    Synopsis

    The Devil Wears Prada
Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a bright young woman from the Midwest who has just graduated from college and wants to work as a magazine writer. Andy has applied for a job at "Runway," America's most prestigious fashion journal; though Andy has little to no interest in the garment trade, they are one of the only magazines in New York with a job opening -- second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). As Andy quickly learns, Miranda is a diva with plenty of power within the magazine business and she isn't afraid to use it, and though Andy lands the job (primarily by being in the right place at the right time), she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint thanks to her endless demands and refusal to acknowledge the end of a work day. Andy struggles to hold on to the job and her sanity, knowing that a recommendation from Miranda can open nearly any door at any magazine, but can she handle the pressure without losing her mind along the way? The Devil Wears Prada also stars Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and Adrian Grenier. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This is a fun movie about life and working in the high-end NY fashion industry. It provides a unique glimpse into the world of fashion and its rather cruel politics. I love how Streep bluntly explains how surreal runway designs eventually end up in our own closets after mass production of those same styles, colors, and trends land on the racks at Macy's. Almost any girl will drool over the shoes, purses, scarves, skirts, jewelry and everything in-between that becomes a standard perk for Anne Hathaway at her first post-college job! Although it's a bit out of reach for the average graduate (okay, way), this movie creatively shows the reality of the consequences that come with our choices in life. Stanley Tucci is absolutely great to watch as the gay magazine fashionista who becomes a victim of the very politics he preaches. A perfect movie for girl's night and definitely worth making your boyfriend or husband watch so they can begin to understand why great clothes and shoes really do look and feel better. Cheap is just that.....cheap!

The Devil Wears Prada is a 2006 adaptation of the 2003 book of the same name. Meryl Streep is great as the demanding and rude, powerful fashion magazine editor who rules the company with an iron fist constantly using the threat of being fired by her as the way to get what she wants. In comes Anne Hathaway as her new assistant, who wants to use this job as a stepping stone in her career, and so she decides to put up with her boss for one year. The clashes in this comedy/drama are classically funny. With Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci the laughs keep coming throughout the film.

      Best "Chick Flick" I've Seen

Devil Wears Prada is an awesome, witty, funny, and stylish movie - if you have any interest in fashion you should have no trouble finding this entertaining. I haven't seen Anne Hathaway play a part quite this appealing since, and of course Meryl Streep steals the show with her hilarious "quietly threatening" mean boss portrayal. Emily Blunt is a riot as well, along with Stanley Tucci. The story is enjoyable but the look of the film is also stunning - the treatments of New York and Paris are very nicely done. I have a very short list of movies mostly for women that I think any guy should still enjoy, and this is definitely one of the best - you'll likely want to see it again, and maybe once more... then you'll find yourself buying a copy - for yourself, not your lady.

I knew the vague outline of this movie before I got it but mostly went in dark. My only quirk would really be the romance lines involved. Not giving away spoilers, I was disappointed in Hathaways characters decisions throughout. However I also feel like that was apart of the story and what made it so. Meryl Streep was amazing and nailed her role. I was very impressed and honestly mostly have rewatched it singularly for her. I'm not sure if she's a really good actress for this role or just naturally possesses the atmosphere and natural confidence her character needs but she does it phenomenally.

      The Title Says it All

As I have learned over the years, the fashion industry is very challenging and at times can be "cut throat." Meryl Streep did a superb job portraying a woman over a major fashion magazine who demands nothing but the best and sometimes demands too much for one to handle. It also plays on morals and values and doing what it takes to get ahead in the world. Sometimes those morals and values get lost when trying to achieve success and that's pretty much the story of Anne Hathaway's character. Even though this is not based on a true story, it definitely gives you a perspective of how the fashion industry can be at times.

It is a light-hearted comedy that is fun to watch, even if you aren't a chick. The actress is very attractive and pulls off the part surprisingly well. It is full of witty characters and sharp dialogue and a storyline that can appeal to the masses. Meryl Streep gives an amazing performance as the 'horrible boss.' The image and audio quality are nothing short of stunning. There are a few night scenes that have an inconsistent amount of grain or look washed out, but it is trivial at best. The Transfer is nothing short of amazing. It is still very close to reference quality.

When i saw this movie originally I thought it was a lot of fun. Didn't think twice about it until i caught it on a cable channel and it was all cut up. While watching the truncated version I remembered all the fun stuff I saw in the actual movie version i decided it was time to make a purchase. Considering how long ago this movie came out i was surprised to see not only how well this held up but how contemporary it is today. Glad I ran across a TV version so I could buy the copy at Best Buy.
