One of the benefits of in-ceiling speakers is how easily they disappear into a room. Unfortunately, the sound coming from the back of the speaker doesn’t disappear and can distract those in the rooms above the speakers. MartinLogan offers back boxes, or enclosures, for Motion CI In-ceiling speakers. For these situations where sound control is desired, these retrofittable back boxes are the perfect solution. They offer 20dB of noise reduction into adjacent areas and offer the perfect solution to achieve consistent performance where ceiling cavity sizes may vary throughout an installation. Please note that the volume of air in the retrofit enclosure is smaller than that of your ceiling, and bass extension will be reduced. If sound control is not necessary for your unique installation, we recommend not using the back box so the speaker can take advantage of the larger airspace in your ceiling cavity.
Q: How much noise reduction do the back boxes provide?
A: These back boxes offer 20dB of noise reduction into adjacent areas.
Q: What is the purpose of the back boxes for these speakers?
A: The back boxes, or enclosures, are designed to reduce sound leakage into adjacent rooms.
Q: Is the back box compatible with all MartinLogan speakers?
A: No, this back box (model C6HTBXR) is specifically designed for the MartinLogan MC6-HT speaker.
Q: What is the weight of this back box?
A: The back box weighs 1.6 pounds.
Q: Are there any drawbacks to using the back boxes with these speakers?
A: Yes, using the back box will reduce bass extension due to the smaller volume of air inside the enclosure.
Q: Will this box work for the ElectroMotion IC ceiling speaker? If not, what is the correct box?
A: Thank you for your question and we hope all is well. That backbox will not work as there are no provisions on EMIC to attach that box. We, unfortunately, don't have a back box available for the EMIC. That is something that we've been working on to have available on all future models, but we apologize that it's not something we have for this model. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with and we appreciate your support.
A: Hello. Thank you for your question, and we hope all is well. These back boxes are designed to attach to the back of the speaker and are a great option for sound control. Unfortunately, the sound coming from the back of the speaker doesn’t disappear and can distract those in the rooms above the speakers. For these situations where sound control is desired, these retrofittable back boxes are the perfect solution. They offer 20dB of noise reduction into adjacent areas. We do, however, offer ceiling mount brackets that are great options for new construction. The bracket that works with the MC6-HT is the C6HTBRK. Note these do come in a 2-pack. We hope this information helps, and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with. We hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for your support of our company.

The MC6-HT is the angled version of the MC6. By designing the speaker with a fixed tweeter and woofer angle, we were able to tune the performance of the speaker far more accurately than universal pivoting designs. The MC6-HT is recommended for applications where the listener will spend most of their time not directly underneath the speaker. For example, when being used as the front or center speaker in a home theater, the listener is typically around 10 feet or farther away, yet typical in ceiling speakers are pointing straight down placing the sweet spot directly in front of the screen. By angling the drivers towards the listener, a very noticeable increase in performance is realized. All MartinLogan Motion CI Series speakers feature our signature Folded Motion Tweeter or FMT. This innovative piece of audio technology provides incredible detail, precise clarity, clean output and high efficiency in a small but mighty package. Pairing this tweeter with lightweight woven fiberglass woofers means that Motion CI delivers a clean and balanced sound that is perfectly suited for any application. Whether you listen to music, movies or a little bit of everything, Motion CI gives you a true high-end audio experience at an affordable price. To round out the assortment, pre-construction brackets are available for all models, and all in-ceiling models have square grilles and retrofittable back enclosures available separately.

Fill your home with rich, detailed sound using these Sonance MAG8R in-ceiling speakers. Designed for whole house audio, multi room audio, and distributed audio system use, these 8" 2-way speakers combine exceptional acoustic performance with a low-profile appearance that disappears into the ceiling. A pivoting silk dome tweeter lets you direct high frequencies where you need them most, while the glass fiber woofer delivers clean, natural midrange and bass. These speakers are also compatible with Dolby Atmos and home theater setups when used as overhead channels, adding dimension and immersion to your entertainment setup. Ideal for retrofit or new construction projects, these speakers install quickly and securely with Sonance’s Roto-Lock mounting system and come with paintable magnetic grilles to match any room’s design.
