These headphones are so good that before I go into the review I’m going to say If you’re in the market for over the ear headset (not just gaming) buy the Cloud Alpha 2. The Alpha 2 have the best battery life on the market and are one of the most comfortable headsets out there. What makes them worth buying. Sound: The sound from this headset is amazing, you hear all the details regardless if you’re watching movie/gaming or listening to music. The high’s and mid’s sound very rich and you will hear things in your music that you haven’t heard before. The lows are nice, while not eardrum rattling, it’s the perfect amount so you’re not ruining your eardrum. Comfort: The Alpha 2’s are one of the most comfortable headsets I have ever used. The ear cups are big enough to fit all ears sizes and the microfiber earpads feel amazing, what makes the earpads even better is they can be replaced. I used the headset for work and play, 12 hours, and had no ear fatigue and the microfiber is super breathable so no sweating. The headband uses memory foam and is comfortable although im not sure how well it will wear overtime. There is no ANC, however the way they fit your ears makes it impossible to hear anything around you if you have something playing. For those worried about their surroundings there is a passthrough mode which allow outside sounds to come in if you want. Mics: There are 2 sets of mics for the Cloud Alpha 2’s , the boom mic and the other set which is built into the headset itself. The built-in mics do a excellent job for phone calls and the person on the other side had no issue hearing me. Having the built-in mics is great this way you can use the headset for more than just gaming. The boom mic does make a difference compared to the normal mics, it reduced the amount of ambient noise and there was less fluctuation in my voice while gaming. Battery: The battery life on these is amazing, I used them for 7.5 hours on Bluetooth and only lost 2% battery. When using dual mode and having Bluetooth and the base station connected I lost battery at about 1% an hour. What makes the battery portion even better is that it is changeable, I didn’t see this coming as no companies do this anymore. If your battery ever does get damaged or doesn’t hold a charge you can replace it easily. Base station : The included dock works well, simple to use and is great for all PC gamers. It allows you to reduce gaming volume or increase mic volume with a simple twist. The buttons on the dock have a nice feel and can be customized through the software. One of the best things about the base station is it allows you to control the volume of the game independently from your phone, if you get a phone call while connected in dual mode the base station will control all setting for the game while your phones volume is controlled through your phone. What could be better. Base station: While the dock is nice for PC gaming its tough for console gaming as its not wireless, if you do decide to use it for console gaming you will have wires running everywhere. The mute button on the base station isn’t a button, its more like a screen that you tap. Buttons on the headset: The buttons are too flush and its hard to know where they are by just feeling, some texture should have been added to them to make them easier to identify. Software: The Ngenuity software is still in beta and it only works on windows. While there are a few issues with the Cloud Alpha 2 they are still one of, if not the best, headsets on the market.

The HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 is hands down the best gaming headset I have ever used, and being a 37 year old “techie” I’ve used MANY from all the top brands. Between the software/hardware and the feel of the headset, it's all top notch. (The overall value of this class of headset completely depends on your use case, if the cost isn’t an issue, you’ll love it!) The second you open the box you can tell this is a different level of headset. The headset itself is so solid, metal and premium feeling parts all over. The base station feels so solid, the RGB lights look top notch, not the “excessive RGB” feel that some new products have. The app installs easily, had a bit of a hiccup updating the firmware on first use, but it worked after I tried again. While I’m no audiophile, the sound IS AMAZING. I’m getting up there as far as “gamer” goes, but I’ve heard so many different headsets over the years, and this one takes the cake. Games, music, videos, nothing sounds off, and even if it does, you have so many equalizer options! Plus the comfort is great! (my extra large head fits fine, does make me a bit warm, but almost every headset does) (Battery life seems to be stellar, haven’t tested up to their claims, but after a couple hours of use the app is still reporting 100%) Hyper X has an absolute winner on their hands with this epic headset!

The HyperX – Cloud Alpha 2 is a feature-packed gaming headset. The comfort, overall sound quality, and the cool RGB base are some of the features that stand out. Having used this gaming headset for a couple of days, this headset has so far been a seriously awesome addition to my gaming sessions. This is my review of the HyperX – Cloud Alpha 2 Wireless Gaming Headset. *TLDR at the bottom ========= IN THE BOX/SET-UP: In the box, you get the Cloud Alpha 2, the Base Station, a soft headset bag, two USB-C cables(one of them having a USB-C to USB-A adapter), an AUX cable, a detachable microphone, and a quick start guide. The setup was simple and took less than 10 minutes with cable management. Simply plug the base into your computer’s USB-C port and turn on the headset. Ensure that the headset is set to the correct connection setting. This can be done on the headset itself. Wireless toggle for only a 2.4GHz connection or the Wireless/Bluetooth toggle for a dual connection. One device is connected via the 2.4GHz connection, and the other device is connected via Bluetooth. While the Ngenuity App is optional, I highly recommend it to be able to access more advanced settings and features. Also, ensure that you download the Beta version, as the original Ngenuity app did not detect the headset. ========= DESIGN/COMFORT: In terms of design, the Cloud Alpha 2s are on the heavier side compared to other gaming headsets I have tried. This is due to the addition of some metal parts to the headset, which adds a premium and durable feel. But this feeling of durability does come with the weight. There are also not many buttons on the headset because all your audio controls are on the RGB base. The base can control volume, mic volume, mic monitoring, game/chat balance, and can even play/pause your media. One can also quickly mute the mic with a simple tap of the haptic feedback button between the volume wheel, which is an excellent touch! The only item missing that I wish this base had built-in is media control buttons. Luckily, these controls can be easily programmed to perform these functions using the app. In terms of comfort, this gaming headset is surprisingly comfortable, even with the extra weight. I’ve had 5+ hour gaming sessions and did not feel any discomfort. Although the ear cushions are on the thicker end, and don’t have much breathability. With the lack of breathability, I have noticed I get hotter with this headset compared to other headsets I have used. ========= SOUND/MICROPHONE QUALITY: Sound quality is great but not excellent. Outside the box, the sound is balanced, with the lows noticeably lacking. But with the Ngenuity app, there is a built-in EQ. To say the least, it is amazing. One can choose between editing a simple EQ to a more advanced EQ with precise audio control. I’m no expert, but playing around with the EQ does considerably increase sound quality to what you desire. But even without touching the EQ, sound quality was fine. I was able to hear the footsteps of enemy players in FPSs like Battlefield 6 and feel the immersive sounds of action-adventure games like Rise of the Tomb Raider. Spatial audio is also great, and if needed, spatial audio can be fine-tuned to your liking within the app. Microphone quality is outstanding, too. By default, mic monitoring (sidetone or setting to hear your own voice) is set to low. I typically set it a little higher, and it works wonderfully. Additionally, in-game chats were fine, and my teammates heard me loud and clear. ========= FEATURES/OTHER NOTES: Below are some key features and notes about the Cloud Alpha 2s: - This gaming headset has no active noise cancelling; I was able to hear my PC fans and furnace clearly - The Ngenuity app, while it is in beta, I have not run into any app-breaking bugs - Battery life is great; I have yet to charge the headset - This gaming headset supports dual audio (2.4GHz and Bluetooth) - The base station’s RGB is customizable, and buttons are programmable - The lettering on the base station(sides) is hard to see in dark environments - This headset is compatible with consoles like the PS5 - Headset has a built-in mic that is not as good as the detachable mic, but still usable in certain situations, like phone calls ========= CONCLUSION/TLDR: Overall, the Cloud Alpha 2 is an excellent gaming headset. The provided bass station allows you to control your audio carefully and quickly switch between settings. Sound quality is great but not excellent, although the app does have a built-in EQ to fine-tune your audio, which I highly recommend. Spatial audio can also be fine-tuned for those audiophiles out there. The headset is on the heavier side, but comfort was not sacrificed. I did not feel any discomfort, just more heat due to the ear cushion design. If you are looking for a feature-packed gaming headset with a nice RGB base station to control all your audio from, this is the gaming headset for you. I highly recommend you give this gaming headset a shot!
