Q: what type of battery do i need for the remote?
A: CR 2450
A: If it is not automatically connected after replacing the battery you should just pair it up again. Press the pair button on the amp and the pair button on the remote. If that doesn't work it could be that the real problem was the remote has failed and not just the battery. I recently had to replace the battery in mine and it stayed paired. It did not have any issues. Unfortunately I had to get a new one anyway since my original was lost when my car was recently totalled. The new one immediately paired with my KXA 1200.1 when I did what I described previously on pairing.
A: I realize that the original person asked this over a year ago but maybe someone will have their same question. It comes already paired with your amplifier. It is a bluetooth connection. If you lost or had to replace a defective remote you simply push the pair button over the power light on the amplifier and the pair button on the rear of the remote. It will connect after that. You just need a small narrow object to press the button on each.
