Mike Nichols' comedy The Birdcage comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Subtitles are available in all three of these languages as well. Supplemental materials include a theatrical trailer. This is a fine release of an entertaining film that will please most everybody, but thrill very few.

Robin Williams At His Best!
Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed.
Classic, hilarious film! An outstanding Robin Williams performance that you’ve gotta see if somehow you missed it. And at such a low price, this one is a steal. Wholeheartedly recommended.
This is probably one of my favorite movies made way before when mainstream movies of a gay lifestyle were shown on tv or movies.
I know it’s no longer correct for a straight man to portray as gay, but I think Robin did a great job. And Nathan Lane is an overlooked actor. He is simply sublime.
I still watch this movie and to have it as blu-ray is great.
This along with Too Wong Foo are both excellent movies made before the movie industry felt it was ok to have gay characters. I’m glad I can see them more prominent now, but back when this was released it was fabulous for me to see.
Miss Robin Williams!
This is a great movie when you need a good laugh. Robin Williams was such an incredible talented actor. He is greatly missed. Gene Hackman and all the other characters are so good. We Are Family regardless of our differences. There is always a way when we want to make a way out of being different. We don't get to pick our families sometimes but we can seek the best out of what we have been given.
What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said?
It is solidly acted. This is comedy tour de force. As mentioned before Hackman, Lane, & Azaria shine in their roles. Williams and Weist as the centers are also excellent. Flockhart and Futterman play their parts well as the annoying but can be at times. Honorable mention to Baranski.
I picked this up shortly before William's passing and it is a lasting tribute to him. For what it's worth, my favorite film that he is in.
The 1080P transfer is good for a catalog title but fuzzy in the finer details. Passable for a movie of this genre and timeframe.
The extras fall well short. Hopefully an anniversary edition in years to come could improve this.
That aside, if you are fan of this film it is great to have this on blu and this represents a nice addition to a collection.
Actually I borrowed this movie from the library to watch with my teenage kids. We are going to Miami this summer, and my kids love these kinds of movies, so I thought it would be fun to see together. Watching this movie brought back a lot of happy memories, I forgot how much fun this movie is! Even though this movie is 20+ years old, it is a timeless storyline. Sadly, the same social and political issues exist in 2018. Nevertheless, this movie entertains and doesn't feel dated at all. It is great to see Robin Williams again. If you fondly remember this movie from back then, it's a great one to have in your DVD library.
