    Synopsis

    Teen Wolf
After sitting on the shelf for some time, Teen Wolf was released on the heels of the hugely successful Back to the Future in an attempt to cash in on the huge popularity of star Michael J. Fox. Teen Wolf chronicles the plight of Fox as a small-town nerd who can't seem to score a basket on the court or a point with his dream girl. Things change, however, once he discovers his family's hereditary secret, lycanthrope. As he begins to look hairier and hairier, his team begins to win basketball games and his dream girl begins to show interest in his unusual talent. His story does not progress without complications, however. His best friend, an opportunistic weasel, begins to exploit him beyond his limits of toleration, and his dream girl is captive to the requisite bully boyfriend, who, of course, captains the arch-rival basketball team. And then, to top it all off, Fox's other best friend is in love with him. Unbelievably, this film was a box-office success and eventually inspired an even worse sequel, Teen Wolf Too, several years later -- a film which Fox wisely declined. ~ Jeremy Beday, Rovi

This movie is a classic. The Hollywood 80s teen genre movie machine pumped out a ton of classics like Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful, Say Anything, Back to the Future, Three Oclock High, Less Than Zero, Christine, Just One of the Guys, The Legend of Billie Jean, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Karate Kid, Better Off Dead, One Crazy Summer and of course this gem Teen Wolf. Some great, yet unsafe, modern traditions have survived from this classic film like "teen wolfing" a can of beer and car surfing. I especailly enjoyed the music in this movie and also the basketball coach, the quintessential 80s big dance, the Wolf sniffing out Style's lost stash in the garage, and the "give me a keg of beer" scenes. This is a gem you should have in your treasure chest of movies.

Michael J Fox will always be associated with the 80's for three reasons. He starred on a hit television series Family Ties, he wowed audiences in Back to the Future and then we have this cheeze fest called Teen Wolf. Watching this movie again brings back many memories of my youth and watching this flick on cable TV everytime it was aired. The cardboard acting of most of the cast, with exception to Fox and James Hampton who plays Mr. Howard, Teen Wolf feels more like a movie of the week then a feature film. Non-the-less all the cheeze is still intact as well as the corny humor that I still found myself laughing at. Now onto the important stuff, The HD debut of this lost 80's gem is not going to blow your mind. Their is the grain, their is the soft color pallet that well frankly serves the purpose of the plot and then the dull 2.0 DTS track, plus only a trailer and a preview of the in name only new MTV series Teen Wolf.

The content of this film holds up still today. This film adds to the catalog of Michael J. Fox and makes me nostalgic for that period in the 80's when he ruled the world. Technically is where this release fails. The video & the audio are woefully dull & uninspired. Being that this release is originally from 2011 it puts into perspective how far the transfer process has come in a short time and proves that studios are listening to fans. In my minds eye, I would rank the video somewhere between 720P & 1080P and it largely resembles a broadcast quality that you may come across on cable or satellite. Disc extras are very basic. My saving grace on this release is that I paid 7.99 for it and I do love the movie and wanted it in my collection. I hope that Metro will one day give it the transfer it deserves.

Before Spin City, Before Parkinsons, BEFORE Back to the Future, this is Micheal J Fox in what can really be considered his first big screen role. It was released AFTER BTTF simply to take advantage of that movies success. Its a fun, typically 80s comedy that combines Fast Times at Ridgemont High and American Werewolf in London. This is part of what made MJF one of the biggest stars for that time. For those of us who knew Michael from Family Ties, seeing Alex P Keaton turn into a Werewolf was fantastic!! Get it and watch this, Love at First Bite and Young Frankenstine back to back some Halloween!!(or if want to stay in the 80s, this movie, Lost Boys and THE BRIDE.......80s camp horror at its finest!

Teen wolf is one of those classic 80's movies that may not be high class cinema, but is definitely fun to watch. The Blu-ray presentation is good, and definitely the best it has been on a home video format. The sound is only 2 channel DTS-MA which leaves something to be desired, and there are virtually no extras for those who are into that sort of thing. If you like the film for it's 80's nostalgia, really it's a no-brainer to buy this BD.

Look, everyone seems to remember nothing but the Back to the Future Trilogy, but he did do other movies that are great, in my book. If you want an 80's movie that is still fun to watch today as it was when it came out, pick this up. Also, while you're at it, pick up Doc Hollywood and The Secret of My Success, and the Frighteners.

I was a big fan of this movie as a teenager. However, I quite disappointed in the treatment the blu-ray disc received. The sound was terrible. I had to increase the volume of my home theater quite a bit to hear the dialogue clearly. The picture wasn't much better either (often grainy at times).
