Not bad, decent.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. It was entertaining, kinda slow though. Definitely need to watch with the subtitles on. Kinda hard to make out what they are saying. Great picture quality, and the story was creepy.

Wow! Just, Wow!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. One of the most underrated horror films of the last decade. Dark, desolate and emotionally unnerving. Beautifully shot and acted! This was the launching pad for Anya Taylor Joy and man did she deliver! Everyone in the cast absolutely nailed their performances! This film delivers on every level and leaves you feeling completely warped!

Good horror/folktale.
||Posted .I found "The Witch" to be a generally unnerving film, and one which--though I would not place it in the pantheon of scariest flicks I've ever seen--had some moments that I'll not easily forget. The atmosphere Eggers creates alone is enough to wrench serious dread from scenes other directors would be otherwise unable to make even remarkable. The score, too, helps cull this dark tone and adds life to a film that can be borderline tedious. That being said, "The Witch" is not for everyone. It is strange, slow but steady, gruesome at points, and almost un-watchable at others. There are two sides to this film; one which I had hoped the director would stick to concerning the family and their struggle with religion and isolation; and another which plays as an undercurrent to most of the film and then takes charge in the end. Sadly, it is this second side which keeps me from giving the film a better score, and that ultimately hurts the film in the very final scene. Overall, I enjoyed "The Witch" and its originality. Eggers has achieved a film that, for all its low-budget and independent film background, feels richer and better made than many horror entries of late. Should you decide to see it, a word of caution: do not expect a fast-paced movie full of jump scares and creepy crawlies emerging left and right. As the opening credits remind the audience, this is a folktale. One that does not shy away from exploring the real dark places.

The PQ is good, but uneven
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed.I was a huge fan of The VVitch when it came to theaters, but was very surprised when a 4K was announced. A small indie horror film getting the UHD treatment must've meant the demand for the new format was ramping up and people wanted to see Robert Eggers' film in all it's glory. And it does look better. Much, much better, but still there's some sort of issue with the HDR where it fluctuates in the middle of scenes that were more evenly lit. The Bluray never had this issue. I know because I popped the old disc in as soon as I finished watching this new 4k and did a side by side with another tv. This fluctuation only happens twice or so, but to someone who's watched the film as many times as I have, it was still very noticeable. Other than that minor issue. The new disc is definitely recommended.

Something ain’t right with that goat

A24
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. Not a film for everyone as is the case in any A24 film however worth a watch simply for the tone. Don't expect a mind blowing twist ending or a high octane action flick, this is definitely for those looking for something different from the usual
