Synopsis

The Cell
In this science fiction thriller, child psychiatrist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) has developed a technique that allows her to travel through the minds of her patients. When Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio), a multiple murderer who methodically drowns his victims and performs bizarre rituals with their bodies, falls into a coma, FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn) asks Deane to enter the killer's psyche, in the hope of finding a missing girl whom Stargher has kidnapped; if she's not soon found, in all likelihood she'll die in his torture cell. However, once Deane enters the bizarre world of Stargher's mind, she finds getting out to be a very difficult matter. The Cell was the first feature from director Tarsem, who previously made award-winning commercials and music videos, including the video for R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion." The supporting cast includes Catherine Sutherland, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dylan Baker, and Pruitt Taylor Vince. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

A decent film with some extraordinary visuals

Tarsem Singh has a made a career with some visually dazzling films. The first here, The Cell, is not nearly as good as his followup, The Fall, but is still interesting enough that it doesn't have to totally rely on those wonderful visuals. Basically two films at once, a detective story hunting down a serial killer and the other, a decent into the disturbing mind of that killer. The acting from some of the stars, Jennifer Lopez, and in particular, Vince Vaughn, often leaves a lot to be desired. However, Vincent D'Onofrio's terrifying villain picks up some of the slack. Most of these Canadian Alliance releases are sub-par, but thankfully, this disc isn't nearly as bad as most of the them. The video and audio could certainly be better, but both are still pretty good, and unlike some of their releases, this has the correct aspect ratio of 2:40:1. Extras, however, are non-existent.

First off not concerning the movie. Uh to the person who edited this site it's spelled cinematography not cinamatography(hope you don't take that as a spiteful remark)...Seriously people...Anyway the movie is great! It's an original story not a movie with recycled ideas. It is visually stunning without detracting from the actual plot. You really get a sense of what it would be like to go into someone else's mind, and you really feel suspense. And another thing you don't really feel cheated by the ending.. Well at least I didn't but I suppose some people will. A definite buy for ten dollars!

This is a fantastic film, one of my wife and I's favorite movies! The imagery in this film is spectacular! It has a very unique and indepth plot. There's a great cast including Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, MIB), who was amazing, Vince Vaughn (Clay Pigeons, Old School) is good as usual, and Jennifer Lopez (U-turn), who did suprisingly well, (her only good role, in my opinion). This is a geat edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller by director Tarsem Singh. I highly recommend it! Also, from Tarsem Singh is the epic film The Fall, which I also recommend.

There are very few films that Jennifer Lopez star in are good; this is one of them. The film has somewhat similar plot device of Inception where Lopez needs to find a missing person and the only way to do that is going into the killer's mind.

would give another half star if i could. Probably not for everyone but an interesting concept. Entering a serial killers mind to find a missing victim. It is a weird world but remember it is a serial killers mind.

Some of the scenes go too far in my opinion and are a bit disturbing but some of the visuals are astounding. Looks great on Blu-ray.
