It does include 2 separate switches on the face of the unit, which allow you to control the heat and flames individually. It can heat a room up to about 400 sq. feet. A: Hello Bg, This item requires full assembly, other than the fireplace which is a simple plug-in unit. It can easily be screwed into place. The item comes with step-by-step instructions for assembly as well as all parts and hardware. On average it takes about an hour to assemble.
