One of the benefits of in-ceiling speakers is how easily they disappear into a room. Unfortunately, the sound coming from the back of the speaker doesn’t disappear and can distract those in the rooms above the speakers. MartinLogan offers back boxes, or enclosures, for Motion XT CI In-ceiling speakers. For these situations where sound control is desired, these retrofittable back boxes are the perfect solution. They offer 20dB of noise reduction into adjacent areas and offer the perfect solution to achieve consistent performance where ceiling cavity sizes may vary throughout an installation. Please note that the volume of air in the retrofit enclosure is smaller than that of your ceiling, and bass extension will be reduced. If sound control is not necessary for your unique installation, we recommend not using the back box so the speaker can take advantage of the larger airspace in your ceiling cavity.
Q: Does this back box enclosure have any wireless capabilities?
A: No, this back box enclosure does not have wireless capabilities.
Q: Is the C8HTBXR back box compatible with other MartinLogan speakers?
A: No, the C8HTBXR back box is specifically designed for the MartinLogan XTC8-HT speaker model.
Q: How do the back boxes affect the speaker's bass response?
A: Using the back boxes will reduce bass extension due to the smaller volume of air compared to an open ceiling cavity.
Q: What is the diameter of the cutout required for installing this back box?
A: The required cutout diameter for installation is 9.25 inches.
Q: What is the purpose of the back boxes for these speakers?
A: The back boxes are designed to reduce noise transfer to adjacent rooms, offering 20dB of noise reduction.
A: Hello. Thank you for your question, and we apologize that your question was missed. We had some issues receiving these but believe that is now fixed. It is designed as a back box to fit our XTC8HT speaker. The terminals are attached because the back can seals the back of the speaker, which is normally open, so there must be a way to connect speaker wire. Normally the speakers binding posts are easily accessible, but when the back can is attached, they are now covered. The accessory is not meant to be a universal option but specifically for the C8-HT models. We hope this helps, and thank you for your interest in our products. We hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for your support.

By far the most popular size for in-ceiling speakers, the MC6 features a 6.5” woofer with higher power handling, greater output capability, and improved bass response over the smaller MC4. This model works without a built-in enclosure to allow the speaker to use more airspace for higher performance. For applications where sound control is desired, an optional retrofittable back enclosure is available separately. As with all Motion series CI speakers, the MC6 uses MartinLogan’s signature Folded Motion Tweeter for precise clarity and incredible realism to meet all your entertainment needs. All MartinLogan Motion CI Series speakers feature our signature Folded Motion Tweeter or FMT. This innovative piece of audio technology provides incredible detail, precise clarity, clean output and high efficiency in a small but mighty package. Pairing this tweeter with lightweight woven fiberglass woofers means that Motion CI delivers a clean and balanced sound that is perfectly suited for any application. Whether you listen to music, movies or a little bit of everything, Motion CI gives you a true high-end audio experience at an affordable price. To round out the assortment, pre-construction brackets are available for all models, and all in-ceiling models have square grilles and retrofittable back enclosures available separately.

The “HT” version of the XTC8 features a fixed angle mounting of the tweeter and woofer in order to provide a massive improvement in performance for listeners who are farther away. This is the perfect choice for when a speaker must be mounted apart from where the listener will be standing, walking or sitting, like in a home theater. The same holds true in whole house music systems where speakers can be located farther away from where the listener spends most of their time. In situations like this, the angled “HT” models provide a very real, and very noticeable increase in performance. The MartinLogan Motion XT CI series takes performance to the next level over Motion CI. The Folded Motion XT tweeter gives each model in the Motion XT series even more of the clarity, output, and efficiency that the standard size FMT is famous for. With Motion XT, we wanted to increase all aspects of performance over the Motion series, so we didn’t just stop at the tweeter. All Motion XT models feature woven Kevlar woofers for increased rigidity and lightness which translates into better sound. In addition to the larger tweeter, and lighter, stronger woofers, MartinLogan’s design and engineering team has fitted the Motion XT series with a more substantial chassis to strengthen the speaker and provide a more accurate sound, like a better cabinet on a traditional speaker. With Motion XT CI, the difference is in the details. No matter which Motion XT CI speaker you choose for your room, rest assured they are designed to provide a consistently high level of performance and can easily be used with other MartinLogan speakers to make creating the perfect system for your unique listening space that much easier.
