Not for the casual gamer, but an Epic tale awaits
|Posted .This is not a game for the casual gamer, or for someone looking for a 'hit and run' game that can be played for 20-30 and then forgotten for a few days. This is an expansive game and time suck... and worth every immersive minute. The game's visuals are striking and beautiful and the scale breathtaking at times. The beauty and scale of the game are only second to the sheer size of the world; it's insanely big, dwarfing many other popular open world games on other systems. There are moments where the game is a bit unforgiving, combat can drag and some battles feel unfair until you realize you just need to level and equip accordingly... and actually use tactics/strategy. The time spent playing out the story until you get your first mech is pretty daunting, but again worth the wait. Other than those personal preferences (can't really call them flaws) and maybe some of the voice acting, I can't recommend this game strongly enough... at least for the jrpg and rpg fans in general who have a lot of time to invest.

Great on its own, not as a sequel
|Posted .It has a hard time living up to its namesake, which ranks among my favorite games of all time, but they did a great job nonetheless. As is repeated everywhere else on the internet, the strong story and likable characters from the first game aren't matched by this one; the characters are a lot more flat and underdeveloped. It suffers from way too many homogenized characters, and the plot is short and doesn't have a lot going for it. That's not the main attraction, however. The setting is absolutely fantastic; I don't think it's matched by any other open-world game on the market. There's tons to explore, and it's consistently fun just to run around Mechanically, I think the battles are a bit worse than the original, since the uniqueness of the cast's movesets was abandoned for a much more generic class system, and in the end it didn't really seem to matter much which I chose, or who I took with me. The original made the contribution of you and your two party members important, and it really felt like a proper team. Here, the actions of your party is pretty inconsequential, especially later on. Sidequests were greatly improved, however. I always thought they were the weakest point of the original, and X gave them a lot of polish. That being said, compared to other games I would still call them bland and middling. It's a step in the right direction, but they still have a game or two to go before they get it right. Overall, it's not as beloved game to me as the original, but it's still a great game. I'd recommend it, especially for people who like exploration in game.s

Excellent game for an RPG-gameplay-lover
|Posted .I've only put a handful of hours into this game thus far, but it's honestly pretty darned enjoyable. If you, like me, simply enjoy RPG gameplay elements done pretty well, and aren't necessarily worried about playing through a phenomenal role-playing narrative, and/or if you enjoy pseudo-MMORPG-style progression and combat (and some actual large-scale multiplayer combat experiences and social elements), then this game is for you. It's pretty gorgeous, and it's got a freaking MASSIVE world full of a pretty huge variety of enemies, rather complex combat systems (easy to do but tough to master all the particulars and/or win against particularly tough enemies, etc.), and a plethora of equipment and items. Honestly, if you don't simply enjoy these elements and this type of gameplay, itself, (exploring huge worlds and enemy types, fighting lots of things, leveling up, improving yours and your party's equipment, etc.), then you may not find this game very amazing. Out of all games in existence, it is not necessarily the greatest game of all time, or one that just anyone would probably pick up and enjoy playing through. But, for its tailored genre, it's a very good game with lots of TLC put into its gameplay systems, and one you can easily sink over 100 hours into. Lots of RPG bang for your buck, :) Out of all games

Interesting
|Posted .I got this game on sale, and at the price it was worth it. I'm still not fully convinced it's a $60 title, but at the price I got it for (around $25) it was worth it. It's definitely one of the most graphically impressive games on the Wii U (character models aside), and the world is beautiful. You can tell the developers worked hard to make this game work on the system. Outside of the graphics, the characters and story are just... alright. It's not the best - not even close - but you can do worse. The voice acting isn't bad either. I've never played the original Xenoblade Chronicles, so I can't say how the gameplay compares to it, but I guess I'd say it's an RPG with some twists. Being able to take your mech (eventually) out and fly around is a thrill, at the very least. Check out a video of the gameplay and see if it's for you. That really is the meat of the game.

I'm impressed
|Posted .It may not be exactly my cup of tea, but a lot of solid effort went into this game and it shows. Firstly, the story is compelling, unless sci-fi survival just isn't your thing. As you continue to play, it doesn't take long for the story to get very complex with new plot elements added as you continue to explore. And that is another thing all together: there is a lot to explore, and it is lush and thick, rich in attention to detail and strategy. Each situation has to be handled using an approach that works, and with the open world as rich as it is, I suppose the approach will vary extraordinarily from player to player, thus making Xenoblade Chronicles X a very different game for each player. Lastly, that brings me to customization. Weapons, outfits, characters, jobs, etc.: there's enough here to satisfy every style of play. Every element of Xenoblade is crafted to perfection, and I can see why Nintendo believes in Monolith Soft.

Awsome!!!
|Posted .This is one of the best WiiU Games..... While the fighting is not my thing, the exploration was fantastic.... many various environments to explore and the world is HUGE!!!! Hours and hours to solve this one, and there is not shortage of excitement or story. Only down side the RPG system is a bit confusing and complex and takes time to get used to. But the games helps ease you into some of it so you don't have to learn it all at once. My favorite is once you get a Skell and can fly, the map really opens up. North south east and west and now up is a direction to explore... Places that were inaccessible are now full of areas new and ready to explore. If you have a WIIU and are looking for a great game try this!
