A: Brian, The knob on the front of the speaker can control sleep / wake, volume, and input selection. You get full functionality with the remote including tone controls and play controls but you can use the speakers without the remote. Perfect powered speaker for my new Audio Technica
Bought these powered speakers for my new Turntable. Because they are powered speakers you don’t need a receiver. Exactly what I wanted. The sound is great for the small size. The casing is approximately 9” tall, the 4” refers to the inside speaker. I think the sound is very good, maybe some people would like to add a bass speaker but I really don’t miss it, the sound is very balanced. Attractive design also.

Great powered speakers
If you have a small space, these are perfect because you don't need a receiver to hook them up to your turn table. They have amazing sound and look great!

Work great with my turntable
Purchased these bad boys to use in conjunction with my turntable (not for DJing just home use). Work excellent with the Bluetooth feature as well. Beautiful crisp sound .
