Epic, modern version of tetris
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is came from the maker of games like rez, lumines, and child of eden. They had been making an off-brand tetris for years with lumines, now it's like they just to actually do tetris in that same style. The visuals are wild, but you kind of can't watch them cos' you're trying to play tetris. if you can get someone to watch you to play tetris, this will definitely entertain. there is also some great music on here. by default the controller vibrates to the beat, but i actually had to turn that off after awhile, because some songs were too intense and i thought it would break the controller and some made my hands tickle. I switched the vibration to gameplay only, so it would only vibrate when i cleared some lines. anyway, if you like tetris you will like this game, if you hate tetris, you probably won't like this game. there is no multiplayer btw. this is classic tetris, while also something new at the same time. in journey mode, what the game describes as its "campaign", each of the levels evolve as you progress through them, trying to hit the goal of clearing 36 lines, while scoring as many extra points as possible. oftentimes in levels, you will reach a point that triggers lightning fast tetris. but, as you will find, the game kind of lets you play a different way when you encounter this... you can drag the piece around the floor and keep rotating it for quite some time. once you experience it, you'll know what i'm talking about, it's bizarre, and brilliant somehow. i'm not sure it was quite like that in any previous iteration of tetris, but i'm mostly familiar with the gameboy version. for fans of that version, there is a "secret" 1989 mode, while the look of it is pretty great, the sound seems to be purposely a little off, the music and sounds are similar, but altered versions of the originals. when the level progresses to it's final form, i'm not really a fan of their new version of the classic song. anyway, if you like tetris, and are thinking of getting this, you should probably get it. i don't have VR, so i dunno if that's good, but it probably is.

Tetris Evolved
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is Tetris like you've never seen before. Phenomenal visuals and a gorgeous soundtrack pair together to elevate this Tetris experience, making it a sensory feast. The main "campaign" takes you through a series of different levels, each with its own visual style and song that makes for a immersive journey. The speed of the blocks falling will change alongside the music and visuals, creating a captivating sync with your actions. This is a game where you'll want to turn off the lights and bask in the visuals. Purists will be happy to know that there are the regular modes that are focused on the pure Tetris experience, alongside options to tone down the effects and visuals of the game to make the blocks for clearly visible. Unfortunately, there is no splitscreen or multiplayer except for leaderboards and high scores. Oddly enough, there is an option to connect a second controller that vibrates on sync with the visuals and gameplay, allowing you to experience the gorgeous visuals with a friend. There is a wealth of content, challenges, and modes that will continually keep you entertained if you're even a slight fan of the Tetris gameplay loop. Even if you're not a huge fan, the visual and aural experience alone is worth the price of admission.

The ultimate Tetris game!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I played Tetris here and there growing up but not to much. I played this over a free weekend and it is incredible! I had to get the full game. There are so many different modes and challenges and the visuals are awesome! You can play relaxing modes and just chill or really put your skills to the test with some crazy fast Tetris. The PSVR is NOT required and it is still amazing without it, the only difference is it is a bit more immersive in the headset, since it is more 3D. Either way, get it!

Never gets old
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tetris will always be a great game with a formula that never needs to be changed, but Tetris Effect adds it's own elements that make it stand out from the many versions released in the past few decades. The music combined with the sound effects produced by the tetrominoes and visuals from the 20+ stages further draws players into the immersive and addicting world of Tetris. Along with the classic endless Tetris mode, the game includes a Journey mode for those seeking a sense of completion. This mode takes you through all the stages requiring players to clear a set number of lines at varying speeds, and when you run into trouble or want to set a higher score, players can activate the Zone meter to clear up to 16+ lines simultaneously. Tetris will be around for a long time and is available on almost any electronic device with a screen, but Tetris Effect emphatically places itself as the best version available now.

Pretty Rad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The game is worth the price. It takes tetris to a new level. The game has multiple modes and unlockable stages. If you played the ds game you will mostly find all those modes plus some other in this game. The HDR isn't out of this world, you can only turn it on or off and there is no adjustment sliders. The default is off and buried in the option menu, which I found odd. You might find the tetris playing field is to small, but you can use the right stick to adjust the size or look around the level. The vr option is a cool add on to the game and it should be played with it, but it still works great without it. The music is perfect and your button presses and beats to the music. It works in perfect harmony. It really does take tetris to the next level. It's a must buy for people that want to play a classic game and great showcase game for people who don't play videogames or vr.

An absolutely stunning experience in VR
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an avid Tetris player, and knowing the creator of REZ and Lumines worked on it, Tetris Effect by itself sold me on the PSVR, and I’m so glad it did. Aside from the “story mode” that will take you through each of the game’s enthralling and immersive visual experiences, there are a plethora of weekly challenges that will keep you coming back to this game on the regular. The soundtrack is killer, sporting tunes that you will most assuredly hear in your sleep and have stuck in your head for days. At the time of this review, Tetris 99 has since released and I’ve been enjoying that quite a bit, but I always find myself going back to Tetris Effect when I just want to relax, zone out, and make blocks disappear for hours on end.

Super fun version of a classic game
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review might be biased since I'm already a big Tetris fan, but I absolutely love what they did here. The controls and "feel" are very reactive and smooth - doesn't feel like a complete overhaul and redo of this game. The backgrounds and color are pleasant, and doesn't distract you from the game. The sound effects when you're doing well pump you up to keep going! Only messed around with the PSVR portion for a couple hours, but wow - was that amazing! I love the backgrounds in VR mode and just surrounding yourself with the Tetris stages was an experience in itself. Highly recommended for veterans and newbies alike!

TETRIS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in my mid 30s. I have been playing Tetris since I was a wee child and it was on the NES and Gameboy. There have been some good Tetris games since then, and some not so good Tetris games since then. This is probably the best since the ground-breaking original. It's like a rhythm game for people for people who are terrible at rhythm games but great at puzzle games. Not all of the levels are my taste in visuals and/or music, but there is enough variety that everyone should find something they really like.
