Vidbox product worked as promised for 15-16 hours.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Vidbox Video Conversion for PC originally did what it was supposed to do, record VCR tapes and convert the files to .MP4, once I figured-out how to set my Windows 10 permissions to allow Vidbox access to my camera and microphone (info is not included in the quickstart guide). The output quality of converted files seemed to be about the same quality as my original VHS tape, as played on my PC screen. Unfortunately, the unit I purchased worked for 33 days, or about 15-16 hours of actual recording time. In the middle of recording one of our family videos, it just froze-up and the base of the Vidbox unit felt overheated. Task Manager would not shut the program down, so I had to turn off my PC. Since then I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, made sure that all the connections to the VCR and computer are solid, and double checked that my Windows 10 permissions for camera and microphone were set to allow Vidbox usage. I still get the error message "No Vidbox capture device was detected". Every setting is the same as I had before the unit quit working. I've had this unit just long enough that I can't take it back to Best Buy where I purchased it, so will have to see if I can get somebody from the Vidbox Support to answer their phone.

A 4+ purchase, and recommended.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Better than most/all the competitors' products currently on the BB shelves, and WAY superior to any earlier versions I've purchased. Instructions could/should be a bit clearer, but eventually make total sense. Real time recording isn't swift (nor was it expected to be), so the transfer project will take a while. I'm just grateful to have the tool to do so. Easy to recommend.

Great product
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent product, works great for me. So far, I converted 4 of my minidv camcorder cassette and it converted very well. Note that for camcorder ( in my case, I have cannon ZR60 old camcorder from 2003) minidv cassette conversion, you might need the wires that came with it. At first, I was not sure. So I called customer support. Customer support were helpful and were able to guide me.

Works ok.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Conversion runs smooth. It converts the sound with screeching noise in rare cases. I don't know if this is caused by the converter or the player.

Worked Like A Charm
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to get an old VHS tape and some Mini DV camcorder tapes converted to digital format so I could make a nice video of old memories for my Grandpa's funeral. I had around 24 hours to get it done (getting everything together and finding a pawn shop with a VCR was tough). I had bought this VIDBOX devise from Best Buy and it did the job fine. It was very simple to use. You don't need any tech skills, just follow the initial setup card (I think it was 4 steps), then it is as easy as plugging in the cords to the VIDBOX devise and to the other machines (VCR + Desktop PC, or Camcorder + Desktop PC), it is that easy. The hardest part is that it needs to play the entire tape, as it plays it records. What is nice and nifty, is that the VIDBOX devise allows you to click the "Record" button on the VIDBOX window that is on your desktop monitor (Yes, a nice VIDBOX window fills the desktop screen, and it too is basic w/o need of tech skills). With this setup it allows you to manually press "Play" on the VCR and let the tape play. At any time, before or when the VCR tape gets to a recording you can choose when to begin and end your recording session (converting). The VIDBOX window on the desktop monitor has a smaller squared picture section, this allows you to see what you are trying to record (convert), and just click the "Record" button on the VIDBOX window screen controls. For instance the VCR tape I used, had a blue screen for a few minutes or more before the recording began to play. I didn't record that part. What can I say, this is a nice devise, easy to use, just sit back and watch the tapes play on your desktop monitor as they record and with sound too. You even can set it to end the recording at a specific amount of time, such as three minutes, one hour or two hours and walk away. It saves you from forgetting about it and over recording for a long period of blank video that would take up time to fix and take up space on your hard drive. It will stop promptly at the selected time. Nonetheless, I got some other software free off the internet to convert all my videos to a required format so I could use Windows Movie Maker to put all my pictures and videos together in one movie for the funeral. After I managed to muster up all the pictures, videos, software, hardware and convert it all into a working movie, I decided to keep the video portions a surprise and let the family believe it is a movie of just pictures. Needless to say, the old pictures and videos of Grandpa from the 1930's on up, the family gatherings of us having good times and making jokes was a big hit at the Memorial portion. It came after all have spoken and the tears were being shed, but then I played the movie, it had everybody laughing and talking about memories and seeing the family get-togethers during the holiday dinners. A spry Grandpa in the 90's and 2000's, with the family's fun, clever remarks and crafty jokes, this little VIDBOX devise brought so much joy and fond memories back to the surface in a time of sorrow. A somber family crowd moved to a smiling, laughing but tearful bunch for the rest of the funeral. They loved the video. They couldn't stop smiling while talking about the good times or the refreshed memories and they all wanted a copy. Thank you VIDBOX and Best Buy.

Q: QuestionDo you have to use the software that, I assume, comes with this conversion kit and does it cost additionally to use it. I've tried others and they duped me. My second question is how much storage do I need per minute/hour of video conversion?
Asked by Softwareandstoragequestion.
- A:Answer The VIDBOX capture equipment is not tested with third-party software. Some users have had success with using the equipment with third-party software, but many also face issues with it working correctly. VIDBOX can only support the operation of the capture device with the included software. Using the Video Conversion for PC software, there are multiple recording options. However, the recommended digital storage option is using the Advanced Mode, MPEG-2 File option for roughly 4 GB/hour of footage.

Q: QuestionI'm setting up the VIDBOX to convert VHS tapes to DVD on my laptop. At Step 5 I get error: "The selected device cannot be used. Select another device." The VCR works fine. I've tried the three USB plug spots on the laptop. What am I doing wrong? Thanx
Asked by Peggy.
- A:Answer This message would most commonly be due to a permissions setting in Windows that does not allow apps to use video/camera and audio/microphone recording devices. Please visit the VIDBOX Help Center on the VIDBOX website for the "Privacy Settings (Windows)" article that covers checking these settings.

Q: QuestionI have Sony 8mm tapes from 1991 without the camera. Would this be what I need to put them on a memory disk?
Asked by Susanna.
- A:Answer No, you will still need a working camera to play the tapes to the device included in this package. The product relies on you having a working player that can output via RCA and/or S-Video connections. The product can digitize a signal it receives, but it cannot read from the tapes directly.

Q: Questiondoes this product burn movies from vcr to a dvd?
Asked by rodbog22.
- A:Answer Yes, this product would allow you to capture video from a VCR, then burn it to a DVD. Please note that you will have to have a working VCR and a compatible computer with a DVD writer to perform those functions.

Q: QuestionI’ve noticed “Black/White” for several of these kits. If the VHS is in color, will the conversion be in color when transferred?
Asked by Jbg.
- A:Answer Yes, a color source will produce a color recording with this package. Unless there is an issue with the source or a setting, everything will be in color be default. We are not sure on why the "Black/White" listing exists, though you can optionally choose to desaturate video to effectively get a black and white recording.

Q: QuestionI have the video conversion for PC, I install the software, hooked my box up to the computer and VCR, and entered my product key. However whenever I try to open the software it opens a maintenance screen Saying modify repair or remove. It won’t open.
Asked by Caleb94.
- A:Answer The maintenance program appears when trying to run the setup file again instead of opening the shortcut of the installed app. Depending on the status, you may need to uninstall the app using the Remove option. Then reinstall the application from the setup file. Once you have confirmed successful installation, it may be a good idea to delete the setup file so that it does not get confused with the Desktop shortcut.

Q: QuestionAny idea/s why Vidbox would work on a Surfacebook running Windows 11 Pro but not a Surface Pro running Windows 11 Pro?
Asked by MikeM.
- A:Answer Provided the settings and installed apps are the same, we would expect the product to work on both systems. Please contact customer support for assistance in determining the cause of the issue.

Q: QuestionIs Vidbox for PC compatible with Windows 11 Pro?
Asked by MikeM.
- A:Answer The software has been tested to work with Windows 11. You may need to disable the Memory Integrity setting in Windows 11 if it conflicts with certain VIDBOX device drivers. More information can be found in the VIDBOX Help Center or by contacting the Customer Care team.
