4k release Waterworld HDR .
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Waterworld done masterfully in 4k . Big fan of Kevin Costner this one of his movies , cinematics action stunts are truly amazing as this movie puts the effects of global warming into perspective . Picture quality is phenomenal as you won’t see any grainy scene as some poorly remastered movies . 5 stars for this one as I enjoyed it watching in on my home theater , very vivid movie.

Beautiful SteelBook and Wonderful movie
||Posted .I always have enjoyed this movie, and now it’s great to have it in 4K! The SteelBook looks really nice and the picture quality is fantastic compared to the Blu-ray. Definitely worth picking up.

4K REVIEW: WATERWORLD STEELBOOK
||Posted .Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This is a dark and glossy SteelBook with a propensity to collect fingerprints. The front is primarily black around its periphery with an aqua-colored reproduction of Enola's tattoo in all of its complexity, complete with Far East-style writing within the symbol and running vertically along its left and right sides. A few smears of aqua color dot the top and bottom front panel edges. The rear side maintains the aqua coloring, making it the primary hue, shading brighter towards the middle and darker towards the edges. An image of a can of "Smeat," one of the funnier props in the movie (meant to resemble Spam) appears in full color, center. A Universal logo and some legal notifications appear center bottom in white lettering. A model number appears unobtrusively bottom right. The spine carries over the glossy black coloring. The film's title appears center in an aqua color, darker on the "Water" side of the text and lighter on the "world" side. A Universal studio logo appears bottom. Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features a black-and-white still image of The Mariner on the left and a snarling Deacon on the right. Both appear in front of a solid black background. Supplementally, this set contains only the film's extended cut in 1080p/DTS 5.1 on the UHD disc and the film's standard definition trailer on the bundled Blu-ray. The on-disc UHD content is quite good. Recommended.

Waterworld 1995 climate crisis film
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Waterworld is a 1995 American post-apocalyptic action film directed by Kevin Reynolds and co-written by Peter Rader and David Twohy. Kevin Costner as The Mariner Dennis Hopper as The Deacon Jeanne Tripplehorn as Helen Tina Majorino as Enola Michael Jeter as Old Gregor Set in the future after global warming has melted the polar caps and terra firma seems to be a myth. The fight for hope is as real as the fight for life. Excellent film.

Aging isn't always bad, or good.
||Posted .Owned for 4 months when reviewed.I love this film. It is not great, and it has not aged especially well. But I love it nonetheless. That said, the review is more for the product than the film: Some films were made such that the transition to higher resolution formats are easy, and relatively understandable when there are hiccups. This is NOT that sort of example. This is one where the film was incredibly creative, and higher resolution (plus HDR and more colour volume) have served to show a bit too much of "how the sausage is made", as it were. This isn't just film grain being a little distracting. This is where the colour saturation is a littler odd where it hasn't been graded particularly well to the newer format, the lines where some digital touch-ups were done previously are a little too aliased, and the original effects are just a little too campy. The one key mistake that I would call out more than any of the above, though, is the digital noise reduction - It is necessary to combat the film grain, but it has been used too much, such that in many instances you will see skin come off as plasticky and unnatural. HDR was not noteworthy in its implementation here, and any dynamic TV tonemapping would do similarly. That's easily one star off for the visual presentation not being what it could be. From an audio perspective, this film has never sounded better. The DTS:X audio track is huge and bombastic, but doesn't leave out the gentler scenes and dialogue. For some folks who only have Dolby Atmos capability, and not DTS processing, this could be a problem. But it is otherwise comparable as the two standards are both similarly capable, and are both commonly used in most major studio releases. The casing is adequate (I opted for the standard case, since the Steelbook was unavailable at the time of order), but nothing special, with just the UHD disc, single blu-ray, and an insert for the digital copy. This is a film that is wearing its wrinkles fairly well. It doesn't look perfect, and it has had some touch-up work done along the way, but ultimately proved a very enjoyable watch for me - Just not quite five stars.

Great 4K makes the movie better
||Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Ok, Waterworld is known as a flop! However, the movie was killed before it was even released because of bad press! The movie to this day has turned a profit of at least 10 million! Not bad for a flop? I won’t argue this is a great movie, but far from a flop and not just cause of money. Some of the shots in this film are Epic. Watching Costner whizzing across the water in a very cool looking ship is just one. Some of the shadow shots with the beautiful Hawaiian sunset as a backdrop make for some great shots. The Atoll where much of the Waterworld community lived was a gigantic set built using basically every piece of iron in Hawaii! There’s some great stuff here! You have 2 new choices this 4K version or a 3 disc set from Arrow that includes the infamous Ulysses cut (basically a fan created cut of the film) SPOILER: Its called the Ulysses cut because of the name given to Costner’s character at the end of the movie. The arrow blu Ray has great extras and we here from the people who made the film minus Costner (a big missing piece), but 3 cuts of the film and extras is a nice package and if you’re a completist this would be for you. But a cheaper way to go to see the best visual version of the film is this 4K disc! It also comes with a second longer cut of the film on blu Ray. No other extras. I actually am enough of a fan (not in my top 100) and Also a completist so I bought both. I would recommend the 4K for someone not interested in extras because it’s a film where you definitely can see the difference in quality from blu Ray to 4K. Plus you can watch the extended version that does give you more info about the characters and a special surprise Planet of the Apes ending. For under 20 bucks it’s definitely worth the buy. 4 stars is high given some flat acting, but the visuals and sound track on 4K makes it 4 stars!
