Speck pixelskin hd case in black and it comes with a free screen protector. Happy hunting to all!

Between OtterBox's Doomsday Preppers' heavy duty style and Speck non-intrusive yet simple design, I chose Speck even though it has relatively minimal protection for the screen. I don't find OtterBox's design necessary for my lifestyle. I tend to be careful with my phone and not clumsy about dropping it. Also I don't like my phone and its case look like they are about to burst out of my pant pocket. The exterior hard shell feel solid although I don't wish to find out the hard way that it isn't so I will just trust the manufacture's claim. The interior soft lining, for what it is claimed to do: absorbing shock, makes sense to me. Although when I put the phone in my work pants' pocket, the pant button tends to rub on the exposed soft lining, causing it to be worn down slightly. The reason for that is because iPhone 5 is longer than previous generations therefore it sits taller in the pocket. I simply removed the pant button to solve the problem. Whether I would buy a screen shield or not (I did buy a smudge-free shield) I would still buy this Speck case for my phone. If you are overly clumsy or just simply don't trust a shell with such low profile, get an OtterBox.

      Scratches far, far too easily

True, the main purpose of a case like this is to protect the phone, and this one seems to do ok at that. It's got a nice, rubbery interior section where the phone fits snugly, and a harder outside shell. I imagine it would do well against drops. However, the mere act of setting the phone on the desk should not result in a case covered in scuffs and scratches. I haven't dropped this phone, nor has it been in any potentially harsh location (laptop bag, rough surface, pocket with keys, etc). I take good care of this stuff, whether in a case or not. Yet in less than 2 days, the case is covered in horrible scratches and scuffs. Yes, the case is primarily for protecting what's inside, but for what this costs, you want it to look halfway decent, too. And this one does...until you take it out of the package.

I got the iPhone 5 on launch day from Verizon and I knew that I needed a case for it ASAP. I went to Best Buy because I knew they'd probably have better prices and a better selection than Verizon. I don't like the huge Otterbox cases but I figured the phone needed something more than the silicon cases so I decided to get this case. I got the grey with the pink soft inside. It works great and definitely keeps my phone protected. Like the other review says there is a lip around the top so that if you set the case upside down the screen never touches the table or whatever surface you set it down on. The only issue I have a problem with is that it's very difficult to get your phone out. I almost feel like I might snap the phone in half trying to get it out. I guess that's good since it won't come out if it gets dropped but I don't know. Just makes me nervous every time I have to take it out. I would definitely recommend this case though. I do kind of wish I had a slider case though.

This was the first case I bought the same day I bought my iPhone 5, and I purchased it on the recommendation of the salesperson. I've bought a few other cases since then, and while this one isn't my favorite (so far that would be the Switcheasy Tones case), it certainly does the job. The case protects the phone VERY well, and the button covers are the most functional of any of the cases I have. My complaints are relatively minor. The plastic exterior scratches VERY easily, and you won't have it a day before it is scratched pretty much everywhere. Of course, the good news is that the scratches are on the case and not your phone. I have other plastic cases whose glossy finish seems much more durable, and I wish Speck would try a different material. The case also bulks up the slim design of the phone--pretty much a necessity if you are going to have this much shock protection. Which case I use depends on which pouch I am carrying the phone in--this one is just fine with one of mine, but too bulky for the other. I do like the color combos that Speck offers. Oh, and for anyone wondering, this case works just fine with the Spigen Glas.tr screen protector.

This case is a good tight fit for my iPhone 5s. The outer shell is sturdy but is a little slick on the hands especially if they are sweaty or wet. In that case you may want the Speck grip case. I'm constantly sliding in and out of front pocket so I got this one because I thought the grip case would hang up or wear rubber pieces off. The Mute switch is easy to use due to large opening and the charge port opening is large enough to use the two aftermarket charger cords I have so no need to remove case or having to use Apple cord like I had to do with my old LIFEPROOF CASE. The speaker and microphone don't have openings but many small holes in case over them. No problems with people hearing me during calls like with the LIFEPROOF. The iPhone 6 version of this case however has openings over the speaker and mic. The camera and flash opening is large and surrounded by black ring to prevent flash reflection during pics. It's a good case for the $18.00 I spent. If the outer she'll was a little more grippy it would be better. Only negatives are that the case is a little slick in the hand and it gets and shows surface marks and scuffs pretty bad.

I really like speck cases - they've saved my phones (had one for my 4s as well) many times. The case is slim and sleek, so it does not really change the feel of my phone, which i appreciate (don't like cases that add bulk such that i can't even fit my phone in my small purse or pocket), but it protects very well at the same time and feels secure in hand (not slippery, etc.). The only two issues i have are the size of the opening for the charger, and the durability over time of certain areas on the case. The small charger opening is probably great for protecting the phone and keeping debris out, but i can't fit my car charger in the opening (i have an apple adapter piece for a charger that was originally for my 4s), and have the same trouble with various docks. It does work fine with basic charger that comes with the iphone 5s. As for durability - the parts of the case that are just thin strips of plastic, like around the charger opening , will eventually wear down and crack (especially if you take the case off and put it back on often, which i prefer not to do anyway) - but i think that's just unavoidable with the design, and not a huge deal at this price point.
