    Synopsis

    The Others
Spanish filmmaker Alejandro Amenabar's first English-language production is a creepy period ghost story that continues in the vein of his earlier art house hit Open Your Eyes (1997). Nicole Kidman stars as Grace, a devoutly religious mother of two ailing children who has moved with her family to a mansion on the English coast while awaiting her husband's return from World War II, though he has been declared missing. Their children, Anne (Alakina Mann) and Nicholas (James Bentley), both suffer from a rare photosensitivity disease that renders them extremely vulnerable to sunlight, prompting Grace's rule of having only one door open in the house at a time. When Anne begins claiming to see ghosts, Grace at first believes her newly arrived family of eccentric servants to be responsible, but chilling events and visions soon lead her to believe that something supernatural is indeed going on. The Others was released only a few months prior to Vanilla Sky (2001), the American remake of Alejandro's Open Your Eyes (1997), ironically starring Kidman's then-estranged husband Tom Cruise. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

      Amazing Ghost Story

Simply a superb old-fashioned ghost story that is always a joy to watch, thanks to Alejandro Amenabar's skill as both writer and director. It takes a few nods from Henry James' 'The Turn of the Screw' in it's tale of a mysterious house, two young children and the possible mental instability of their parent, alongside the presence of mysterious servants who seem to know more of the house than it's present owners, but it also goes in it's own direction, enabling the director to pull of a simple but highly effective twist at the end that's much more of an emotional payoff than simply showing off like some other 'twists' in lesser horror films. Absolutely and thoroughly recommended - If you liked 'The Haunting' (1963) and 'The Orphanage' then check this out, unless you like blood, gore and torture style horror, as there is none of that here.

The story is well written, it may seem a bit slow but that is exactly the element that contributes to the story. An old movie but unexpected ending. It will catch your attention from the beginning.

You can't go wrong with a 4.99 Blu-Ray deal of the day, more less with a good film with Nicole Kidman. Note: Be patient, starts slow-not much going on, but it gets good
