Media Storage Dream Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Lot's of space for movies, music, pictures, game backups, etc. Dual 8TB drives is great. Seamless RAID, drives are easy to access and replace if ever needed. Being able to centralize media in a single l drive location is perfect especially if you need to take it and run quickly. (fire or traveling, etc) Gray coloring blends into my media setup unlike my previous 2TB World Book that was white. Very fast transfer speeds over USB 3.0. I've seen peak transfers around 280MB/s but I don't typically monitor it. Source drive has a lot to do with the transfer speed. SSD to USB are very fast. Works with Dish Network, LG BluRay player, Windows 8.1, Windows 7. Large 1080p movie files stream with additional traffic without issue. Runs cool Indicator light is dull unobtrusive white. Cons: none to note, just not the most stylish of devices, it's looks will not impress your family. May have issues with 8TB with some routers. TP-Link AC 1750 router would not recognize this drive as a media device. If using this over network be sure to check your router's USB connection (3.0) and max hard dive specs. Not sue why other comment has idling issues. Probably some software accessing the drive constantly. Don't see this issue while hooked up to a large network of computers and other media devices. comes preformatted to NTFS

Very Happy With Purchase & Product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Western Digital has been one of my all-time favorite companies for storage. I have tons of photo's/video's and when I found this product, I was amazed that it has (2) two, 4TB hard-drives enclosed in one case. I like the idea of formatting one or, both drives separately using Raid and using both drive together for a total of 8TB. So far, as I suspected, I've had NO PROBLEMS with the workmanship of the unit and I have been VERY HAPPY with it's performance. Western Digital stands by their products if you ever need any questions asked. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone who wants the ultimate in storage capacity.

Best bang for the buck RAID!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been looking for a RAID drive for a year and finally came across this drive. It's by far the least expensive RAID drive I've found and being that it's from Western Digital, you know it's reliable! It uses two WD RED series drives. It's not listed on their website as a drive for Mac however all you have to do is reformat the drive for OSX and then download the software compatible with this drive and you're up and running!

Great external HDD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 4th WD Hard Drive. I filled up my last two 2TB drives so I wanted to get a much bigger drive and 8TB seemed to fit the bill. I absolutely love the usb 3.0. Only one of my previous drives had that so the speed is great. I also love the two port hub on the back for expansion. Would definitely recommend!!!!!!

Worked as advertised
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very happy with Wd - My Book Duo 8tb 2-bay External Usb 3.0 Storage. What is nice is it had the ability to stripe the drive for speed or mirror for another layer of backup. Hooked it up to my router and use it as a backup and personal cloud storage. They include software for backing up but I have not used it so I know nothing about those programs.

So far so good...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good deal for this purchase. Was on sale at Best Buy but someone else had it cheaper so they price matched. Can be used as "just a bunch of disks" for the full 8 TB or in a mirrored or other RAID configuration for 4 TB. Exactly what I needed for my photo library and music backups.

Does what it's supposed to do
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hard to review storage drives they either work or do not I'll say this was definitely on the more expensive side but with the 2 Xtra USB ports you can double or triple your capacity very easily I connected 2 4tb drives with no issue, I already have n now have 16tb of space for movies, pictures etc.

Great back up!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a great back up, easy to set up, and very fast it backed up a 1tb in only 7 hours which is pretty quick for just a usb connection! Although reason I rated it a 4 out of 5 is cause it's made very cheap and feels cheapy since it's all plastic.

Q: QuestionIs this drive 5400rpm or 7200rpm?Is this drive 5400rpm or 7200rpm?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Only the WD RED PRO drives are base 7200 RPM. The My Book Duo does not use WD RED PRO drives, just WD RED. These drives use WD's "IntelliPower" RPM rating, which is base 5400 but they say can operate in the range of 5400-7200. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2407614,00.asp
