Q: Can this alarm be used without connecting the red wire?
A: Hello. Yes. The alarm will not interconnect with the other alarms but it can be installed with just the hot black wire and white neutral. Please contact your local authority requiring smoke alarms to make sure that having alarms that don't interconnect is up to your local fire codes.
A: Hello. You will have to take down all of the older alarms before putting up any new alarms. You will have to change out and rewire the wiring harness plugs at each location. There are no adaptors for the wiring harnesses you have now. You will have to change out the mounting brackets at each location but that will just take a screwdriver to change out.
