    The Perfect Host
A wanted criminal finds he's the one in danger when he hides out in the house of a seemingly ordinary man in this thriller from Australian director Nick Tomnay. John Taylor (Clayne Crawford) is a thief who is having an especially bad day; he was part of a bank robbery that went spectacularly wrong, leaving him with a seriously injured foot and his description being broadcast by every news outlet in the city. John needs to get off the streets fast, so he stops at a nearby home and bluffs his way inside, telling the man of the house, Warwick Wilson (David Hyde Pierce), that he's a friend of a friend and was told to drop by sometime. Warwick buys John's story, and even invites him to stay for dinner, but before long John realizes he picked the wrong house to pull this scam. Warwick is a perfect gentleman on the outside, but inside he's an angry and unstable person, and when he finds out that John isn't an ordinary visitor, he's in for a fight for his life. The Perfect Host was an official selection at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Brilliant twist on criminals and insanity!

The Perfect Host is a unique story that literally does twist all of your notions about who the real protagonist and antagonists are in this story. One minute, you are instantly hating the intruder, John Taylor (Clayne Crawford), and rooting for Warwick Wilson (played wonderfully by David Hyde-Pierce); and just when you feel comfortable with the interaction between the characters, Warwick starts to show his home invader a few 'crazy' secrets of his own. With his brutish behavior as a criminal, on the run from police, John holds Warwick a prisoner in his own home. Warwick does his best to 'accommodate' his captor...until Warwick's true personality emerges. It is only then that John realizes that HE has become the prisoner, and Warwick's night of fun has just begun. The home invading thief of John Taylor doesn't realize until it is too late that his folly was invading the house of someone secretly more 'disturbed' than him. One of the film's aspects that would normally concern you is the dominant use of one location (Warwick's home), and the fact that the cast is really just Warwick and John, with a handful of other actors and actresses flitting in and out, but just as the "Saw" franchise grabbed our attention with a main location and limited set of actors, The Perfect Host does an even better job of engulfing you in this twisted little world. Fans of thrillers and plot twists, as well as fans of David Hyde-Pierce and his most commonly known role as Niles Crane on "Frasier", will enjoy this screwy little mind bender that will leave you more than satisfied.

Film That Highlights The Adage Sometimes People Ar

I admit that I checked out the Perfect Host because the description was listed to pertain to dinner parties (the film was an unexpected find after looking up another celebrity who is affiliated with their own tv show and past talk show but is not on this movie). I definitely watched a movie that was different than expected but taught me quite a bit about imagination, story –telling, character profiles, and plot development. You have the character of John Taylor (played by Clayne Crawford) whose life dramatically changes when he decides to go into the house of Warwick Wilson (David Hyde Pierce) after only telling him part of the story on how he might have got there. Taylor realizes what he got himself into after some time at Wilson’s house. Wilson gives Taylor a strange wine that induces hallucinations and the ability to imagine whole scenes and people unexpectedly. Taylor’s memories of a woman who he fell in love with Simone Demarchi come into his mind (played by Magahn Perry). Warwick Wilson’s neighbor Cathy Knight (played by Helen Reddy) becomes concerned for what she hears next door but goes back to her house after Wilson uses his storytelling skills to explain away the moans and his dinner guest wearing a mask. Viewers are then eventually treated to the job where Wilson is actually employed at to where his coworkers (played by both Joseph Will and Nathaniel Parker) are unaware of Wilson’s double life persona.

      Deliciously dangerous.

I didn't know who to root for because who is the real bad guy? Like a car accident, it is hard to look away and the suspense is killer. I loved it and saw it 3 times. It is a spiral into madness and terror. Enjoy!
