    Synopsis

    Tron
One of the earliest feature films to reflect the video-game craze of the 1980s, Disney's Tron stars Jeff Bridges as computer programmer Kevin Flynn, who becomes part of the very game that he's programming. Flynn's principal antagonist is his glory-grabbing boss, Ed Dillinger (David Warner), who likewise metamorphoses into a video-game character. The title character, a computer-generated superhero, is played by Bruce Boxleitner. Though antiquated by 1990s standards, Tron represented the last word in special effects back in 1982. Surprisingly, despite its long-range influence on the movie industry, the film was a box-office disappointment when first released. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is one of my favorite movies and it's great to have it in High Defenition. Tron follows the adventures of Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges), a young programmer who gets pulled in to the Grid, an alternate reality that exists inside of computers. While in the Grid, he tries to return to his own world. He meets a program named Tron (played by Bruce Boxlietner) and joins Tron in the struggle for freedom against the Master Control Program (MCP). This was the first movie to make extensive use if CGI visual effects, a new technology in 1982. Back in '82, the visual effects looked astounding. The animations still look good, they look very fluid, not choppy at all. Tron still holds up, which is remarkable when you consider how technology has advanced since 1982. The look and feel of the move is unique. The art design, lighting, costming and music create an alternate world that looks truly otherworldly. Waching this movie, you don't see a different version of our everyday world but a whole other universe. The quality of the Blu-Ray transfer is exemplary. There were some issues with the DVD that are not a factor with the Blu-Ray. All the fantastic visuals and sounds come through in crystal clarity. This is the best Tron has ever looked. The extras include some nice featurettes on the making of Tron, but my favorites are the early CGI films. There are several examples of some early CGI footage. They may look primitive by today's standards, but they all give an inkling as to the future potential of CGI visual effect. It even includes CGI animation the director, Steven Lindsberger used to promote his studio and was the first appearance of Tron(though in a much different form). Tron is an amazing High defenition experience. It wa cutting edge for its day and is now an enduring classic. Essential for any B;u-Ray collection.

This movie debut back in 1982, so for Disney to transfer this movie on over to the Blu-ray format and restore the film so that it looks even better is amazing. Not many films receive the necessary attention needed to make the images look good in transfer. The end result is you see the poor transfer images hugely magnified by the Blu-ray format. I have to say the movie screenplay was well ahead of it's time, and this movie received less fanfare when it was released than it does today. If you watch the bonus material on how they produced this film you would agree they should receive some form of award (today) for their achievement. As far as the movie plot goes you will either love it or hate. It's not as exiting as a Star Wars movie but it is interesting in it's own way. My review mainly is aimed at the quality of the transfer. How good the movie is is subjective. So to each their own. If you are not a sci-fi fan or are of a newer age of movie viewer you might not like this movie and find the plot long and drawn out, and then there is the price of this Blu-ray, it's not cheap (2014 purchase), it is a Disney release after all. But like I said before they did do a good job on the transfer. I had a Best Buy Rewards coupon so it brought the price down to where it was more affordable. I was not too sure how well the transfer was going to appear so that was my main apprehension in purchasing this movie.

If you didn't live the eighties it will be hard to fully get this movie. The subject by today's standards and technology is quite dated, but we denizens of game rooms and arcades remember when there was no dance dance revolution, prize counters, guitar hero and skeeball taking up the floor once devoted to donkey Kong, pac-man, asteroids and defender. Tron was the way we could live vicariously inside video games. The look was cutting edge at the time before cgi came along. A lot of fun for old school animation and live-action sci-fi fantasy buffs.

I grew up in the 80's. It was during the birth of computers and the iconic Apple IIe. This is a fun retro movie that shows how the world viewed the future of technology. Compared to today's special effects, it seems clunky, but gives you a good perspective on how much technology has really changed in the last 30 years. Plus it's a great Sci-Fi kind of story.

Words fail to describe how far ahead of its time Tron was. The first movie EVER to use CGI still has 90% of the junk that's come out since beat. They pioneered "Black Screen" for their visual effects -the predecessor to blue and green screen. It is a compelling David and Goliath tale. It contrasts the strengths of human emotion against machine logic. Jeff Bridges and David Warner support the rest of the cast. The sheer scale of the visual effects will make anyone happy they bought that HDTV. An HDTV will make this movie worth the price of admission.

I love this movie and have always considered it one of my favorites. 'Tron' was considered a box-office disappointment, but has continued to grow in popularity ever since its release on home video. The only problem with this film is that, much like Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey,' it was so far ahead of its time that most people just simply didn't understand it. Kudos to all those involved in this project who were light years ahead of the rest of the movie industry, and who laid the foundation for the beginnings of computer generated effects.

I remember watching this movie growing up. Watching it again as an adult and watching the special features, then realizing this was on the cutting edge of computer graphics for the time, just amazes me. I this is always best to watch the original movie before watching any sequel(s) and this is definitely one of those.

Growing up as a child, I remember watching Tron on television. The movie is dated compared to today's technology but was ahead of it's time at time of release. This DVD package includes both the DVD and Blu Ray versions with lots of special features that will satisfy any Tron fan. If you watched Tron Legacy and have not seen Tron, you owe it to yourself to watch how it all started.
