About This Item

This brand new 1/72 scale diecast model of the Hetzer (Starr) Tank Destroyer "Prague" (1945) by Panzerstahl is a limited edition collector’s item featuring detailed exterior and true-to-scale accuracy. The model comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened packaging and includes a plastic display showcase for protection. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts, it measures approximately 2.5 inches in length (3.375 with cannon), 1.375 inches in width, and 1.25 inches in height, providing durability and a realistic weight. Pad-printed markings and placards ensure long-lasting detail that won’t fade or peel, while realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels, and surface details offer an authentic representation of the real vehicle. The Sd.Kfz. 138/2 Jagdpanzer 38 Starr was a specialized variant of the Hetzer tank destroyer, featuring a rigidly mounted 75mm PaK 39 L/48 gun that eliminated the recoil mechanism to simplify production and reduce costs during Germany’s final months of World War II. Only a handful of these vehicles were produced due to reliability issues with the rigid mounting system. In May 1945, elements of Kampfgruppe Milowitz operated these rare Hetzer variants in the defense of Prague, Czechoslovakia, attempting to hold strategic positions against overwhelming Soviet and Czechoslovak forces. Despite their innovative design, the Starrs were largely ineffective against superior numbers and firepower, with many vehicles abandoned or destroyed during the chaotic retreat. By Germany’s surrender, the remaining vehicles had been captured or destroyed, with surviving examples studied by the Soviets before being scrapped or used in post-war testing. This 1:72 scale model meticulously replicates the distinctive design and battlefield-worn features of the Jagdpanzer 38 Starr, offering collectors and military history enthusiasts a detailed and historically significant representation of one of the last armored innovations of the German Army.
