    The Blind Side
Taken in by a well-to-do family and offered a second chance at life, a homeless teen grows to become the star athlete projected to be the first pick at the NFL draft in this sports-themed comedy drama inspired by author Michael Lewis' best-seller The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. Michael Oher was living on the streets when he was welcomed into the home of a conservative suburban family, but over time he matured into a talented athlete. As the NFL draft approaches, fans and sports radio personalities alike speculate that Oher will be the hottest pick of the year. Sandra Bullock stars in a film written and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Rookie, The Alamo). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Overrated Film

The Blind Side is a compilation of every overused, sappy movie stereotype, complete with unrealistic one-liners and music that swells in a last chance effort to save this film. Sandra Bullock delivers an overrated performance as Leigh Anne Touhy, the fiery head of the house. Bullock’s performance is indeed a memorable one, and one that has garnered her, her first Oscar win. However, even Bullock’s incredible improvement from her last movie debacle, All About Steve, was not great enough to save this poorly done should-have-been-made-for-TV movie. Were it not for some occasional humor and the clichéd slow close-ups done to evoke empathy from the audience, which I will admit worked on me on a few occasions, I would have walked out of this movie after the first long tedious hour of clichéd cheese. This movie’s biggest problem is an immense lack of conflict and struggle. This well-to-do family has taken in an impoverished black boy and teaches him, educates him, and then sends him off to college to play football. The end. No turmoil, no intense inner or outer forces fighting against their decision. Nothing terrible happens to these people. I know some people may think, “Well why would I want to see a movie where terrible things happen to good people?”, and this is true. However, why on earth would anyone pay to see a movie in which nothing whatsoever occurs? In which the good guys get what they want without any fight. Why root for the good guy, if they haven’t overcome something and pushed past adversity time and time again and have come out triumphant time and time again? The very small amount of conflict that does exist is over just as soon as it starts. In one scene, in which Leigh Anne tells her friends that Michael is changing her life, I nearly burst out laughing. At no point do we see the lives of the Touhy family change in any way. The saddest part about this film is that the main character, Michael Oher, becomes a minor character in the story of his life. The director, screenwriter, and everyone else on the creative team were so focused on Sandra Bullock, and the attention that the movie would gain from her name, that they completely neglected to find a way into the spirit and soul of Michael Oher. Unlike the movie Precious, that allows the audience to view the world through the eyes of this down-on-her-luck, impoverished teen and finds a unique and clever way to bridge a connection to her, we are never able to feel this connection to Oher because he is reduced to mere close up shots with the same sad, blank stares that possess no real meaning behind them and shows no development in him as a character. By the time you think to yourself, “Well, I wonder what Michael thinks about all of this”, he has been reduced to such low importance that one cannot truly honor the achievements he’s made because, by the end of the movie, we still do not know who this young man is. Overall, The Blind Side is a sentimental, clichéd, boring mess, that movie critic, A.O. Scott, best said “is full of a condescending vanity that it mistakes for compassion”.

Heart warming story well played by everybody

I love this story and movie, which was played very well by every character. Sandra Bullock is nice in this movie, but most amazing things were each family member showed compassion, love, kindness and tolerance. Simply one person could show heart warming attitude by herself, but without family member's support and cooperation, it would be difficult to keep acting as she likes. In this movie, husband, daughter and son, all of them showed generous, kind, compassionate attitude toward huge black boy, encouraged by mother Sandra Bullock. Boy was amazing. But I believe without husband's support and trust to his wife, mother Sandra could not have acted as she did in the movie. Usually In real life, it is difficult to act as mother Sandra acted in this movie. We have compassion, love, tolerance etc... but if we live with other family member, it would be difficult to act as we wish. I can think of other memorable, heart warming, beautiful real story told by Laura Schroff & Alex Tresniowski "An Invisible Thread". But she lived alone, so she could behave as she liked. So, important thing we learn in this movie is that this movie shows not only mother Sandra's great attitude, but also her family members' compassionate, kind, cooperative, understanding attitude. Without family member's cooperation and understanding, good will might have not grown beautiful as was shown in this movie. Anyway, this was truly heart warming, good movie and I wanted to keep it for myself.

Great movie! If I tell you my family and I have seen it at least a 100 times, I wouldn't be exaggerating in the least. Literally, we've watched it over and over since it's release. Sandra Bullock does not disappoint, as usual, and Tim McGraw ... well, heck, he just has to look good! The story is beautiful and inspiring. It's good to know that there are people in the world who just know how to do the right thing, even if there are people who would criticize them for it. I only wish there were this much acceptance for all races.

"The Blind Side" is the inspirational true story of Michael Oher, a black Memphis street kid without a family who is taken in and adopted by a wealthy Caucasian suburban family headed by Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. The boy stars in high school football and becomes heaviliy recruited by many major colleges.. The film displays love, compassion, caring, tenderness, survival, and toughness. It comes from the family, especially the mother who is played by Sandra Bullock in a great performance, and from Quinton Aaron playing Michael.

Excellent movie, actors make you love them

I saw this movie in the theater and will be picking it up today. It's a really great film. I watched a special (I believe it was a Barbara Walters special) about the real life people in the film and it seems that the actors hit their marks spot-on. This movie is uplifting and has a solid message to it. The fact that this story is based on real life events just makes it even that much better and worthwhile to watch. I don't think you can go wrong with adding this movie to your collection.

Great Movie. Can't believe what the guy below said

This movie is a true example of how we americans need to be! If more of us would take our focus off of "self", and help those around us who TRULY need help, we'd be far better off as a nation, a people, and a society. Sandra did a great job (as did all of the cast). I was challenged by this movie to open my eyes and see the needs of those around me, and put less emphasis on myself and more on others.

A terrific and well made movie! The best part is that it's based on a true story and the youngster is still playing in the NFL. Sandra Bullock once again delivers an excellent performance. The hardships the youngster had to go through and the ability of the family to reach out to this young man is heart warming. The movie is character driven. A good movie!
