Synopsis

Angels & Demons
Angels and Demons re-teams director Ron Howard and star Tom Hanks for the sequel to their international blockbuster adaptation of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code. Although the book Angels and Demons was written before the novel The Da Vinci Code, the movie transpires after the events of the earlier movie. Hanks stars as professor Robert Langdon, the most respected symbologist in the United States, who uses his knowledge in order to decode a symbol on the skin of a murder victim. The clues put him on the trail of an international conspiracy involving the Catholic Church. Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer also star in the Sony Pictures production. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

The Da Vinci Code
Dan Brown's controversial best-selling novel about a powerful secret that's been kept under wraps for thousands of years comes to the screen in this suspense thriller from director Ron Howard. The stately silence of Paris' Louvre museum is broken when one of the gallery's leading curators is found dead on the grounds, with strange symbols carved into his body and left around the spot where he died. Hoping to learn the significance of the symbols, police bring in Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), a gifted cryptographer who is also the victim's granddaughter. Needing help, Sophie calls on Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), a leading symbologist from the United States. As Sophie and Robert dig deeper into the case, they discover the victim's involvement in the Priory of Sion, a secret society whose members have been privy to forbidden knowledge dating back to the birth of Christianity. In their search, Sophie and Robert happen upon evidence that could lead to the final resting place of the Holy Grail, while members of the priory and an underground Catholic society known as Opus Dei give chase, determined to prevent them from sharing their greatest secrets with the world. Also starring Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, and Alfred Molina, The Da Vinci Code was shot on location in France and the United Kingdom; the Louvre allowed the producers to film at the famous museum, but scenes taking place at Westminster Abbey had to filmed elsewhere when church officials declined permission. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

These are some of Tom Hanks best roles. May even rank with Private Ryan. It also helps to have Tom Browns stories as the bases of the movies. Tom Hanks plays a symbologist, which is strange profession, but has landed him in Harvard as a professor. He is recommended to help interpret some symbols that are left on or burned into priests that are murdered because they are eligible to become the next cardinal. The stories move very fast and smooth as does Tom Brown's books. The stories have been written to keep the reader from putting the books down, and this goes with the movies that are hard to pull away from. The supporting casts are very strong, and are believable. Both movies were directed by Ron Howard at his best.

    Good Movies Horrible Formatting

This review is solely on the Product (dual movie blue ray), not on the movies themselves. This product was not formatted very well at all. In both movies there are subtitles for the French in Da Vinci and the Italian in Angels. The subtitles at the bottom of the screen in English are clipped off. So if there is one line of subtitles, the bottom of the words is missing. If there are 2 or more lines, the bottom row(s) are missing. This is faulty and should have never been released. I returned my copy, beware of this fault BEFORE you purchase... Please note, I did not turn on the subtitles for this film. The subtitles are IN the movie to translate the French/Italian into English...

ANGLES & DEMONS Is action packed film, with a new twist around every corner, is guaranteed to hold your attention and at the same time astonish you. Its’ triple-twist-ending will pleasantly surprise you and the adulation of the ending is emotionally satisfying. THE DA VINCI CODE’s Director practices with personification the art-form of combining story, action, a skilled-cast of actors, a perfectly tuned sound-track to each scene and fascinating sound-effects to tell a story in a grand, captivating and exciting manner. This movie is perhaps the finest suspense-thriller movie of all time!

The movies were not exactly what I expected. From the all of the commotion of people claiming it was movie supporting cult-ish tendencies; after having watched both films now I can say that is not what is in the films at all. They explore some cult-ish ideas confronting mainstream religions, but that is about it. They are great mystery stories. Aside from that, the features offered on the Blu-Ray were great. (Commentaries, Making of, lots of special features included) As with any Blu-Ray disc, the quality of the visual content is crisp, clear and full.

Beautifully filmed and looked gorgeous on my 4K upscale Blu-ray player and a 65 inch 4K TV. I have never read the book(s), but I've had heard about the movies when they came out. It was on sale at an incredible price so I had to get it. I watched the first one with a couple of friends, and we enjoyed it. Never heard Audrey Tautou speaking English before and thought she was charming. You have to pay attention and thus I'm happy to be able to watch this at home and was able to pause the movie when we needed to take a quick break.

In anticipation of the next adventure of Professor Langdon, I picked up this up to catch up on Davinci/A&D and was not disappointed. And for a great price of $9.99 it couldn't be beat. Davinci code was a great mystery but Angels & Demons had more action this was very true of the novels which spawned an entire genre called Historical fiction. Pick this up when you have a chance for the great price and it has tons of extras to explore more of the story behind the mystery.

Tom Hanks brings Dan Brown's Robert Langdon to life with his usual masterful performance. Yes, the movies do deviate from the books in some of the details, but this almost always the case, and the spirit of the books are there in both movies. What remains are thrill rides that will have you on the edge of your seats and leave you wanting more.

I always like getting double features on blu-ray. They may not have the extras that their singular packages get, but if you're not fully invested in the franchise and just want the movies then this is a good route. It does have some extras, thanks Ron Howard, which are appreciated and I enjoy the films.
