    Great sound, comfort and features!

Amazing headphones. I've been looking around for the most comfortable wireless headphones and finally found them. I've tried many and since I wear glasses most of the time, I'm very picky. These guys are perfect, the clamp force and the fabric material (very breathable and not hot or sweaty at all) and the softness of the pads are great for my glasses (now, imagine how comfy they are, even more if you don't wear glasses like me). Now the features, this guys pack a punch, in terms of compatibility, since its the X version, they can work wirelessly with an Xbox, also PlayStation (I think the only con here if you don't get game/chat audio mix wirelessly) and PC via their type C wireless dongle. They also include a TRRS analog cable, because you can also use this guy that way plugin it in with any device that supports a TRRS connection, speak of options! They include a charging cable, but also an extension cable, where one end is a female type C port, which will serve as extension, or free up other ports (because the dongle is T shaped, if you plug it directly to your device, it may block other ports, so that female cable is appreciated). On Xbox and PC it supports game/chat level mix and it has a dedicated physical button (this is a must for me and I think for anyone that plays online with friends, this lets you tune the level of the game volume and of your friends on chat, we all know and have those friends that yell on chat and with this feature you can tune the game and chat volume level). Even if you are going to only use them on your console, I highly recommend you plug them from time to time to your PC and open their SteelSeries GG windows app and see if there are firmware updates for the dongle and the headset, these solve bugs and introduce features. There was one for me (I mainly play on PC) and it was a lengthy one. Once the firmware update was done I could use them right away. On the GG engine part, you can set EQ, mic side tone level, choose a higher volume limiter (I found not necessary to turn off the limiter, doing so introduces higher volume but with hiss/noise, they were plenty super loud with the limiter on) and tune your Bluetooth settings (if Bluetooth is on when you turn on the headphones or not i.e.). If you are on PC, you want to use Sonar to tune most things so you must set al the EQ on GG engine as flat. Sound quality was great and I saw on windows settings that these are capable of 24 bit 48khz audio quality (Sonar lies saying they are Hi-res 24 bit 96khz, but they are not, that's what Sonar is trying to output and up processing maybe, but hardware wise, per Windows settings, they are only capable of 24 bit 48khz, which is plenty, the human ear can't tell the difference anymore than 16 bit 48khz anyways). You can use Bluetooth simultaneously with your games (however you can only control the volume of your Bluetooth device at the source level, the volume controls on the headphones are for your game). Battery life is simply amazing, I have gamed all weekend long on a just one charge and they kept going, finally left them charging Sunday nigh. Sound quality is amazing and Sonar has tons of EQ presets on the PC for tons of games, and also, if you pair them with their phone app, YOU CAN FINALLY HAVE EQ PRESETS ON CONSOLE!!!, finally CONSOLE players can experience the goodness of Sonar. I mainly play Rainbow six Siege on PC and I can hear every single detail, positioning and most importantly FOOTSTEPS. If you are looking for great comfort (specially for glasses), with great sound quality, simultaneous Bluetooth, these are the ones for you!

    High Quality Midrange Headset

My experience using the Arctis Nova 7X for me has been nearly faultless. Knowing this isn’t the highest-end offering in Steelseries’ lineup, I was expecting compromises, but it mostly nails everything it does. The build quality is one of the best I’ve seen from any gaming headset I’ve used, the sound and microphone are both great, and the battery life is long. It also has wide compatibility with PC and console, as well as simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity. In this price range, I don’t think I could really ask for much more and I’m really glad I have this now. What I noticed right away unboxing the 7X was the build and quality of materials. The metal headband feels durable but flexible and the elastic fabric piece feels smooth and soft. The earpads are likewise very soft and feel great against my head. The rest of the headset is plastic, but it’s got a soft touch to it that feels nice. Everything just feels like it’s a step above other headsets I’ve used. The fit can be adjusted by pulling the arms in and out the headband. The elastic headband piece can also be adjusted for a tighter fit if needed. It fits my large head well, though the clamping force is just a bit too light and I find they have a tendency to slide off of my head if I lean back. The earcups do rotate and fold flat. They also have removable magnetic plates and Steelseries offers some color and themed options you can buy for a little bit of personalization. The 7X has controls on both sides of the headset, with volume and mic mute controls on the left earcups and game/chat balance and power/Bluetooth buttons on the right side of it. Both the volume and game/chat wheels feel pretty good and the game/chat wheel has a small indent to let you know when you’ve reached the middle position. One minor complaint I do have is that having these controls on the smaller part of the earcups made them a little bit harder to feel out while I was wearing the headset, but I think it’s something I could get used to in time. The 2.4GHz dongle connects via USB-C, but there is also a USB-A to USB-C adapter cable for connecting to Xbox. The dongle has a switch for going between the Xbox audio mode and the standard USB mode used by PC, PlayStation, and Switch. Looking at photos of the other version of this headset, it’s clear that the Xbox version’s dongle is much larger compared to the other versions. When connecting this to something like a laptop, the dongle has a tendency to block adjacent ports just due to how wide it is. The USB-C connector is also directly in the middle of the dongle too, so it can’t really be positioned in a way that might prevent ports from being blocked. I have the Arctis GameBuds and I wish the 7X could have utilized that dongle as it pushes the USB-C connector to one side and is also much smaller. It also includes a USB-C to USB-A charging cable and a 3.5mm cable for wired audio. The 7X supports wireless audio over 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. It supports wired audio over 3.5mm, but not over USB-C. The headset comes pre-paired to the dongle. I started using it on my PC and installed the Steelseries GG software. I generally like the GG software and I think it’s laid out well. The ‘Engine’ section gives you the basic functions on the headset and lets you tune the EQ for both the audio and the microphone. There’s even EQ presets for most major games, which is a nice touch. Enabling Sonar opens up even more functionality and really lets you get specific with audio mixing from multiple sources, but I didn’t like that enabling it creates a bunch of virtual sound devices in the Windows control panel. For consoles, the Arctis Companion app for iPhone or Android gets you similar functionality that you get in the ‘Engine’ section of the GG software. EQ and other settings are saved directly to the headset, so you don’t need to have the software or app active. The volume wheel on the 7X, like other multiplatform headsets I've used, does not control system volume directly, so generally it's best to set the source volume at 100% and use the headset to adjust the volume from there. For my usage, I generally left both the audio and microphone EQs at their default flat settings. Generally I think these sound pretty great for gaming and they cover the lows, mids, and highs well. I've been playing a lot of horror games lately where audio cues are very important and I didn't find the 7X lacking at all. And the amount of control you get in the software means you can tune these to pretty much whatever you need them to be. Wireless audio gets loud enough that turning the wheel all the way up is uncomfortable, but in general I found myself leaving the wheel at around 80-90% and anything below that was too quiet. The headset can get louder when wired via the 3.5mm cable. There's no noise cancelling or transparency modes here, but the passive isolation is good for blocking out some background noise. 2.4GHz and Bluetooth audio can both be independently toggled using the respective power and Bluetooth buttons on the headset and, as advertised, 2.4GHz and Bluetooth audio can be heard simultaneously. The Bluetooth on the 7X is good, but it doesn't appear to support anything other than the standard SBC codec from what I could see. The microphone is retractable and has a lot of flexibility to get it adjusted exactly where I need it to be. It also has a red LED to let you know if it's muted or not. It’s been a while since my last Steelseries headset and I never considered the mics to be their strong suit, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this microphone. My voice comes through clear and natural and doesn’t sound compressed like some other headsets can. It does let a fair amount of background noise in, but this could likely be mitigated a bit in software. It’s not the absolute best headset microphone I’ve heard, but it’s very good. The battery life is rated at 50+ hours and so far that seems to be holding up based on the battery drain I've seen so far. You don't get the swappable batteries like the Nova Pro, but it should be good for at least a week of heavy gaming. Overall, I'm really happy with the Arctis Nova 7X. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I did and they tick just about every box for me at a good price.

The best headset you can buy at this price

We love this headset, we have a few gaming headsets and we always find the SteelSeries to be our favorite for various reasons. As far as comfort, these are exceptional. The clamping is just right not too tight and not too loose. The cups are padded and don’t make my ears hurt, they also don’t cause fatigue or heat. Both my wife and I share these and we both wear glasses and we have zero issues due to the just right clamping force. The mic is crisp and clear, whenever I get on the mic everyone hears me and not one person has complained about the mic quality Battery life is also another W for this headset. It’s one of the longer lasting headsets I own, I hate those headsets after one day of gaming you need to be charging. I can go for a week without needing to juice this up again The app is ok, I don’t use it a lot but it’s filled with presets so you get the best out of your gaming experience The fact you can use these with all devices is a major win. It’s great that I can go from my Xbox Series X and over to my PS5 Pro without needing a second headset is great. Overall I really like these, they’re classed as midrange but outperform many others at this price, the comfort is as good as any and the sound is great.
